Islam is a religion that upholds the value of justice and equality contains the principles of equality. Men and women alike as creatures of Allah, as caliphs on earth and have the potential to achieve optimal potential. Gender Equality is the main agenda of the feminism movement, since the inclusion of gender discourse in Islamic religion, some Muslim thinkers are influenced by the concept of gender, they assume that Islam that came during the time of the prophet has similarities with the concept of gender brought by feminism, finally many texts the laws and verses that have governed the relationship between men and women are reviewed to suit the perspective of gender equality. The problem is many concepts that are not in line even contrary to the concept of justice in Islam. For this reason, the concept of gender equality in Islamic religious education must be known so that there is no gender bias in education. The right of women to obtain education and achieve the same achievements as men is one of the goals of gender equality in education, but the limits taught in Islamic education also need to be considered.

Abstract From the 20th century to the 21st century, feminist model of interpretation has been developing rapidly. The majority of feminist interpreters, both men and women, criticize the centrality of men in interpreting the Qur'an.They emphasize the argument that the interpreter's gender bias is still dominated by men, most of which have shaped the paradigm of understanding the Qur'an and Islam in general. In contrast to secular feminists, Muslim feminist scholars do not reject Islam itself. Instead, they refer to the Qur'an and the Prophet's Sunnah to support their claim that the Qur'an needs to be reinterpreted. This research specifically tries to study and explore the concept of gender equality in Islam, especially in the perspective of Muhammad Syahrur's hermeneutic thinking. This research analyzes the real relationship between men and women in Islam, whether the views of past scholars are still relevant in positioning the status of men and women. In other words, this research tries to carry out a contemporary reading of the gender equality concept in Islam, which specifically refers to Muhammad Syahrur's hermeneutic. On this basis, this study uses an analysis-hermeneutic approach. Through Syahrur's hermeneutics, the researcher critically analyzes the relationship between men and women in Islam, and carries out a contemporary reading of it. Therefore it  is expected to be able to produce a new thought product about gender in Islam that is more contextual and in accordance with the dynamics of the times. The Spread of the Western feminism movement in parts of the world including Indonesia has had a fairly risky impact on Indonesian society, especially among women. The influence of western feminism is the equalization of positions between men and women in all respects so that not women in Indonesia forget their nature as women both when they become daughters, wives, and mothers so that this often leads to conflict in the family that are contrary to Islamic teachings. This article aims to find the real concept of feminism in Islam. To obtain answers to these problems, the researchers used literature studies namely reviewing various scientific articles related to Western and Islamic feminism as well as reciting verses from the Quran related to equality of men and women. The result obtained from the study stated that the concept of feminism in Islam aims to make women knowledgeable and insightful and not narrow their space of movement. But not just standing alone without needing a partner or a man. Both are creatures of Allah who need each other and were created to perfect each other. In Islam, the nature of men and women is different and there is a nature that can only be done by men or women. Therefore, feminism in Islam only demands equality of rights such as the right to study, the right to work, and the right to a career, not demanding gender equality.

This article analyses the relationship between the representatives and the represented by comparing elite and mass attitudes to gender equality and women’s representation in Britain. In so doing, the authors take up arguments in the recent theoretical literature on representation that question the value of empirical research of Pitkin’s distinction between substantive and descriptive representation. They argue that if men and women have different attitudes at the mass level, which are reproduced amongst political elites, then the numerical under-representation of women may have negative implications for women’s substantive representation. The analysis is conducted on the British Election Study (BES) and the British Representation Study (BRS) series.
