Shamsuddin Ahmed

A hybrid methodology is described to identify a quality gap in a dental hospital. The research case study illustrates how to implement quality improvement in a real-life context. A combination of an ethnographic, narrative, and phenomenological approach in data collection and observations within the dental hospital validates the case findings. A unique method based on systems study and Taguchi loss function is shown to reduce the service quality gap in a dental hospital. A house of quality (HOQ) combines the correlation between “patient's expectations” and the hospital's “technical” characteristics. The correlation between service quality and technical characteristics measures a patient's expectations gap. Factor analysis helps to group service and technical factors for better patient management. A strategy map correlation analysis is generated to manage the quality gap. The correlation analysis between patient expectations and the hospital's technical characteristics identify areas of immediate attention.

Background/Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of exercise commitment facilitated by service quality of smartphone exercise Apps on continued exercise intention and provide primary data for developing and/or improving smartphone exercise Apps. Methods/Statistical analysis: A questionnaire survey was conducted amongst college students who have experiences in using exercise App(s) and regularly exercise. The questionnaire is composed of four parts asking about service quality, exercise commitment, continued exercise intention, which were measured with a 5-point Likert Scale, and demographics. Frequency analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were carried out to analyze the obtained data with PASW 18.0.

A vast array of knowledge has been accumulated on the effect of service quality on customer satisfaction, particularly with a large number of studies over the past few years. However, the effect of service quality on satisfaction of service recipients in Divisional Secretariats in the Public Sector is relatively an unattended area by researchers. Hence, this study was carried out to evaluate the effect of service quality on satisfaction of service recipients of divisional secretariats. This particular organization was selected for the study as it is considered to be the most significant service provider in terms of statutory, social, economic and development in the country. A questionnaire survey and personal interviews were conducted to collect data by using the purposive sampling method. A modified questionnaire was prepared based on SERVQUAL instruments with two additional questions. A sample of 520 service recipients from 13 Divisional Secretariats in Colombo was drawn and it was represented by 40 from each division. Correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used to examine the relative impact of the service quality on satisfaction of service recipients. The study revealed that all the service quality attributes positively related to satisfaction of the service recipients. The findings of the study show that satisfaction of service recipients in terms of service quality has not met the expected level, which a divisional secretariat is deemed to provide for.

Survey and laboratory studies provide support for the self-regulation of prejudice, but it is unclear whether people similarly self-regulate in“real life. Using a phenomenological approach, 153 non-Black participants recalled racial experiences in which they responded in ways they later wished had been different. Participants internally motivated to control prejudice reported discrepancies regardless of their external motivation, but even participants low on internal motivation reported prejudice-related discrepancies if they were externally motivated. Content analysis results are presented to summarize participants discrepancy experiences. Also, most participants discrepancies produced negative self-directed affect and the self-regulation of prejudice in the future. Findings suggest that self-regulation generalizes beyond the laboratory and occurs even among people who are not internally motivated to control their prejudice.

The heterogeneous defect prediction (HDP) technique can predict defects in a target company using heterogeneous metric data from external company, which has received substantial research attention. However, existing HDP methods assume that source data is labeled but labeling data is expensive. Semi-supervised defect prediction technique can perform defect prediction with few labeled data. In this paper, we investigate a new problem — semi-supervised HDP (SHDP). To solve this problem, we propose a new approach named cost-sensitive kernel semi-supervised correlation analysis (CKSCA) as a solution of SHDP problem. It introduces unified metric representation and canonical correlation analysis to make the data distributions of different company projects more similar. CKSCA also designs a cost-sensitive kernel semi-supervised discriminant analysis mechanism to utilize the limited labeled data and sufficient real-life unlabeled data from different companies. Besides we collect lots of open-source projects from GitHub website to construct a new large-scale unlabeled dataset called GITHUB dataset. It contains 26,407 modules and is greater than each public project dataset. It has been public online and can be extended continuously. Experiments on the GITHUB dataset and other public datasets indicate that unlabeled GITHUB data can help prediction model improve prediction performance, and CKSCA is effective and efficient for solving SHDP problem.

The issue of healthcare costs has become increasingly problematic over the years. This chapter summarizes the problems faced by hospitals when measuring the costs of healthcare treatments, explaining how an Activity-Based Costing (ABC) framework can be successfully adopted in healthcare settings. After describing the theoretical foundations of cost control and cost management, the chapter continues with the analysis of three real-life applications of ABC in a hospital, drawn from the process analysis and activity-based costing experience developed at the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria “Ospedali Riuniti” (Joint Hospitals) of Trieste, Italy. In particular, the cases are about cost measurement in cardiology, odontostomatology, and radiology, and describe the technical solutions applied for computing the costs of selected therapeutic and diagnostic treatments. A particular emphasis is placed on how these measures have been subsequently used by hospital managers and medical personnel in order to gain insights and to improve the efficiency of the processes developed within the organization.

GTA (Grand Theft Auto) is a video game containing sexual and violent content classified as a mature category (18+). However in Indonesia, this video game is often played by teenegers under 18 years old. This research purposes to describe teeneger’s experience on playing GTA game and the factors influencing them to play the game. The informants of this research are 6 teenegers who have been playing this game with under 18 years old obtained by using snowball sample technique. The method used in this research is qualitative with phenomenological approach. The data were collected through semi-structured interview. The result of this research shows that teenegers who play this game said that they could gain new experiences like being outside of country situation. For teenegers it was exciting because they could perform things that they could not do in the real life like kill, rob, and fight beetwen gang. The factors influencing them to play GTA game come from their playmates, parent’s supervision, and also education level. Playmates are the main cause for teenegers to play GTA game. Teenagers playing GTA game without parent's supervision will tend to get negative impact. While higher level of teeneger education decreases the intensity of playing GTA game. Therefore, in order to minimize negative impact obtained by teenegers in playing GTA game, it requires the parent supervision so that the teenegers know time limit to play and the certain behavior in the game that may or may not be imitated in the real life.

The legal nature of possession has always been contested. In this study, Christoph Lüttenberg draws on the works of Savigny, Jhering and Heck, while adding semantic epistemology based on the categorical differentiation between the sense, meaning and essence of legal terms. The book explores these three categories of possession. By using the terminology and the abstractionism of a phenomenological approach, the author brings the act of possessing in real life into view and thus inductively integrates it into law.

Since 2012, the Smart Power Team has been actively participating in the Shell Eco-marathon, which is a worldwide competition. From the very beginning, the team has been working to increase driver’s safety on the road by developing Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. This paper presents unique method for designing ADAS systems in order to minimize the costs of the design phase and system implementation and, at the same time, to maximize the positive effect the system has on driver and vehicle safety. The described method is based on using virtual prototyping tool to simulate the system performance in real-life situations. This approach enabled an iterative design process, which resulted in reduction of errors with almost no prototyping and testing costs.
