ABSTRACT This article aims to discover and probe deeper into the acculturation process of local culture with the practices and traditions of the maulid of the Prophet Muhammad in the Gorontalo community. This study uses a phenomenological qualitative approach. Data collection methods applied are in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study found that the presence and expansion of Islam in Gorontalo also influenced the religious perspective held by the people of Gorontalo. The willingness of the local community to adapt to the new teachings of Islam that they believe is a reinforcement of the acculturation of local cultural practices with the implementation of the tradition of the maulid of the Prophet Muhammad. The early Islamic preachers in Gorontalo managed to distinguish between the part of the local culture that still worth preserved and the part that must be preserved. This combination and acculturation effort between Islam and local culture is able to engender a new version and level of culture that is unique and has a local character. The innovative ability of the preachers to communicate Islamic rituals to the local culture of the Gorontalo people, can lead to a critical appreciation of the local values of the community's culture and the characteristics that accompany these values. Island of Combú: the local community according to the conceptual perspectives of leisure ABSTRACT This paper has as objective approach the experience of Combú of the island community, place that belongs to Belém of the state of Pará, and due to the closeness to the capital while urban city has stronger relation with the visitation of eventual tourists whom haz the intection of approaching of green areas. Seeing that this flow produces na urbanizing impact in the area, the search proposed to approach the relation of the community with this new utility found in their place of everyday. Starting of the conceptual issue of leisure, it was made na analysis of yhe cultural and anthropological diversity that composes the families that reside in the island. And their relation with tourism. For such, it was made field visitis and open interview on the particular enterprise of Ms. Nena (Filha do Combú), and participant observation at the Santo Antônio de Piriquitatara festivity, one of the festivities that were occurring at the moment, seeking to pay attention to the frequencie and charactheristics on the recurrents tourists on site, as far as the perception of the local communnity to this touristic flow. The work endend trying to make na overview between the diferente theories of the authors to the island rating, both in relation to the use, as approaching the island as an equipment, and also in relation to the ends and motivations of tourists, always taking into account the percpetion of the local communnity. AbstractThis essay discusses how artists, architects, and local community people have collaborated together to regenerate an everyday life aesthetics that embodies and reflects the environmental specificity of local culture, history, and geography in the context of Taiwan, where systematic urbanisation has had a very negative impact in many different areas since the early 2000s. The essay explores the possibility of local aesthetics retrieving the feelings of the Taiwanese “vernacular worlds” against the effects of globalisation, urbanisation and rapid socio-political changes. Two social practice art projects are considered accordingly: Plum Tree Creek and Togo Village.

The purpose of the paper is to evaluate the quality and hydrological utility of four popular satellite precipitation products, including the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Multi-satellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA) product (3B42V7), near real-time product (3B42RT), and the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) MORPHing technique (CMORPH) satellite–gauge merged product (CMORPH BLD) and bias-corrected product (CMORPH CRT) over Fujiang River basin, China. First, we provided a statistical assessment of the four precipitation products at multiple spatiotemporal scales. The results show that: (1) all the products except 3B42RT capture the spatial pattern of annual precipitation fairly well; (2) in general, CMORPH BLD benefits from the application of the probability density function-optimal interpolation (PDF-OI) gauge adjustment algorithm and performs best among all the products with Pearson correlation coefficients (CC) of 0.84 and 0.94, equitable threat score (ETS) of 0.56 and 0.63 in grid and basin scales, respectively, followed by 3B42V7 and CMORPH CRT; whereas 3B42RT performs worst across all the metrics; (3) according to the occurrence frequencies of rainfall, satellite estimates mainly fall into the bin of 0–1 mm/day and tend to underestimate light precipitation. In addition, the performance of all the products in warm season is much better than in cold season in both grid and basin scales. Subsequently, a physically based distributed model is established to further evaluate the hydrological utility of different precipitation products. The results reveal that: (1) the errors in precipitation products mainly propagate into hydrological simulations, resulting in the best hydrological performance in CMORPH BLD in both daily and monthly scales after recalibrating the model, while 3B42RT shows limited skills in reproducing the daily observed hydrograph; (2) after recalibrating the model with the respective satellite data, significant improvements are observed for all the products; (3) CMORPH BLD no longer shows its superiority during near-real-time monitoring of floods. There is still a great challenge for the application of current satellite-based estimates into local flood monitoring. This study could be used as guidance for choosing alternative satellite precipitation products for hydrological applications in a local community, particularly in basins in which rainfall gauges are scarce.

This chapter looks at museums in the “ecomuseum” mode that serve to forge a “sense of place” for local communities. The Lanyang Museum (蘭陽博物館‎), opened in 2010, is a natural history museum focused on the “mountains, plains, and ocean” of Yilan county where it is located. The linchpin in a network of museums in the county, it both offers Yilan people cultural outlets and forms of cultural identification and stimulates tourism and economic development. Gold Museum Park (黃金博物園區‎), or Gold Ecological Park, struggled initially to live up to the ecomuseum ideal, but it eventually developed a close working relationship with the local community of Jinguashi, where it is located. The idea of the ecomuseum goes well beyond matters of local identity; it also sits well with a particular image of Taiwan and Taiwan national identity. With community-oriented ecomuseums dotting the national map, Taiwan becomes a nation of identifiable communities that are simultaneously unique and part of a diverse whole.

Continuous INSAR-monitoring of slow mass movements in the surrounding of fast (m/year) or acute processes can deliver important data complementing geomorphologic information in order to understand the broader dynamic context in which a landslide is situated. In course of the Landslide-EVO project (NERC/SHEAR funded), focusing on flood and landside risk assessment and mitigation in the Karnali river basin region in Far Western Nepal by inclusion of local community, this has been evaluated within a test of integrated monitoring methods (comprising eg. ERT, UAV-photogrammetry, D-GPS/geodesy, microseismics, soil water saturation, rainfall, and other) on regional as well as local scale at two selected sites at Bajura and Sunkoda. It was possible to derive extended information about movements in a ROI covering 120 km by 120 km. The PSI/SBAS based velocity analysis exhibits density variations due to specific slope/sensor system geometry, vegetation, data gaps, atmospheric conditions, and high velocities in the most active sites, which causes decorrelation. However, in the less active surrounding of active landslides the velocity information shows generally higher density. INSAR techniques could well complement optical image analysis in the low velocity range of centimetres to several decimetres per year, generally too slow for optical satellite image analysis in this time scale. InSAR-data has the potential to be used for estimating a slow moving masses acceleration or a deep-seated gravitational slope deformations cumulative displacement leading to a partial or total reactivation before other indication appears. It has been shown that large and difficult accessible areas can be monitored with InSAR techniques, while specific sites are equipped with corner reflectors for better signal. The study represents the first of this kind in the region and proves the ability of INSAR techniques for retrieving critical information about mass movements affecting local communities in the Karnali river basin as an example of a developing region.
