Libraries are gradually becoming spaces for discovery, innovation, and community empowerment by catering to the various needs of the public. To harness the unlimited resources in the library, library digital signage is the perfect tool to help transform old buildings and spaces into a place of collaboration and innovation. Since it's a content-centric solution at its core, digital signs can go beyond looping a series of pictures. It's an intelligent tool that can tailor-fit content relative to the audience, location, time of the day, and even process. This chapter will address the different roles of signages and buttress the fact that digital signage can play a major role in this communication process in addition to demonstrating a “green” environment for library patrons. Graphic information can be displayed to the public in meeting rooms, at the front desk, in vestibules or cafeterias/cafes. The messaging can range from programs being held at the library to public service announcements to emergency messaging and so much more. There is no limit to the information that a library signage can convey to its users.

During the 1950s and 1960s, the Federal Civil Defense Administration (FCDA), in cooperation with the Ad Council, featured television commercials that served as public service announcements and fifteen-minute television civil defense advertisements that educated the public about civil defense protocols. Part of its mission was to educate the public in the event of the detonation of a nuclear bomb. This chapter surveys the styles of music used in the televised civil defense advertisements from the early Cold War. The music is distinctly different from what was normally heard on television at the time, often featuring distinct moments of atonality or musical stylings of “us versus them,” that is, American political songs alternating with distinctly Soviet-style music to convey the origin of the threat without directly naming it. These musical oppositions were employed to persuade people to pay attention to the important message onscreen, underscore the potential destruction of the bomb, and relay the importance of civil defense.

Health communication scholars have a responsibility to be certain that both healthcare practitioners and government agencies accurately communicate health information to the public. In order to carry out this duty, health communication scholars must assess how messages are being received and if they are being received at all by the public. This paper details a two part study which assesses this phenomenon within the context of skin cancer. Study 1 utilized 29 in depth qualitative interviews to identify subcultures among college students whose communication puts them at risk for skin cancer by encouraging poor sun exposure behaviors. The results indicate that farmers, African Americans, and individuals who regularly participate in outdoor athletics are at risk groups. Study 2 reports a content analysis of the known population of skin cancer Public Service Announcements (PSAs) available via the internet in 2013. The aforementioned groups were not present in any of the PSAs. Detailed results and implications are discussed.

Public Service Announcements (PSAs) are free announcements made to promote programs, activities, community interest and services from government and the non - government sector. As technology develops, many PSAs use animated characters in order to persuade and create high awareness among people. Animation is a simulation of movement created by displaying a series of pictures or frames such as cartoons on television. Research has shown that PSAs is effective in conveying the message. However, the influences of animated PSAs among students about health and safety messages are still unclear. Previous researchers were more interested to investigate the effects of PSAs to children and less research on animated PSAs towards adults. Therefore, the researcher is interested to study whether or not the animation should be utilized as an effective tool to educate the public. A sample of 285 students watched four animated PSAs and four live action PSAs. Two of each represented animated spoke characters and non spoke characters with a goal to evaluate students responses on positive attitudes. A correlation analysis was used to study the relationship between the positive response of animated PSAs and engagement with results that indicated moderate and high correlation. T tests were used to investigate the comparison between the students responses to animated PSAs versus non animated PSAs and animated spoke characters versus animated non spoke characters. The results emphasize that animated PSAs received better responses among students. Students acceptance towards animated PSAs and animated spoke characters received small but significantly better response.

Public service announcements (PSAs) are the official way for governments to inform, educate and change public behaviour in order to reduce public health issues, such as Covid-19. This study aims to analyse the types of implicatures in the Covid-19 PSAs published by the Ministry of Health Republic of Indonesia in their Instagram account, @kemenkes_ri, in order to fill the research gap on implicature studies in a public health and political contexts. This qualitative descriptive research analysed a data of eleven Covid-19 PSAs which were published from March 2020 to January 2021 according to Grice’s implicature theory. The researchers discovered that PSAs employed conversational implicatures more frequently than conventional implicatures (18%) to deliver their messages, with generalised conversational implicature being more prevalent (64%) than particularised conversational implicature (18%). Conventional implicature was used only in earlier posts when Covid-19 has not been a common knowledge among the public, and once people are already used to the “new normal”, alter PSAs used conversational implicature because the public already have the context of Covid-19. Results of this study illuminated the differences between each type of implicatures and also contributed to the lack of studies of PSAs’ implied meanings, the dearth of implicature studies in a non-classroom context.

Construction of village’s public service model is imperative since village has more authorities as has been mandated by Law Number 6 of 2014 concerning the village. The authorities allow village government to prepare RPJMDes, APBDes, and village planning independently. Therefore, village has wider opportunities to improve its services in accordance with its nature and characteristics. In rural public service perspective, it is necessary to develop a public service model. This study concludes several things: (1) Classification, types and numbers of village services are different; (2) The village’s services are mostly in the form of recommendations at first level which then should be completed at higher levels at sub district and disctrictagencies; (3) To improve the quality of village’s services, they are classified into three groups, namely: (a) recommendation letter; (b) citizenship services; and (c) rural community empowerment. Furthermore, the recommended model is a dispersed model because village service is a part of public service system at subdistrict and disctrict levels. However, only a small part of the public services are fully completed at village government, such as administrative service. Keywords: Capacity building, public services, the village governmentPembangunan model pelayanan publik desa mendesak sejalan dengan meningkatnya kewenangan Pemerintahan Desa sebagaimana diamanatkan Undang-Undang Nomor 6 Tahun 2014 tentang Desa.
