Purpose This study aims first, to provide a typology of complaints concerning the treatment of elderly patients in geriatric wards; second, to estimate reported satisfaction with treatment; and third, to assess the link between verbal concerns and satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach Using the “Survey of Geriatric Wards, 2019” a sample of 4,725 family members of patients, hospitalized in 99 geriatric wards in Israel were asked to rate their overall satisfaction with treatment; they also were asked to provide verbal information on the hospitalization experience through an open-ended question. A content analysis was applied to the verbal answers, to classify them into distinct qualitative categories; a regression analysis was applied to examine the impact of the concerns on the level of patient satisfaction, net of patient’s characteristics. Findings Level of satisfaction among family members is very high (8.16 on a scale from 1–10), with only very few expressing verbal concerns (2.3%). Content analysis reveals five reoccurring themes: physical violence (33.3%), verbal violence (19.2%), discrimination (21.2%), lack of dignified hospitalization conditions (8.1%) and communication (18.2%). Further analysis reveals that satisfaction among those who complained, especially about interpersonal relations, is considerably and significantly lower than others. Originality/value Despite high levels of satisfaction with medical care in geriatric wards, the findings underscore voiced complaints as major source for explaining dis-satisfaction with hospitalization. Complaints in the realm of interpersonal relations, especially regarding verbal violence, discrimination and communication, seem to be most consequential for lowering levels of satisfaction with treatment.

Traditional agenda-setting theory is about the influence of mass media on the public's focus of attention, who and what people are thinking about. The expanded theory of agenda setting tested here during the 1995 regional and municipal elections in Spain elaborates the influence of the mass media on how people think about persons and topics in the news. Combining content analysis and survey data, this study documents the influence of newspapers, TV news, and both TV and newspaper political advertising on Spanish voters' images of political candidates.

This study examined the coverage of consumerism by three Nigerian mainstreams newspapers-The Nation, Daily Trust and Punch between July 2019 to June 2020. The study adopted content analysis as method of study and Agenda Setting theory as framework. Findings revealed a gap in the coverage of consumerism in the selected newspapers. Findings also show that the stories on consumerism were published mainly in the inside pages and on a dedicated column, which limited their prominence. The study concludes that there are gaps not just in newspaper coverage, but also in newspaper content especially as it relates to prominence given to the reportage of consumerism. Therefore, it is recommended that media should give prominence to consumerism stories so that issues bothering on consumerism can be placed on the front burners of public discourse just as the other stories that are accorded prominence. It is also recommended that print media organizations reevaluate their editorial stance and house style so as to give adequate attention to issues faced by consumers in exchange relationships. Finally, it is recommended that gatekeepers should consider creating a consumer beat in their respective print media organization, as it will ensure the reportage of more activities and foster conversations about the need for consumer protection.

The purpose of this article is to attempt to show the importance of interpersonal relations and selected examples of social pathologies in local communities in the context of the determinants of manifestations of juvenile demoralization. A thesis has been put forward about the impact of the local environment on the demoralization of juvenile pathological features, and positively on the disposition of minors as a result of a sense of security through experiencing positive relationships in the immediate environment. It has been verified based on the results of empirical research carried out with a survey method, using the technique of surveying pupils in primary and junior high schools in Białystok and Rzeszów, based on an electronic questionnaire. From an analyses of the survey results, it can be concluded that the pathological behaviours in their local environment experienced by minors motivated them to demoralizing behaviour. The factors that had a significant impact on illegal behaviour by minors were the negative features of the immediate area, such as the occurrence of crime and other punishable acts, including fighting, drugs, violence as well as vacant and dense buildings. Demoralizing behaviour was also stimulated by the possibility of meeting youth gangs in vacant buildings and looking for hiding places in dense buildings. On the other hand, the positive features of the local community, in the opinions of minors, defined as good neighbourly relations, respondent’s recognition, cooperation, trust, life and a willingness to provide assistance did not incline them to criminal acts. Diagnosing the motivation of the young generation to behave both positively and negatively can contribute to the development of prevention and prophylaxis programs intended to improve the level of safety.

In the world of media and communication, the producers of content are major contributors who create issues for an audience to think about. This content is not randomly created, but rather created based on certain agendas. This paper analyzes the content of the Alhijrah channel, a Malaysian Islamic TV. The objective of this study is to discover the prioritized Islamic content broadcast by Alhijrah TV that contributes to shaping the perception of Islam among viewers. To achieve this objective, content analysis, observation and interviews were conducted. The sample of the study was the last broadcasting season of 2020. It was found out that Alhijrah divided its programs into eight genres. The leading genre was a magazine that accounted for 46.56% of the sample, and the leading programs were the programs of the noble Qur'an. Alhijrah resorted to shopping programs that accounted for almost 17% of the Alhijrah content. Alhijrah also broadcast seven live programs that made up 16.71% of its programs. Alhijrah also broadcast limited programs of animation, drama, concert and talk show. This study recommends Islamic television channels and producers of Islamic content to align their agendas with the noble Qur'an to prioritize what Allah SWT prioritized to guide the audience to Allah SWT implementing the methods that He set for us. Keywords: Content, television, Islam, Alhijrah TV, agenda-setting theory.

The media was accorded the status of the fourth estate with the objective of making it autonomous of society players like the government and corporate entities. However, its funding questions the independence of these entities. Using an exploratory mixed method that combines semi-structured interviews with the content analysis of newspapers, this study investigated the impact of media funding on the independence of government and private print media outlets in Ghana, tagging advertising as a revenue-generating source to determine agenda-setting patterns. In Ghana’s media economy, government and corporate entities influence editorial autonomy and favour state-owned papers than private outlets.
