Purpose – the purpose of the article is to identify the criteria influencing on the reputational performance of a financial organisation and recognise the impact of reputation on the activities of a financial institution. Research methodology – to estimate the reputational impact on a financial organisation an interview with experts was conducted. In order to process the received data SAW, COPRAS and geometric mean methods were used. The mentioned methods were applied for performance measurement to ensure the inclusion of the reputation-sensitive data. Findings – the weakest position of the financial company in terms of reputational condition implies decreased efficiency of its performance. The degree of reputation and the impact of repercussions on the organisation’s performance can be further measured through financial analysis. Research limitations – the financial organisation analysed in the current study does not provide services for local clients, hence there is no possibility to obtain primary data from direct interactors. Practical implications – the research results provide insight towards key areas to look on while conducting root-cause analysis for decrease of financial performance; reputational impact measurement model can be used for further planning processes related to the future repercussions prevention. Originality/Value – literature overview results prove that it is still argued over the way reputational impact could be measured due to the fact that organizational reputation is attributed to a long-term intangible asset which is sensitive towards the subjectivity of the analysed matter. While it is usual to measure the reputation from the clients’ perspective, the research on reputation impact relies on the particular statistical data on company’s condition in the market.

Following the growing concerns on the inconsistent findings in previous research and drawing on the social exchange and networking theories, this study re-examined the impact of supply chain integration (SCI) on business performance (i.e. value creation and financial performance). The study argues that the impact of SCI on financial performance is through value creation and is depended upon longevity of product life cycle. Using primary data from 79 firms in Ghana, the study finds that value creation is a short-run consequence of SCI while financial performance is a long-run outcome of SCI. Additionally, results show that the financial performance outcome of SCI is experienced more from integrative efforts than from the value creation outcome. Results further indicate that firms whose products stay relatively shorter on the market are more likely to experience lower positive impact of SCI on value creation, and thus firms’ ability to become proactive, monitor, and collect market information on product performance throughout its life cycle is key for coming out with strategies that will enable them maximize product’s life span so as to experience greater benefits that come with pursuing integration with other channel members.

Purpose – The aim of this case study is to characterize the impact of the 2008 global financial crisis on the financial performance of public listed construction companies. Design/methodology/approach – Financial analysis was conducted on 32 public listed construction companies in Malaysia. Twelve financial ratios were examined to determine the profitability, liquidity, activity, leverage and solvency of these companies over the period between 2005 and 2010. This was complemented by a distress analysis using Altman’s Z-index. The study also used a content analysis of the Chairman’s or Managing Director’s statement to shareholders to uncover the responses and strategic initiatives undertaken by the management in response to the financial crisis. Findings – The only direct impact of the financial crisis was a reduction in profitability. Total revenues and total assets of these companies continue to grow due to increased demand for construction from year 2007 following two large capital investment programs initiated by the Malaysian Government to mitigate the potential effects of the financial crisis. Net profits rebounded back to 5 per cent by year 2010. These companies immediately responded to the crisis with more prudent financial management; curtailing expenses, cutting dividends, reducing bank borrowings, increasing equity; and to the extent of disposing of assets to mitigate losses. Research limitations/implications – The sample of only 32 public listed companies out of a total of more than 60,000 construction companies may be considered small, but these 32 companies represent nearly 20 per cent of the total construction volume for 2010. Practical implications – The study documents the effects of increased capital spending by the government to mitigate the loss of investor confidence followed by a slowdown in economic growth during a period of global financial distress. Key findings will inform on prudent financial management to withstand future financial crises. Originality/value – The responses and strategies adopted by the management to mitigate the effects and to enhance future performance of these companies have been uncovered. These are important considerations in managing construction companies; the analysis and observations will be invaluable to researchers intending to study how the construction industry responds to a future slump in demand.

The current study launched from the main objective of examining the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and its role in supporting and improving the efficiency of AIS on one hand, and non-financial performance standards on the other. In order to achieve this goal and indicate the extent of its conformity with reality; quantitative approach was used and a questionnaire were adopted as a study tool, the questionnaire was distributed electronically to a sample of (409) managers, heads of departments and accountants in industrial establishments operating in Jordan during the fiscal year 2020/2021. By analyzing the primary data based on SPSS, the study came to the conclusion that AI techniques played a significant role in enhancing efficiency of AIS outcomes through focusing on outcomes' understandability, reliability, credibility and comparability, on another level, AI techniques also proved its ability to influence non-financial performance through focusing on feeding organization with the needed information that locates weak points and develop them, and strength points to exploit them. Study recommended the need to link the operations of intelligent systems to the goals of the organization as a whole and ensure the complete interdependence between the AIS systems and the accounting information in the systems.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between the acquisition of an ISO 9000 certification and the overall financial performance of the certified firms. More specifically, the study proposes a multidimensional conceptual framework, including “customers’ demand”, “ISO adoption”, “operation efficiency”, “market efficiency” and “overall financial performance”. Such a multidimensional approach has randomly been explored in the existing literature, making the examination of the proposed conceptual framework an interesting research topic. Design/methodology/approach – The proposed conceptual framework was tested on a sample of Greek ISO 9000-certified companies of various economic sectors. Quality managers were used as key respondents. The final sample consisted of 168 companies. The reliability and the validity of the questionnaire were thoroughly examined. Empirical data were analyzed using the structural equation modelling technique. The findings are based on the 2000 version of the ISO series, which is generally accepted and has widespread use, as it has eliminated most of the disadvantages of the 1994 version. The present study is empirical (it is based on primary data), explanatory (examines cause and effect relationships), deductive (tests research hypotheses) and quantitative (includes the analysis of quantitative data collected with the use of a structured questionnaire). Findings – The findings of the study provide strong evidence that ISO 9000 implementation is highly associated with improvements in overall financial performance. Moreover, it was found that ISO implementation is directly associated with significant improvements in quality awareness, operations execution, market share, customer satisfaction and sales revenue. Finally, customers’ demand was not found to be the most important motivation for implementing an ISO certification. Rather, it seems that companies seek for quality improvement due to internal motives. Research limitations/implications – A limitation stemming from the implemented methodology is the use of self-report scales to measure the constructs of the proposed model. Moreover, the present paper lacks a longitudinal approach, since it is cross-sectional and provides a static picture of ISO implementation. Practical implications – The paper makes an analytical effort in order to point out areas that companies should emphasize in order to successfully implement ISO 9000 and, therefore, harvest its potential benefits. Certain practical implications are offered in the final part of the paper. Originality/value – The paper proposes an enhanced conceptual framework that examines vital issues concerning the successful implementation of ISO 9000, thus, providing valuable outcomes for decision makers and academics. Moreover, the results of the study may be generalized in other developed countries whose economy faces similar significant challenges as Greece.
