At present, CAD/CAM technology is applied in many areas, and machinery manufacturing was one of these areas in which CAD/CAM technology is the first and most widely used. With the development of CAD/CAM technology, CAD/CAM technology has become a key technology to improve the design and manufacturing standards, and enhance the competitiveness of the industry. In this paper, the concept of point-based geometric models used in CAD/CAM is proposed, the definition of the point-based geometric model and its CAD/CAM application process are suggested, and the geometric characteristics of the point-based geometric model and the CAD/CAM system development methodology are analysed.

With the development of computer technology, CAD / CAM technologies have been widely used in the machinery manufacturing industry. They have brought fundamental changes to product design and manufacturing method. Based on the characteristics of punching machine processing technology, the main content of this paper is the study on boards CAM key technology taking NC machining applications for boards punching as the background. This study takes VC + + software as the platform and widely applies VC + + development tools and OpenGL technology in the process of developing graphical simulation system. The purpose of this study is to achieve drawing function, automatically extract pixels in AutoCAD graph such as holes, and automatically generate NC machining program by the extracted pixels on the basis of the pixel extraction. This can ensure the uniqueness and accuracy of the data, so as to improve the efficiency of programming.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a new geometric model based on the mathematical morphology paradigm, specialized to provide determinism to the classic morphological operations. The determinism is needed to model dynamic processes that require an order of application, as is the case for designing and manufacturing objects in CAD/CAM environments. Design/methodology/approach – The basic trajectory-based operation is the basis of the proposed morphological specialization. This operation allows the definition of morphological operators that obtain sequentially ordered sets of points from the boundary of the target objects, inexistent determinism in the classical morphological paradigm. From this basic operation, the complete set of morphological operators is redefined, incorporating the concept of boundary and determinism: trajectory-based erosion and dilation, and other morphological filtering operations. Findings – This new morphological framework allows the definition of complex three-dimensional objects, providing arithmetical support to generating machining trajectories, one of the most complex problems currently occurring in CAD/CAM. Originality/value – The model proposes the integration of the processes of design and manufacture, so that it avoids the problems of accuracy and integrity that present other classic geometric models that divide these processes in two phases. Furthermore, the morphological operative is based on points sets, so the geometric data structures and the operations are intrinsically simple and efficient. Another important value that no excessive computational resources are needed, because only the points in the boundary are processed.

In the 21st century, technology and material flows constitute an ever-growing set of global environmental change. In particular, electronic wastes are emerging as a major transnational problem. Industrial nations are shipping millions of obsolete computers to Asia yearly; Asian countries are emerging as generators of e-waste in their own right. This article argues that an environmental justice approach can help illuminate the impacts of technology and material flows. To do so, however, environmental justice definitions and methodologies need to account for how and why such flows occur. Using the case of computers, the article analyses some factors shaping the e-waste recycling chain, shows how e-waste risks depend on design and manufacturing chains, and evaluates inequalities in the ecological and health impacts of e-wastes across Asia. It proposes a definition of environmental justice as obviating the production of risk, using a framework that brings together the global production system, development models, and regulatory action.

This paper gives the definition of configuration rules in the customized production process of mechanical products from two different levels: the activities and parts. In this configuration, different customized production process of customized products will be generated to achieve the purpose of reusing different types of resources; finally, practical example will be given to prove this verification. Customized production is interactive and highly imitative. According to theses two advantages, this paper adopts computer technology to establish geometric model of production figures. In this way, this application can not only simultaneously meet the needs of both machinery manufacturing production and customized production, but also launch various simulation, verification, and contrast and optimization process to a variety of program. Finally, an optimal method for production is used eventually to realize the purpose of low-cost and high quality.

Gonova Beauty Care is a beauty clinic that offers various types of beauty care services, consultations and beauty products, which was established on September 14, 2016. Where all transaction activities at the clinic still use the traditional process where customers must first come to the clinic. To help overcome the problem in Gonova Beauty Care, the author tries to analyze and design a new system using the system development methodology, namely the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) method. The proposed new system is based on the website to manage transactions that occur at the clinic and can make it easier for customers to place an order. The website is designed to serve the transaction of sales of beauty products and ordering beauty services. In this paper, web-based design and manufacturing systems are compared with a commercial CAD/CAM system from the point of usability. The web-based systems included in this study were MIcro Machining System (MIMS) and SmartFab. In the MIMS architecture, a 3D model in STL format was read via a web browser, sent to the web server for toolpath planning, and NC codes were generated to be fed back to the designer through the web connection. In the SmartFab system, SolidWorks was used as the design interface with provided modified menus for micro machining. These additional menus were created by SolidWorks API that also provided web-based links to the toolpath planner. In the commercial CAD/CAM case, without using any web connection, SolidWorks or CATIA was used for design, and PowerMill was used as a CAM tool. For each design and manufacturing system, accessibility, user-friendliness, toolpath-reliability, and processing time were compared. Total 91 students tested these systems in undergraduate CAD class, and the feedback showed better performance of the web-based system in accessibility, user-friendliness, and processing time. However, reliability of the web-based system showed necessity of further improvement.

In order to meet the needs of enterprises for chamfering complex parts, based on the customization of commercial CAD/CAM software, chamfer programming software is developed. According to user’s machining demands for a part, a chain of edges of a part is extracted from its 3D model. With preprocessing of the chain of edges, the continuity of the chain is estimated, and the start and end point of those edges are automatic obtained. Furthermore, with human-machine dialogue, machining parameters is set by users. By definition of the primary and secondary surfaces of the chain of edges, and interpolation of the edges, the positions of cutter location point and postures of cutter are calculated. Finally the interference of tool path is checked, and tool path is simulated. The software solves the programming problem of chamfering complex parts.

Abstract The data base requirements for concurrent design systems are discussed. An object-oriented data base, which allows for definition of complex objects, specification of relationships between objects, and modular expandability without affecting the existing information is defined. The data base is developed based on the object-oriented data model implemented in Smalltalk-80. An assumption-based truth maintenance system for maintaining the dependency relationships between design and manufacturing information is described.

Abstract In this paper we present our experience from the use of two different expert system development environments to Wire-EDM CAD/CAM knowledge based application. The two systems used follow two different AI approaches: the one is based on the constraint propagation theory and provides a natural language oriented programming environment, while the other is a production rule system with backward-forward chaining mechanisms and a conventional-like programming style. Our experience showed that the natural language programming style offers an easier and more productive environment for knowledge based CAD/CAM systems development.
