Review question / Objective: The purpose of this systematic review is to accurately evaluate the efficacy of kinesio tape for ankle sprains. Condition being studied: Ankle sprain may cause a series of problems, such as pain, swelling, and various dysfunctions. As a physical therapy method that has attracted much attention in recent years, kinesio tape has been proven to relieve pain, reduce swelling and promote functional recovery for some diseases. In this way, we can provide a reference for clinical physical therapy. Information sources: PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, CNKI, Wanfang Data, Technological periodical database, SinoMed.

Review question / Objective: What is the relationship between delirium and frailty in hospitalized elderly people? The objective of this research is to analyze the association between frailty and delirium in hospitalized elderly people, through a systematic literature review. Condition being studied: Frailty and delirium in hospitalized aged. Information sources: A specific search strategy for the language of each database was developed using, initially, the Medical Subject Headings (MEsH) descriptor and later translated to specific descriptors (Descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS) and Embase Subject Headings (Emtree)). The search strategy will be applied by the researchers in the MEDLINE databases through the Pubmed Portal; Scielo; VHL; EMBASE, CINAHL, Scopus and Web of Science through the CAPES Journal Portal; CENTRAL via Cochrane.

Review question / Objective: The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to examine the prevalence of engaging in sex under the influence of drugs among young adults. Condition being studied: The prevalence of sex under the influence of drugs in young adults. Information sources: Published and unpublished literature will be systematically searched via three electronic databases: ISI Web of Science (WoS Core Collection); Scopus; and Psychological Information (PsycInfo). A grey literature search will also be performed via the Google and Google Scholar search engines, in order to obtain other potential relevant studies. Reference lists of relevant published studies will also be examined to obtain additional eligible reports. Additionally, emails will be sent to the research groups that have published the most about SDU, with the aim of identifying unpublished studies.

Objectives: Sample size may limit the ability of individual studies to detect differences in clinical outcomes between extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) alone and ECMO plus intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) after adult cardiac surgery. Therefore, we undertook a meta-analysis of the best evidence available on the comparison of clinical outcomes of ECMO alone and ECMO plus IABP after adult cardiac surgery. Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Center Registry of Controlled Trials were searched for studies comparing the use of ECMO alone and ECMO plus IABP after adult cardiac surgery. A meta-analysis and a sensitivity analysis were conducted. Results: Among the 472 screened articles, 24 studies (1302 cases of ECMO plus IABP and 1603 cases of ECMO) were included. A significant relationship between patient risk profile and benefits from IABP plus ECMO was found in terms of the 30-day mortality (odds ratio [OR] 0.75; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.62 to 0.91; P = .004) with postcardiotomy shock (PCS). However, ECMO alone was associated with lower in-hospital mortality (OR 1.75; 95% CI 1.06 to 3.01; Z = 2.19; P = .03) compared with ECMO plus IABP without PCS. Conclusions: Pooled data show that patients receiving IABP plus ECMO with PCS have lower 30-day mortality than those receiving ECMO also, which in turn show higher 30-day mortality in patients with IABP plus ECMO without PCS. Further randomized studies are warranted to corroborate these observational data.

Background: Cardiac arrhythmia cannot be overlooked in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as it carries a great influence on the outcomes. Hence, this study aimed to build concrete evidence regarding the incidence of cardiac arrhythmia in patients with COVID-19. Methods: We performed a systematic search for trusted databases/search engines including PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane library and web of science. After screening, the relevant data were extracted and the incidences from the different included studies were pooled for meta-analysis. Results: Nine studies were finally included in our study consisting of 1445 patients. The results of meta-analysis showed that the incidence of arrhythmia in patients with COVID-19 was 19.7% with 95% confidence interval (CI) ranging from 11.7 to 27.6%. There was also a significant heterogeneity (I2 = 94.67%). Conclusion: Cardiac arrhythmias were highly frequent in patients with COVID-19 and observed in 19.7% of them. Appropriate monitoring by electrocardiogram with accurate and early identification of arrhythmias is important for better management and outcomes.

It is important to consider the nutritional status of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) since it is a key element in the ability to overcome and survive critical illnesses and clinical outcomes. The aim of the present study was to provide a meta-analysis and systematic overview in determining the nutritional status of patients in ICU by examining other studies. All studies published during 2015-2019 on nutritional status in ICU were retrieved from Medline (via PubMed), Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. Finally, 23 articles were included in the meta-analysis. Results obtained from these studies showed that the nutritional status of patients in ICU was inappropriate (the pooled proportion of malnutrition was 0.51 in the type of study stratified), in which many patients in this unit had different degrees of malnutrition (moderate-mild malnourished and severe malnutrition is 0.46 and 20%, respectively). According to the results of this study, the nutritional status of patients in ICU was unsatisfactory; hence, it is necessary to consider the nutritional status along with other therapeutic measures at the beginning of the patient’s admission.[GMJ.2020;9:e1678]

Abstract Purpose: This study investigated the effect of early higher achieved mean arterial pressure (MAP) on clinical outcomes after cardiac arrest (CA).Methods: PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang databases were searched for relevant articles until May 2020. The meta-analysis produced pooled effect size represented by odds ratios (ORs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs).Results: Nine studies that enrolled 1337 participants were considered eligible for this meta-analysis. Early higher achieved MAP was associated with similar mortality (OR 0.54, 95% CI 0.26 – 1.12; p = 0.10), neurologic outcome (OR 1.30, 95% CI 0.65 – 2.58; p = 0.46), length of ICU stay (OR -0.06, 95% CI -0.31 – 0.19; p = 0.46), mechanical ventilation time (OR -0.14, 95% CI -0.90 – 0.62; p = 0.72), and bleeding (OR 0.57, 95% CI 0.23 – 1.40; p = 0.22) compared with low MAP. Sensitivity analysis demonstrated that the result was solid. No publication bias across the studies was observed using Begg's and Egger’ funnel plot plot. Conclusion: Based on current evidence, this meta-analysis confirmed that early higher achieved MAP does not improve the clinical outcomes after CA.REGISTRATION: (PROSPERO: CRD42020189875)
