Introduction. In today's rapidly changing external environment, a stable profitability and a high level of competitiveness of national enterprises' products is only possible if an effective logistics cost management mechanism is formed, which ensures the optimal value of these costs in production conditions. Researched scientific and practical issues of competitiveness, as well as logistics, A.A. Mazaraki, І.М. Semenenko, Р.А. Fatkhutdinov, I.N. Gerchickova, B.А. Anikin, J. Schumpeter, D.J. Bauersox, D.J. Christopher, M.R. Linders, D. Waters, J.B. Haywood, et.al. The purpose of the paper is to reveal the importance of logistics in improving the competitiveness of the enterprise, analysis of its logistics potential, development of recommendations for the use of logistics tools in the practice of the enterprise. Results. This concept forms the basis of an enterprise's economic strategy: the logistics process is used as a tool in the competition. In today's environment, one of the main problems of domestic enterprises is the lack of logistics strategies designed for integrated supply chain management in order to optimise their resources. Unfortunately, there remains a lack of capacity to implement logistics approaches in their operations and to develop a logistics strategy in line with their own logistics potential. The importance of strategic planning in logistics is due to the possibility of developing strategic development programmes for companies, aimed at the optimal organisation of flow processes and increasing their competitiveness. Introduction of logistic approaches into the practice of PJSC “Odeskabel” and development of logistic strategy according to the own logistic potential can significantly reduce expenses of the enterprise and increase its competitiveness. Conclusion. The results of the authors' researches and achievements of the leading scientists have allowed recommending a number of directions of reducing the logistic costs of PJSC “Odeskabel” in order to increase its competitiveness.

The article defines the essence of strategic logistics and logistics strategy, systematizes the characteristics of economic and logistics systems, substantiates the scheme of development of corporate strategy of logistics system, identifies strategies for managing the supply of logistics systems, defines the mechanism of strategic planning in the field of supply. It is established that the strategies of vertical integration in the process of interaction with suppliers are based on the acquisition of suppliers' business in order to enter new markets and develop new areas of activity. Strategies of strategic partnership are to develop strategic forms of interaction with suppliers of goods and services (outsourcing, strategic alliances, alliances, etc.) in order to minimize the overall costs of the logistics system and the highest quality satisfaction of end users. Cost minimization strategies are based on procurement management from the standpoint of minimizing the cost of purchasing goods, ie here the main point when choosing a source of supply is the lowest price with the most complete range of related services. Logistics, in our opinion, in modern society is a means of achieving strategic goals of enterprises through the coordination of flow processes and cross-functional integration. In turn, many scientists divide logistics into two main types: basic and innovative. The most important component of innovation logistics is strategic, which is the science and practice of building the logistics potential of various flow control systems by developing long-term programs of innovative transformations within the outlined paradigm of their strategic development. In the case of implementation of supply strategies, the goals of the logistics strategy will be achieved by solving a set of tasks to strengthen cross-functional and inter-organizational integration and (or) coordination by: introduction of a logistics information system, without which it is impossible to implement strategies of the supply process; cost optimization at all stages of the promotion of flow processes; raising the levels of customer service quality indicators.

In the times of quick and widespread changes, innovations and new ways of city management, new approaches to planning of strategic development of urban entities are expected. Therefore there is a continuing search for possibilities of acquiring new information about the city market and ways to shape it, residents’ participation and involvement, and also creating city openness. Urban centres are not closed entities but they have strong relations with the local, domestic and global markets. There is a search for new directions and priorities in strategic planning of social and economic development, while the established goals follow consultations, workshops and meetings of various groups of urban stakeholders. The consequences of long-term implementation of a city’s image as open is, on the one hand, its recognisability, yet – on the other one – the experience of positive and negative effects of the implementation. The purpose of the study is to identify selected contemporary conditions of strategic planning of a city’s social and economic development, emphasising – in particular – the bases for creating a city’s openness, including the related opportunities and hazards. Another intention is to highlight innovative ways of collecting market information about needs and aspirations of city users, as well as to form the residents’ attitude towards their involvement in the development of their living space. The applied research methods include literature studies, benchmarking and reasoning.

The article is devoted to the topical issue of the strategic development of the enterprise in the digital economy. The advantages of enterprises that use the results of the digital economy in their activities have been established. The main characteristics of the digital economy are determined, approaches to the definition of terms are investigated. The state of profitability of Ukrainian enterprises by industry is analyzed on the basis of statistical data. Based on the results of the analysis of statistical data, it was determined that in the conditions of the pandemic and quarantine of the last two years, most sectors of the economy suffered losses. Only those industries that were vital and those that use modern information and digital technologies had a positive financial result of their activities. These calculations showed that it is fundamentally important to introduce digital technologies at enterprises in various sectors of the economy. The article lists the main seven stages of introducing digital technologies into the management activities of enterprises. The above stages of introducing digital technologies into the activities of enterprises are used both for general strategic transformations at enterprises, and for individual management functions. It also reflects the main benefits of introducing digital technologies into strategic planning and profit management in enterprises. The main obstacles that may arise during the implementation of digital technologies are highlighted, among which the main one is associated with the human factor. It is also indicated in the article that almost all enterprises in their activities can start with the introduction of technologies for working with big data, which allow to efficiently process large volumes of information, analyze it and make management decisions based on the results. An analysis of modern research in the field of digital technologies implementation showed that digital technologies are necessary not only in the current activities of an enterprise, but also in strategic and management functions, especially in planning and managing the company's profit.

Purpose – This paper aims to examine a number of Asian hotel companies to identify the hurdles and provide recommendations for those companies expanding internationally. Many Asian-based hotel companies have made their strategic choice to expand beyond their home territories by opening and managing hotels in non-Asian destinations to achieve growth. This is a strategic decision that other Asian hotel companies will eventually have to face when they follow their customers’ footsteps and/or enhance their brand awareness in non-Asian destinations for greater market penetration and other network advantages. Design/methodology/approach – This is a review article that analyzes Asian hotel groups’ development practices based on content analysis of published references. The 2012 Hotels 325 list, the leading source of news and analysis for the global hotel industry, is used to identify the top Asian hotel management companies in the world. Their history is traced to examine key success factors for their growth and to identify issues and concerns for such companies’ development into non-Asian destinations. Findings – There are a number of approaches that Asian hotel companies have adopted for international expansion based on their match with these companies’ key success factors. Research limitations/implications – The review focuses on the top 53 Asian hotel companies on the Hotels 325 list and does not cover smaller Asian companies that may have had successful global expansion records. Practical implications – The paper provides high-level guidelines for what Asian hotel groups need to do to expand their business internationally outside of Asia or their traditional markets. Non-Asian hotel groups would also learn from this Asian wave of hotel development. Originality/value – There has been limited, if ever any, previous literature on the strategic development choices of Asian hotel management companies. As such, this paper contributes to such an important but largely overlooked area in hotel management.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to show how collaborative information technology (IT) tools and a crowdsourcing model can be leveraged for the purpose of strategic planning. To achieve this objective, a formal method of open strategic planning (OSP) is proposed. Design/methodology/approach Based on a review of the literature a set of activities, stakeholders, and governing rules are identified in the form of an OSP method. The proposed planning method is implemented in a case study of strategic planning in an Australian university. Observations by the research team, and archival records were used to ascertain the relevance of the used method. Findings A method for OSP is presented and assessed. The method contains four phases: pre-planning, idea submission, idea refinement, and plan development. These phases cover the activities required from conceptualization to preparing and publishing the strategic plan. The findings clarify how the principles of OSP helped the organization to include more stakeholders and provided the opportunity to make the planning process transparent through use of a collaborative IT tool. Practical implications The study provides managers and planning consultants with detailed guidelines to implement the concept of open strategy. Originality/value This study is among the few to propose a method for OSP based on empirical research. The study also shows how collaborative IT tools can be used for high-level organizational tasks such as strategic planning.

The need for planning regarding investment in infrastructures is recognised and supported by most governments around the world. Planning helps to take effective and correct decisions, provides a basis for monitoring its impacts and also facilitates further developments. However it requires a high level of organization, coordination among stakeholders and anticipation of transport needs. There are some different methodological approaches for strategic planning. This paper examines the importance of infrastructure planning and how it is undertaken in different countries from Europe and other continents. It is based on a benchmarking about planning procedures of 7 reference countries (UK, France, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Japan and USA), in addition to others whose strategic plans are being developed at the present moment such as Croatia or Romania. This benchmarking aims to extract and compare best practices carried out in this field and to define the optimal formulation of strategic planning. In this regard, the benchmarking is focused on some key aspects: firstly, on the plan structure and its main contents. There are a lot of differences about how each country defines the future needs for transport and how it establishes the objectives and the strategies to be followed. Secondly, on the characterisation of the authorities which are responsible of the plan development (level of dependence from the government, know-how…) along with the time frame and final validity of the plans. And finally, the level of detail of the proposed actions and budgetary commitments provided by the strategic plans. Throughout the comparative analysis, the knowledge generated by this benchmarking has allowed setting a series of specific recommendations in strategic planning which can be applied as innovative solutions and best practices in future planning processes in Spain.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/CIT2016.2016.3459

The article defines the formation conditions of regional development vectors on the basis of approved federal documents and the opinion of regional authorities on the expediency of applying efforts to certain sectors of the economy. The authors indicate the necessity of focusing on the development of the industrial sector of the economy. This is justified, first of all, by the high level of the added value of industrial products. The industrial sector is also pointed out as a factor of intellectualization of the consumer sphere and a driver of economic growth. At the same time, staff potential is highlighted as one of the most important resource components. The results of the study indicate the participants in the formation of labor resources and the problems of their interaction, the shortcomings of staffing support at modern industrial enterprises. The article contains the mechanisms that are necessary for managing the processes of staff potential development, including the ones that take into account the prospective needs in the conditions of industrial transformations and the young people’s understanding of their purpose in economic activity. The emphasis is placed on the complexity and consistency of the actions taken. At the same time, the authors provide a list of the most significant professional skills and promising professions for both large manufacturers and small and medium-sized businesses.

The strategic development of retail is taking place in a fiercely competitive environment. In the context of the coronavirus pandemic and the weakening of the ruble, the development of the strategy has become particularly important for retailers. The apparel market has a number of specific features that significantly affect the formation of the development strategy. One of the most important directions in achieving competitive stability is to optimize logistics costs through the development of the distribution network. The article presents the results of a study of the competitive position of the apparel brand "MOHITO". The study proved the logistics strategy of the retailer in Siberia and the Far East as well-founded. This strategy is based on the organization of a distribution centre in Irkutsk which leads to reorganization of the supply chain of the LPP holding including the retailer "MOHITO". We also provided supporting rationale of the capacity of the potential market of the retailer in Siberia and the Far East in the case of the opening of a reference distribution centre in Irkutsk.
