Working capital is an important element for any company because without sufficient working capital, operational activities of a company can not be held. Along with the rapid growing of business recently, as well as the intensive increasing competition, obtaining an adequate working capital has become a major factor to be considered. The amount of working capital required by each company is not the same and can not be determined by any standard. Lack of working capital will continually hamper business activities and thus companies productivity will not run well, otherwise the excess of working capital will lead to unproductive funds which will cause in a loosing gain or profits. This study used an object of PT.Timah (Persero) Tbk. for year of 2009-2012 observed data. It was using analyzing technique of raising and using of working capital. It showed that in the year 2009-2010 the use of the net working capital had excess of Rp 769 323, In the year 2010-2011 had excess of Rp. 323.320. Otherwise, in 2001-2012 the company's net working capital showed deficit of Rp.192.870. From the results of this analysis, it can be concluded that the net working capital of the company was not effectively managed in the year of 2009 to 2012. The decreasing in net working capital was due to the inceasing of non-current assets purchased by long-term debt and owner’s equity. Decreasing in net working capital will lead to a shortage in the company's operating expenditure. We recommend that the company must protect against the crisis of working capital and it must pay all obligations in a timely manner in order to increase the net working capital. The company should avoid experiencing a shortage of working capital since the availability of working capital is a vital instrumental to assist any companies in financing all daily operational activities. In addition the company's goals can be achieved and good progress can be maintained by keeping an adequate and proper level of working capital. Keywords: Working Capital, Financial Performance

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, to explore to what extent being located in a territory is value-relevant for a company. Second, to understand if a company is aware of, and how it can sustain, the territorial tangible and intangible assets present in the economic area in which it is located. Design/methodology/approach – The study presents an empirical multiple case-study, investigating ten mid-/large-sized Italian companies in manufacturing sectors. Findings – The results indicate that the sampled manufacturing companies are intertwined with the environment in which they are embedded, both in their home country and in host ones. The domestic territorial capital has provided, and still provides, enterprises with workers endowed with the necessary technical skills that they can have great difficulty in finding in other places. In turn, companies support territorial capital generation through their activities. Research limitations/implications – To increase the generalisability of the results, future research should expand the sample and examine firms based in different countries and sectors. Practical implications – Implications for policy makers: developing effective initiatives to support and guide a sustainable territorial capital growth. Implications for managers and investors: improving managerial and investors’ decisions by disclosing a complete picture of the enterprise, also outside the firm boundaries. Originality/value – The study contributes to intangibles/intellectual capital literature by shedding light on the importance of including territorial capital in a company’s report to improve the definition of the firm’s value. Accounting of the territorial capital would increase the awareness of the socio-economic environment value in which companies are located and its use.

Turbulent conditions on the Serbian market, the deep consequences of the global economic crisis that have shaken the already weakened economy are strong reasons for constant monitoring of business in Serbia. Identifying financial problems in a company that lead to bankruptcy reduces the risk of potential losses. The aim of the paper is to compare the Altman model and the Zmijewski model that are applied in companies in Serbia and by that to conclude which one gives better results for predicting bankruptcy. Also, the paper will examine the significance of individual ratios in models using correlation analysis. The results of the survey showed that the accuracy of predicting the bankruptcy of the Altman model for emerging markets on Serbian companies undergoing bankruptcy proceedings, is high, 88.68% for one and 79.25% for two years before the initiation of bankruptcy proceedings. The accuracy of the Zmijewski model is slightly higher than the Altman model for one year before the initiation of bankruptcy proceedings and amounts to 90.57%. Two years before bankruptcy, the Zmijewski model's accuracy is the same as with the Altman model (79.25%). When it comes to the overall sample (undergoing bankruptcy proceedings companies and non-bankruptcy companies), the average accuracy of the Zmijewski model is higher than the Altman model (89.62% > 85.22%). Based on Pearson's correlation coefficient, we have established that one year before initiating bankruptcy, there is almost an impeccably perfect positive relationship between the ratio of working capital and total assets on one side, and Z’’- score on the other. The Zmijewski coefficient has an almost perfect negative relationship with the indebtedness ratio. By observing both models, it can be concluded that companies in Serbia had a problem with liquidity, indebtedness and the impossibility of returning the invested funds, which contributed to the poor financial situation and initiation of bankruptcy proceedings.
