This paper focuses on spatial distribution of immigrants in districts of Czechia. Firstly, a brief description of the distribution is given with respect to the main groups of immigrants according to their citizenship. Then we examine the issue empirically by correlation and regression analyses trying to find out which factors explain the immigrants' distribution. A significant relationship has been found between geographical macro-position of districts and both the absolute numbers and relative shares of foreigners in population. Interestingly, the factor of settlement hierarchy is significant only for the absolute numbers of immigrants. In addition, factors such as aggregate economic level and unemployment rate have not been found significant when controlling for other factors. A question for further research is the relationship that has been indicated between both the characteristics of foreigners' distribution and the level of criminality.

This research considers authoritarian leaders’ communicative practices on Twitter relative to their democratic counterparts. After a quantitative analysis of 144 world leaders’ Twitter accounts, this study identifies a positive and statistically significant relationship between a country’s level of democracy and its leader’s (1) average number of tweets per day and (2) proportion of tweets that are replies to other users. Additionally, qualitative case studies of Russia, Turkey, and Estonia reveal that authoritarian leaders’ accounts are of a relatively lower quality. Namely, they follow a less diverse set of accounts, have a higher proportion of inactive followers, and tend to tweet projections of power over policy statements. Ultimately, these results reveal an authoritarian preference for uni-directional communication and a democratic preference for multi-directional communication—a stylistic difference partially attributable to stronger incentives from political power structures in general and competitive elections in particular in democratic regimes.

Abstract We contribute to the discussion on social exclusion by examining the relationship between material conditions and loneliness in a sample of individuals aged 50+ in the Survey of Health Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). In its 5th wave, the survey was extended to include specific items related to economic and social deprivation. We use this extended information on material conditions and examine how it correlates with the level and dynamics of a composite loneliness measure at the time of wave 5 and between wave 5 and 6 of the survey (undertaken in 2013 and 2015, respectively). In order to isolate the effect of material deprivation on loneliness, regression analyses include an extensive set of control variables. The analyses show a strong and significant relationship between material deprivation and both the level of loneliness and deterioration in the loneliness status.

Abstract The economy of  Bangka Belitung Islands Province is very dependent on two export commodities, namely muntok white pepper and tin. From the data, it can be seen that the two commodities are closely related to the availability of jobs in the Bangka Belitung region. Therefore, this research was conducted to prove the relationship between agricultural and mining employment and its influence on the unemployment rate in Kepulauan Bangka Belitung Province. The research methodology is carried out quantitatively through regression analysis of data on the percentage of agricultural, mining and open unemployment rate (TPT) absorption. The results of the study show that there is a significant relationship between agricultural and mining jobs, but the linkages are also influenced by fluctuations in commodity prices and implementation of tin policies. In addition, the availability of these two jobs has a strong influence on the decline in TPT in Kepulauan Bangka Belitung Province.

This study examines the relationship between trading volume and stock returns in the JSE Securities Exchange in South Africa. The study looked at the price and trading returns of the FTSE/JSE index from July 22, 1988 till June 11, 2012. The study revealed that stock returns are positively related to the contemporary change in trading volume. Further, it was found that past returns were not affected significantly by changes in trading volumes. The results present a significant relationship between trading volume and the absolute value of price changes. Autoregressive tests were used to explore whether return causes volume or volume causes return. The results suggest that volume is influenced by a lagged returns effect for the FTSE/JSE index. Therefore, return seems to contribute some information to investors when they make investment decisions.

Purpose This exploratory study aimed to investigate the potential impact of sentence-level comprehension and sentence-level fluency on passage comprehension of deaf students in elementary school. Method A total of 159 deaf students, 65 students ( M age = 13.46 years) in Grades 3 and 4 and 94 students ( M age = 14.95 years) in Grades 5 and 6, were assessed for nonverbal intelligence, vocabulary knowledge, sentence-level comprehension, sentence-level fluency, and passage comprehension. Group differences were examined using t tests, whereas the predictive and mediating mechanisms were examined using regression modeling. Results The regression analyses showed that the effect of sentence-level comprehension on passage comprehension was not significant, whereas sentence-level fluency was an independent predictor in Grades 3–4. Sentence-level comprehension and fluency contributed significant variance to passage comprehension in Grades 5–6. Sentence-level fluency fully mediated the influence of sentence-level comprehension on passage comprehension in Grades 3–4, playing a partial mediating role in Grades 5–6. Conclusions The relative contributions of sentence-level comprehension and fluency to deaf students' passage comprehension varied, and sentence-level fluency mediated the relationship between sentence-level comprehension and passage comprehension.

Abstract. Prosocial behavior is intended to benefit others rather than oneself and is positively linked to personality traits such as Agreeableness and Honesty-Humility, and usually negatively to the Dark Triad traits (i.e., Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy). However, a significant proportion of the research in this area is conducted solely on self-report measures of prosocial behavior. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between prosociality and the basic (i.e., HEXACO) and dark personality traits, comparing their contribution in predicting both self-reported prosociality and prosocial behavior. Results of the hierarchical regression analyses showed that the Dark Triad traits explain prosociality and prosocial behavior above and beyond the HEXACO traits, emphasizing the importance of the Dark Triad in the personality space.

SummaryThe validity of a previously described technique for predicting warfarin requirements based on the anticoagulant response to a fixed loading dose was assessed prospectively in 57 patients. There was a close relationship between the predicted and initially observed daily warfarin dose required to maintain the patient within the therapeutic range for anticoagulation. The significant relationship between predicted and observed maintenance dose persisted at 4 and 12 weeks although it decreased with increasing time. The relationship between observed and predicted maintenance requirement of warfarin was not affected by the concomitant use of intermittent intravenous injections of heparin when 9 hr was allowed to elapse between the previous dose of heparin and the thrombotest estimation on which the prediction was based. It is concluded that the method is valuable in predicting an individual’s warfarin requirement, although it does not obviate the need for regular monitoring of anticoagulant control.

Whitsleblowing is one of the positive practices in organizations that are able to raise the level of integrity among the members of an organization. However, the roles of whistleblowing also inevitably invites a response, especially among members of the organization itself. This is because such practices are viewed as one factor that may be detrimental to the organization in addition to revealing the reporter (whistleblower) to some external threats and intimidation of discrimination within the organization. This paper is an attempt to examine the relationship between perceptions of members of the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) Contingent of Perak through the role of whistleblowing practices to increase the perception of the integrity of the members. Next, identify the purpose of the whistleblowing and its effect on the integrity of the members of the organization. This study used a descriptive quantitative analysis to identify patterns of relationship that exists between the perception of whistleblowing practices with perceptions of increased integrity based on three basic variables of demographic factors, response to whistleblowing and the impact of making the report. The results showed that members of the Perak’s police have a positive perception of whistleblowing practices which are seen to be done in improving the integrity of the members. Keywords: whistleblowing, perception, RMP members, culture, integrity, organization, influence.
