With the development of economy, there are an increasing number of cars as well as traffic accidents, thus intensifying the need to take measures to reduce traffic accidents and protect the safety of life and property. Vehicle distance is one of the most important indexes of traffic safety. The measurement of safety vehicle distance has become an increasingly hot research area of intelligent transportation. Through analyzing the basic principle of stereo vision and calibrating the parameters of the CCD sensors both inside and outside, this paper comes up with a method to measure the former vehicle distance based on stereo vision and DSP. Once the vehicle speed and distance form a non-security association, it will give a warning, and upload data or force speed-limiting. According to the different coordinates of the obtained images of the target vehicle from the left and the right sensor, this method can identify feature points, calculate distance to the target vehicle, and analyze the security of vehicle distance. The experimental results show that this method has wide measurement range, high measurement accuracy, and fast operation rate, thus it can meet the actual needs of the measurement of safe vehicle distance in intelligent transportation.

The article is considered issues forensic experts face while forensic avtotechnical examinations (expert research) during technical analysis of drivers actions of operational vehicles at signal-controlled intersections. Recently a large number of traffic accidents occur involving operational vehicles which include vehicles: ambulance, road safety service, emergency rescue service, fire service, cash-in-transit service, patrol service of police and others. Traffic Code of Ukraine define the duties and rights of the operational vehicles drivers carrying out urgent official task can derogate from requirements of sections 8 (except traffic controller signals), 10–18, 26, 27 and item 28.1 of this Code subject to inclusion of blue flashing beacon or red color and a special sound signal and ensuring traffic safety. Drivers of other vehicles in case of a vehicle approaching with blue flashing beacon and (or) a special sound signal, which can create to it an obstacle for movement, must yield the right of way to it and provide unobstructed passage of the specified vehicle (and vehicles accompanied by it). The most common cause of traffic accidents are erroneous actions of road users that require from forensic avtotechnical examiners in-depth analysis and proper assessment regarding requirements of the Traffic Сode of Ukraine and other normative documents. During of the pre-trial investigation and while the judicial inquiry of cases regarding traffic accidents, the analysis of its participants actions is paid special attention. Appointing a forensic avtotechnical examination investigators (judges) are waiting for a forensic examiner performing of in-depth scientific research of actions vehicles drivers based on special knowledge in the field of forensic avtotechnics.

The majority of traffic accidents on the highway is rear-end collision. According to statistics about ninety percent rear-end collision can be avoided if there is 1 second pretreatment time for drivers. So it is necessary to develop automotive rear-end collision warning system to prevent the occurrence of accidents. The anti-rear-end collision warning system based on Zigbee technology is designded in this paper. Vehicle speed, acceleration and other traffic information among the nodes can be exchanged on real-time by using self-organizing wireless sensor networks consisted by Zigbee network nodes. A vehicle safe distance model is established after considered the effects of other traffic safety factors, and then, the actual distance measured by radar is compared with the safe distance so as to provide early warning, alarm and other driving information to drivers. The experiment results show that the system can effectively provide early warning, avoid rear-end collision, and improve active safety of vehicles.

Based on the traffic accidents statistical data of 10 typical freeways in mainland China, by using of some kinds of regression model, the influences of the average vehicle speed and the speed standard deviation on the traffic safety are studied. According to the regression results, the accidents show an increasing trend with the increase of the vehicle average speed and the speed standard deviation. On this basis, in view of the regression results, the strategy is put forward for controlling the vehicle average speed and the speed standard deviation, which has important theoretical and practical significance for improving highway safety. After a comprehensive comparison among these regression methods, it is found that the nonlinear regression method of user-defined model expression has the best fitting effect, and it can also more accurately describe the objective reality. It has high practicality and popularized value.

A common type of bike lane at intersections is between the through lane and the right lane. With such design, right-turning drivers need to cross the bike lane to merge into the right lane, which could cause conflicts with bicycles on the keyhole bike lane. This study aims to develop a warning system for drivers to avoid vehicle–bicycle crashes in the bike lane area under a connected vehicle environment. To propose a reasonable warning system, 118 right-turning vehicle trajectories were collected by an unmanned aerial vehicle. Drivers’ right-turning behaviors are investigated based on the trajectory data. Then, a vehicle–bicycle crash warning algorithm is proposed to calculate the post-encroachment time (PET) under different situations. By comparing the threshold value and the PET value, potential vehicle–bicycle crash locations in the bike lane area could be identified. The proposed algorithm is designed to be displayed on front windshields with an augmented reality display. The results suggested that the proposed algorithm could provide high prediction accuracy. Moreover, vehicle speed, vehicle location, bicycle speed, and bicycle location were found to have significant impact on the locations of dangerous areas. It is expected that the proposed warning system could be used to identify the dangerous areas and deliver warning information for right-turning drivers when they are approaching an intersection. The warning system could help drivers be more prepared for the upcoming right-turning maneuver, and thus improve traffic safety for both drivers and cyclists at intersections.

In this study, we describe the results of an analysis of the effectiveness of providing pedestrian safety services, in terms of reducing pedestrian traffic accidents. We conducted our analysis by investigating the speed of vehicles at two different demonstration points, where the same system and service were provided. For this purpose, we selected a child protection zone and a point on a general road section where a raised crossing is installed. We conducted vehicle speed surveys at the point adjacent to the crosswalk and the points where the driver is expected to be fully provided with information, in order to examine the change in vehicle approach speed, depending on the provision of the service. Overall, the analysis showed that the vehicle’s speed at the point and approaching speed decreased when the pedestrian safety service was provided; however, the effect was more pronounced in the child protection zone, considering the characteristics of the demonstration points. From these results, we conclude that it is necessary to provide services and develop guidelines considering the surrounding environment, such as traffic safety facilities and road safety facilities, according to the characteristics and classification of each point, in order to provide efficient pedestrian safety services.

<p>The increasing number of residents every year causes the need for transportation to also increase, this also occurs on the Sukabumi-Bogor Primary Arterial Road which is a road with a fairly high volume of traffic flow, in addition because the industrial center and tourism sector are located right on the national road, Insufficient geometric roads caused by the increasing number of vehicles is also a factor that affects the high number of traffic accidents along the Cibadak – Bogor Road. The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of the accident-prone areas (blackspots) on the Jl. Surya Kencana, Pamuruyan Village, Cibadak District - Jl. Raya Ciutara, Pondok Kaso Landeuh Village, Parungkuda District. The method used in this study is the EAN (Equivalent Accident Number) method and the Cussum (Cumulative Summery) method. From the results of the weighting using the EAN method, it was identified that STA 1, STA 4, STA 5, and STA 6 were blackspots. Meanwhile, the Cussum method identified STA 1, STA 4, STA 5, STA 6, and STA 9 as blackspots. The right type of handling for accident-prone locations from the observations, among others, is making a thunder strip facility close to the zebra cross area to reduce vehicle speed and installing a safety fence on the shoulder of the road so as to minimize road crossings that directly cross the road without using zebra cross facilities.</p>

Countries from all over the world including Iran, consider different maximum allowable speeds to control and maintain traffic safety on their freeways, but these actions have not been successful even with the police surveillance. Even though speeding is not the only cause of accidents, past studies indicate that speed plays a vital role in such events. Since respecting the speed limits have not prevented driving violations and traffic accidents, there’s doubt among decision-makers, about the applicability and safety of these legal speed limits in different weather and traffic conditions. They think perhaps there is a need for an optimized and safe speed after doing required studies. Even in the police instructions and notifications in unfavorable weather conditions, the word “safe speed” is used more than the “legal speed” and its limit is not mentioned and its determination is assigned to drivers according to their mental and physical conditions, type of vehicle, and the weather condition. This matter leads to uncertainty for drivers in selecting the right speed. This research is intended to achieve a safe and optimized speed for freeways in Iran, by considering a reasonable adjustment which is acceptable by the drivers so that a substantial decrease in driving violations and accidents could be observed. This work is done by using models developed for predicting violations and accidents on Iran’s freeways. The results indicate that by reducing the allowable speed of freeways from 125km/h to 105km/h, a 48% and 23% reduction of violations and traffic accidents could be achieved.
