Business Literacy Education in the Digital Age

The digital world currently presents many learning tools and knowledge sources about business literacy. Considering today's learners, digital improvements suggest time-saving learning tools and processes for individual or mass learning activities. Since the industrial age and through the knowledge age, we still use and improve network elements in the digital age. Computers, tablets, televisions, cell phones are instantly becoming the distributors of knowledge in or out of spaces. However, learners in the digital age by the freedom of internet connection points may easily reach to videos, podcasts, or especially, to games that are based on individual learning activities. In respect to the aim of this chapter, an overview is targeted about the understanding of business literacy in the digital age, and it also mentions financial literacy as a supporting literature review. The research finally proposes a realization on the dilemma of the abundance of the knowledge in business and financial literacy leaving out the scarcity of digital tools and sources.

Purpose This paper aims to examine students’ perception, views and opinions about the usage of mobile phones in an educational setting in a higher education institution located in Jamaica. The results of these findings were used to gain insights and to assist education policymakers in adopting most suitable approaches to integrating mobile technology in learning. Design/methodology/approach A survey approach was used for this study. A total of 145 students participated in the study using structured questionnaire design containing 14 questions. Findings The results indicated an overall positive student perception toward cell phones usage as a learning tool and integrating cell phones into learning activities. Students were keen on its usage as a social connectivity and collaborative tool, which they can use for flexible and personalized learning activities. Originality/value Less research has been done in Caribbean and developing countries in analyzing student perception toward using cell phones for learning purposes. This research provides insights in developing policies to assist with the integration of mobile phone technology in learning and how institutions can respond to the advent of advancing mobile technology.

The purpose of this research is to investigate and understand how students are using computer. The activities that a student undertakes with the help of computers which might be fulfilling some academic or non academic purpose, is of great interest. It will help in understanding the limitations and potentials offered by the technology for use of computer in classroom. This paper brings out the three major kinds of activities that students undertake with computer; self learning activities, Information collection tasks and communication and group activities. The study further analyses the effect of demographics i.e. gender, age and faculty (department) of students on the activities with computer. The results show that gender has no impact on the activities of students with computer. The age impacts only the activities related to Information collection by using computer where as the faculty of student significantly impacts all the activities viz. self learning activities, Information collection tasks and communication and group activities. The findings from this research can be used in designing future e-learning initiatives and development e-learning tools

This paper introduces Learn-CIAM, a new model-based methodological approach for the design of flows and for the semi-automatic generation of tools in order to support collaborative learning tasks. The main objective of this work is to help professors by establishing a series of steps for the specification of their learning courses and the obtaining of collaborative tools to support certain learning activities (in particular, for in-group editing, searching and modeling). This paper presents a complete methodological framework, how it is supported conceptually and technologically, and an application example. So to guarantee the validity of the proposal, we also present some validation processes with potential designers and users from different profiles such as Education and Computer Science. The results seem to demonstrate a positive reception and acceptance, concluding that its application would facilitate the design of learning courses and the generation of collaborative learning tools for professionals of both profiles.

One of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic is felt in the world of education, namely the Government's policy that all learning activities must be carried out from home online. With this policy, students tend to be affected by negative impacts during online learning due to the increasing consumption of the digital world. Therefore, media literacy education is needed for students so that it can become the basic ability of students to overcome negative and negative influences to improve understanding to build knowledge and have more critical thinking about information obtained from the media, especially for students who are currently learning from home online. This study uses a research method with a literature review with data collection techniques carried out through an in-depth study of various reference sources. The results of the analysis show that media literacy education for students during online learning during the covid-19 pandemic is a basic skill that is so important for a student to have, not only for online learning but also for learning in the 21st century as it is today. Media literacy education skills can be applied during online learning by applying skills such as access, select, understand, analyze, verify, evaluate, distribute, produce, participate and collaborate

COVID-19 is a virus originating from Wuhan, China that spread rapidly throughout the world. Indonesia began to be infected since the beginning of March 2020. The impact of the spread of COVID-19 caused losses to many countries, especially in the economic field. In the field of education, learning activities carried out in class are replaced online as a result of the spread of COVID-19 starting from elementary school to tertiary level. This study uses descriptive qualitative methods that describe online learning activities at STMIK Komputama Majenang during the COVID-19 pandemic that was held at home online. The object consists of 5 students of STMIK Komputama Majenang. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire containing questions related to online learning at STMIK Komputama Majenang during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the results of research, online learning activities at STMIK Komputama Majenang have been effective and run well. Some applications used in online learning are Web E-learning, WhatsApp, Telegram, Edmodo, YouTube, Zoom, and Google Classroom. Constraints experienced during online learning are problems with a bad internet connection, limited quota, difficulty in learning, and the presence of other people's distractions when learning takes place.

This paper invokes Redhead’s concept of claustropolitanism to critically explore the affective reality for consumers in today’s digital age. In the context of surveillance capitalism, we argue that consumer subjectivity revolves around the experience of fidelity rather than agency. Instead of experiencing genuine autonomy in their digital lives, consumers are confronted with a sense of confinement that reflects their tacit conformity to the behavioural predictions of surveillant market actors. By exploring how that confinement is lived and felt, we theorise the collective affects that constitute a claustropolitan structure of feeling: incompletion, saturation and alienation. These affective contours trace an oppressive atmosphere that infuses consumers’ lives as they attempt to seek fulfilment through digital market-located behaviours that are largely anticipated and coordinated by surveillant actors. Rather than motivate resistance, these affects ironically work to perpetuate consumers’ commitment to the digital world and their ongoing participation in the surveillant marketplace. Our theorisation continues the critical project of re-assessing the consumer subject by showing how subjectivity is produced at the point of intersection between ideological imperatives and affective consequences.
