OBJECTIVE: To examine sectoral differences in the professional activities and self-images of Israeli pharmacists. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Pharmacists from private, community, and hospital sectors (n=145) completed a survey that assessed the rewards accrued from their professional activities as pharmacists and evaluated their professional and sectoral self-image. RESULTS: Few intersectoral differences were found among Israeli pharmacists. Most agreed that the main rewards in the public sector are secure employment, intellectual challenge, and responsibility. In the private sector, the rewards are high income, responsibility, and opportunity to counsel. The majority of pharmacists in all sectors are satisfied with their profession, and 90.7 percent would choose it again. Nevertheless, they ranked pharmacy eighth among nine professions chosen for comparison, which shows quite a low professional image. The private and hospital pharmacists attributed a higher social status to their own sectors than to the community sector. CONCLUSIONS: The inferior professional self-image held by pharmacists, despite the rewards of the profession, should be examined in greater detail.

BackgroundThe goal of veterinary education is to prepare learners to successfully enter the profession. However, the transition from learner to professional can be an intense and stressful phase. In this study, recently graduated veterinarians’ perceptions of readiness to work independently and to successfully cope with early career challenges are addressed.MethodsA survey based on five commonly occurring entrustable professional activities (EPAs) in primary care was sent to newly qualified veterinarians (graduated between six months and three-and-a-half years ago and working in primary veterinary clinics). The survey was a combination of open and Likert scale-type questions and contained items on the self-reported need for supervision for these EPAs. One hundred and fifty-six participants (response rate 41.2 per cent) answered the survey. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse and present the quantitative data.ResultsThe day-one after graduation levels varied per EPA between ‘with direct, proactive supervision’ and ‘supervision at a distance’. On average after 6.8 months participants felt ready to execute all five tasks with distant supervision. After almost 10 months, participants had the feeling of being fully competent to execute the EPAs unsupervised.ConclusionThis study provides insight into early career challenges faced by recently graduated veterinarians. The results emphasise the importance of adequate preparation of veterinarians during education and the importance of guidance during early career to foster a successful transition from veterinary school to clinical practice.

Professional training of orchestra conductors is traditionally aimed at performing primarily educational and creative tasks. At the same time, the inner world of a conductor as a leader of the ensemble still needs deeper study. In particular, formation of the conductor’s professional competence will not be effective without necessary personal qualities, self-awareness, self-concept, which involves a total reflection of his activities. The phenomenon of the orchestra conductor’s self-concept is presented not only as a set of ideas and attitudes towards oneself, which has certain characteristics, but also as a subject, which is entrusted with cultural and aesthetic professional responsibilities. The study of the self-concept will facilitate understanding the regulation and management of the internal process in the professional activities of the orchestra conductor. The study relevant because it can reorient the purpose of the educational process from the formation of knowledge, skills and abilities to a broad understanding of the multifunctionality of future conducting and orchestral activities.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing patient privacy protection behavior among nursing students and examine the relationships between these factors. Methods: Participants in this study were 144 nursing students who have experienced clinical practice. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression with IBM SPSS Win 23.0 program. Results: Professional self-concept and ethical values were factors influencing patient privacy protection behavior among nursing students. These variables explained 21.9% of the variance for patient privacy protection behavior. A higher level of patient privacy protection behavior was associated with higher levels of professional self-concept and ethical values. Conclusion: The findings demonstrate that strategies for enhancing patient privacy protection behaviors of nursing students should include methods for forming images of positive nurses and firming ethical values.

Summary: My comment is basically restricted to the situation in which less-able students find themselves and refers only to literature in German. From this point of view I am basically able to confirm Marsh's results. It must, however, be said that with less-able pupils the opposite effect can be found: Levels of self-esteem in these pupils are raised, at least temporarily, by separate instruction, academic performance however drops; combined instruction, on the other hand, leads to improved academic performance, while levels of self-esteem drop. Apparently, the positive self-image of less-able pupils who receive separate instruction does not bring about the potential enhancement of academic performance one might expect from high-ability pupils receiving separate instruction. To resolve the dilemma, it is proposed that individual progress in learning be accentuated, and that comparisons with others be dispensed with. This fosters a self-image that can in equal measure be realistic and optimistic.

The purpose of this study were to determine: 1) the influence of the learning
model of creative thinking; 2) the influence of self-concept to think creatively, and 3) the influence of the interaction and the concept of self-learning model for creative thinking. The research method used was experimental method. A sample of 80 people selected at random from the 13 study groups. The data was collected by administering a written test questions to measure variables studied. Data analysis using descriptive statistics and 2-way ANOVA. The results showed: 1) a significant difference to the learning model with the ability to think creatively sig = 0.000; 2) there is a significant effect of self-concept of
the ability to think creatively with sig = 0.000, and 3) there is a significant interaction effect of learning model and self-concept of the ability to think creatively with sig = 0.018.
