The valence of any visual paradigm and its accompanying technologies is subject to the contingencies of political regimes and cultural shifts. The instigation, implementation and even reconfiguring of any associated technological system effects a translation and adjustment to the structure and use of these supporting mechanisms that both re-defines the relationship between object and viewer and ultimately influences its translation into material form. The permeation of digital systems throughout contemporary urban space is typified by Internet Protocol webcam systems, instigated by civic authorities for surveillance and the imagistic promotion of iconic city form. This paper examines how this system’s reception and subsequent translation of transmitted data signals into digital information not only presents new material to mediate people’s engagement with public space, but moreover, how it presents new opportunities for the designer to materialize its three-dimensional form within the spatial ambiguity of virtual and real-time environments.

Binocular stereovision has become one of the development trends of machine vision and has been widely used in robot recognition and positioning. However, the current research on omnidirectional motion handling robots at home and abroad is too limited, and many problems cannot be solved well, such as single operating systems, complex algorithms, and low recognition rates. To make a high-efficiency handling robot with high recognition rate, this article studies the problem of robot image feature extraction and matching and proposes an improved speeded up robust features (SURF) algorithm that combines the advantages of both SURF and Binary Robust Independent Elementary Features. The algorithm greatly simplifies the complexity of the algorithm. Experiments show that the improved algorithm greatly improves the speed of matching and ensures the real-time and robustness of the algorithm. In this article, the problem of positioning the target workpiece of the robot is studied. The three-dimensional (3-D) reconstruction of the target workpiece position is performed to obtain the 3-D coordinates of the target workpiece position, thereby completing the positioning work. This article designs a software framework for real-time 3-D object reconstruction. A Bayesian-based matching algorithm combined with Delaunay triangulation is used to obtain the relationship between supported and nonsupported points, and 3-D reconstruction of target objects from sparse to dense matches is achieved.

The visual sensation is an important factor in urban planning. A computer analysis technology based on the three-dimensional Geographical Information Systems (3DGIS) can be used to measure the visibility in urban space. The principle of sight calculations is introduced at first. The visibility analysis models about terrain and buildings are proposed. In terrain visibility analysis, a method based on projection and elevation interpolation is used to calculate the visibility of two points. And in building visibility analysis, another projection method is proposed to judge the relationship between the sight and building. Based on the visibility analysis of two points, an approximate visual field in a plane can be computed in a discrete way. The visibility analysis models are proved to be feasible. Further research that combines the visibility analysis model and the quantitative planning targets is suggested.

The intention of this research is to examine the viability in activating Toronto’s neglected laneways. Behind the densely populated streets of Toronto’s downtown core, lie arguably one of its most underutilized assets: its laneways. Dimly lit, and typically filled with rubbish, these are spaces with potential. This research focuses on Toronto’s possibilities in the creation of laneways as a legitimate urban space; forgotten spaces with the potential to stimulate growth and create lively, safe communities. The literature will examine current policies that may hinder the widespread use of, or lead to the neglect of these spaces, as well as draw conclusions about possible policy and cultural shifts with the potential to revive and create an adaptive laneway culture.

The underground urban complex is developing rapidly with the three-dimensional redevelopment process of the city. The public space of the underground urban complex has been making a great influence on the urban ecology, intensive construction and sustainable development, etc. This paper emphatically expatiate the conception of the public space in the urban underground complex of the cold cities and the necessity of humanized design of the public space. It also analyze how to make a systematic and people-oriented design from several different aspects, such as plane function layout, traffic streamline organization, open space integration, indoor environment., thus establishing a complete underground space order and optimizing the urban space environment as a whole.

An improved progressive mesh simplification algorithm for 3D real-time level of detail rendering of shearer based on half-collapse was proposed, which has been successfully applied in the rendering of shearer and produced a good result. Virtools with its secondary development technology SDK (Software Development Kit) was applied to establishing a 3DVR(Three Dimensional Virtual Reality) digital information platform for shearer based on real-time archiving of important working parameters. By using the real-time data provided by the remote control and monitoring system for shearer, the virtual 3D model was driven to reappearance the working state and changing trend of the real one instantly. Preliminary experiments carried out in Xi’an Coal Mine Machinery Factory show that the 3DVR Digital Platform can be integrated with the remote control system for shearer well. The ability to real-time display of shearer’s working state is better than that in traditional ways, for the information is displayed in the form of data and curve in traditional control and monitoring system for shearer, which is unrealistic to the operator and unsuitable for remote control and monitoring.

Abstract

URBAN ECONOMY AND STREET ARTISTS: PERFORMANCE, MOBILITY, AND CONFLICT IN A TOURISTIFIED PUBLIC SPACE

This article reflects on the complex relationship between street artists, their performances and urban space. The correlation between the psycho-physical well-being of citizens and the provision of green areas has been one of the cornerstones of urban planning since its inception, as its constant commitment to adapt cities and territories to emerging challenges. The spread of SARS-Cov-2 has changed the relationship between citizens and urban space. The public space, has been limited and banned, confining citizens within their private space and the psycho-physical well-being of citizens depended only on the quality of the domestic space. The pandemic represents a moment of reflection and research for the disciplines that deal with the quality of life of citizens. The pandemic crisis may be an opportunity to rethink the role and importance of the provision of public space, in particular urban green areas, their distribution and effective accessibility. The contribution aims to rethink urban models capable of responding to the challenges of the post-pandemic city

Palabras-Clave: TIMES SQUARE; IDENTIDAD; REDES SOCIALES; PANTALLAS URBANAS; ESPACIO PÚBLICO Identity and hegemony: Times Square and the amateur productionAbstractIf we think about the relationship of contemporary urban space and light, we must talk about social dynamics within contemporary cities and how these represent a paradigm of technological and social transformation with respect to the media in the urban space. This has culminated in the conversion of LCD technology screens into part on the environment in which we operate through social networks. On the other hand the place is diluted into virtual images, dislocated and decontextualized, turning the city into a communicative interface, and the visual in a spatial experience. That’s why it’s especially interesting to analyze this phenomenon in which elements come into play affecting the constituent frames of our social experience and identity in a variable and contingent space, through which it is producing a shift of uses within public sphere, creating new forms of entertainment that produce new surveillance policies of the other. Keywords: TIMES SQUARE; IDENTITY; SOCIAL NETWORKS; URBAN SCREENS; PUBLIC SPACE

I approach the theme of the sublime experience in public urban space from the point of view of a visual artist and from one of a person walking through the city. In this essay a concrete sublime experience in public urban space is analysed through an experimental artistic intervention. In this way knowledge is gathered about the relationship between public urban space and its users. I engage in a dialogue with the ancient understanding of the sublime as an effect of elevated, performed language. Features of this rhetoric are adapted on to the visual appearance of public urban space in order to reveal situations that evoke sublime experiences.
