This chapter explores the impact of international remittances on household welfare and women empowerment in Bangladesh. In doing so, primary data and several methods are used. Firstly, this chapter constructs a household welfare index and women empowerment index to measure the level of household welfare and women empowerment, respectively. Secondly, this chapter uses a one-way ANOVA test to analyze respondents' socio-economic features. Finally, linear regression is applied to examine the impact of international remittances on household welfare. This study finds that international remittances have an influence on household welfare improvement but no influence on women empowerment in the study area. This chapter also finds that if a household receives international remittances, the level of household welfare may be increased by Tk. 3167.49. Therefore, this chapter calls for the policies for larger inflows of remittances and its proper utilization in productive purposes.

Zakat is the third pillar of Islam that must be fulfilled by every Muslim who has a sufficient amount of zakat. The purpose of zakat management is to increase the benefits of zakat in creating social welfare and poverty alleviation. This study aims to measure the impact of zakat on the welfare of mustahiq using the Center of Islamic Business and Economic Studies (CIBEST) model. The research sample consisted of mustahiq households who received zakat funds from the Baitul Maal Hidayatullah Amil Zakat Institute (LAZ BMH). Measuring the impact of zakat using the CIBEST model includes both material and spiritual aspects. The primary data were collected using a questionnaire. The results of the study found that the mustahiq household welfare index value increased by 11.5 per cent. In terms of material, productive zakat succeeded in reducing material poverty by 11.5 per cent. However, the zakat assistance provided does not have a significant effect on poverty alleviation. In the spiritual aspect, productive zakat can maintain mustahiq's spiritual stability. Therefore, as a form of accountability, both vertically and horizontally, to Allah SWT, the impact of zakat must be increased from both material and spiritual aspects.

This paper mainly focuses on the construction of a household welfare index to examine the welfare impact of international remittances in rural Bangladesh. This paper, in achieving this objective, uses primary data and several methods. This paper constructs a household welfare index newly to measure the level of household welfare. Besides, a linear regression and Chi-square test is used to examine the welfare and poverty impact of international remittances, respectively. Remittance receiving households enjoy the higher level of welfare more than non-recipient households in the study area. Household welfare is augmented by 0.116 if the household is under the shade of international remittances. A significant impact of international remittances on the reduction of household poverty is also found in this study. Therefore, this paper suggests policymakers for utilizing international remittances as a significant tool to enhance household welfare and to reduce household poverty.

Purpose of the study: This study intends to examine the impact of various dimensions of women empowerment on multiple constituents of household poverty in the three cities (Lahore, Multan and, Rawalpindi) of province Punjab, Pakistan. Methodology: The primary data was gathered from a sample of 2400 married and employed females belonging to the three cities of Punjab, Pakistan. For analysis, the study develops its own all-embracing Women Empowerment and Household Poverty variables using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and examines the relationship between the empowerment of women and household poverty using structural equation modeling (SEM). Main Findings: The results show that women empowerment positively and significantly contributes towards household poverty reduction. Applications of this study: Since poverty is one of the greatest challenges that Pakistan is facing today, the need to change poor standards of living and inspiring women to contribute effectively to society through their active participation in the development process is the dire need of time. The results of the study suggest that in addition to targeting poverty directly, policies should be devised that eradicate poverty through the empowerment of women. Novelty/Originality of this study: The majority of the past studies have limited generalizability because they use already available surveys/published data, having limited dimensions/indicators of women empowerment and household poverty. Moreover, the past studies that have examined the phenomenon of women empowerment ignore its psychological dimensions. Therefore, because of minimal comprehensive investigation, the examination of the effect of the empowerment of women on household poverty remains a topic of interest for the researchers.

The objective of this study was to examine the effect of the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) on household welfare in Cameroon. This was done using data from a survey of 264 households in Cameroon in 2020. A linear regression model and Heckman sample correction bias were used and the results showed that COVID-19 reduces household welfare in Cameroon. These findings have implications of reducing the impact of COVID-19 on household welfare if households should develop new sources of income and food strategies by engaging more on agricultural activities and government can take a strategy of allocating grants either by reducing the cost of necessities (water, electricity, foodstuff, and housing). The triple helix approach where government, institutions of technology, and businesses should develop a vaccine for the pandemic to bring back economic life to normal.

This article mainly explores to what extent international remittances alleviate household poverty in Bangladesh. This study uses primary data collected from 216 households and employs multi-methods. Firstly, I measure the level of household poverty through Foster-Greer-Thorbecke index. The article secondly focuses on the impact of remittances on household poverty using a binary logistic regression model. I found that the level of poverty among remittance recipient households is notably lower than households that are not receiving remittances. Similarly, the probability of a household being poor is alleviated by 28.07 per cent if the household receives remittance. It can be suggested that nursing international remittances can be useful for poverty alleviation in Bangladesh.

The basic objective of this study is to explain the impact of MGNREGA on women empowerment in the study area. The present study is based on primary data collected from 200 women of Santipur block in Nadia district, West Bengal during 2017-18. For measuring women empowerment, a Cumulative Empowerment Index (CEI) has been constructed. Three-point scale has been used to calculate of each indicator. In this study, possible score value of CEI is varied from 0–16where 0 indicates the lowest level of economic empowerment and 16indicatesthe highest level of economic empowerment. The analysis of the study shows that the level of women empowerment in the study area was not satisfactory because the majority (95.2%) of the studied women belonged to low to medium level of economic empowerment and only 5% of them belonged to a high empowerment level. Thus, it can be concluded that MGNREGA has affected women empowerment but it is not as high as expect from the scheme.
