The aim of this study was to explored the effects of Fe2O3 and Bi2O3 on the color properties of a 3Y-TZP zirconia ceramics for dental application. Pigmented dental ZrO2 powders were prepared by mixing different concentration of Fe2O3 and Bi2O3, also in their combinations with 3Y-TZP powders. The mixture was compacted by isostastic pressure, then densely sintered. Color parameters were measured by Minolta CM2600d spectrophotometer. XRD was used to exam the structure of colored 3Y-TZP. Experimental results showed that the hue of the materials shift from yellow-green to yellow-red with the increasing concentration of the Fe2O3 and Bi2O3. Combined use of Fe2O3 and Bi2O3 could further decrease the L* value, which color scope was suitable for dental color matching. The XRD spectra showed only tetragonal phase was detected.

This paper explored the color and mechanical properties of CeO2 and Er2O3 shaded zirconia ceramics for dental application. Twelve kinds of colored dental ZrO2 powders were prepared. Experimental results showed that the hue of the materials shift from yellow-green to yellow-red with the increasing concentration of the CeO2 and Er2O3, while reducing of the brightness( L* ) value was little. Three-point bending strength decreased form 1209MPa to 845MPa after coloring, which was lower than the uncolored materials (1301MPa). The fracture toughness decrease slightly. SEM observation revealed more porous microstructure in specimen containing both two additives. Cerium oxide and erbium oxide are candidates of color additives for shading dental zirconia ceramics.

For the first time nanostructured engineering ceramics were prepared from natural zirconia mineral (baddeleyite) with CaO as a tetragonal phase stabilizer. The effect of synthesis conditions on microstructure and mechanical properties of the baddeleyite-based ceramics is reported, furthermore, the effect of calcia content on hardness and fracture toughness is studied. Optimal calcia concentration and synthesis conditions are found, corresponding hardness and fracture toughness values are 10,8 GPa and 13,3 MPa×m1/2. The reported mechanical properties are comparable to those typically reported for yttria-stabilized engineering zirconia ceramics, prepared from chemically synthesized zirconia.

The color-matching model is conducive to expanding the scope of application of colorful fabrics and can speed up the achievement of intelligent production. To solve the problem in which the existing color-matching system of intelligent colored spun yarn cannot be applied to the digital rotor-spinning products of dope dyed viscose fiber, 66 types of mélange yarn were spun with a digital rotor-spinning frame using red, yellow, and blue dope dyed viscose fibers at a ratio gradient of 10%. Furthermore, the knitted fabric samples were produced using a circular machine. Meanwhile, a Datacolor 650 spectrophotometer was used for color testing, and the experimental results were recorded. Based on the color-matching model of the Kubelka–Munk theory, a color-matching model is built based on the experimental results. In addition, the accuracy of the model was analyzed and verified using the least-squares and relative value methods. The results show that, compared with the relative value method, the color-matching model constructed using the absorption coefficient K value and scattering coefficient S value calculated based on the least-squares approach is more accurate. The error between the predicted ratio of the test sample and the actual ratio was only 0.0979, the average color difference was only 0.465, and there were no visible differences between the predicted color of the sample and the actual color.

ABSTRACT Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of a cleaning agent and priming on the bond strength (BS) of a resin cement (RC) to zirconia ceramics after 24 h and 1 year of water-storage. Materials and Methods: Fifty-six Katana and 56 ZirCAD zirconia ceramic plates were prepared and each zirconia brand was divided into four groups (n = 14): (1) untreated; (2) treated with Ivoclean cleaning agent; (3) treated with Monobond Plus coupling agent; (4) treated with Ivoclean + Monobond Plus. Cleaning and coupling agents were applied to zirconia following the manufacturers' instructions. The RC was manipulated, inserted into tubes (0.75 mm diameter/1 mm height) that were positioned on the zirconia surfaces and light activated. Specimens were tested after 24 h and 1 year of water storage. A shear load was applied to the base of the RC cylinders (until failure. Data were analyzed by three-way ANOVA and Tukey tests (α = 5%). Results: No significant difference in BS was noted between zirconia ceramics, except when the combination of cleaning and coupling agents was used. This combination increased the BS for Katana zirconia. One year of water storage leads to a decrease in BS for all experimental groups. Conclusion: The combination of cleaning agent and priming can yield higher BS for Katana at 24 h. BS to zirconia ceramics reduced approximately 50% after 1 year.

Fine-grained monoclinic zirconia ceramic was made from well-dispersed zirconia sol prepared by the hydrolysis of zirconium chloride oxide octahydrate. Dechlorinated and concentrated zirconia sol was consolidated by pressure filtration. The relative green density of the compact was improved by the following cold isostatic pressing treatment at 400 MPa. The compact was densified by pressureless sintering to >98% of theoretical density in air at 1100 °C, which is lower than that of monoclinic to tetragonal transformation of pure zirconia. The average grain size of the sintered monoclinic zirconia ceramics was 92 nm.

There are many bonding methods of the ceramic sintered body, such as diffusion bonding, glass bonding, and reports in this regard are not difficult to see. But the solid electrolyte zirconia ceramic bonding in NOx sensor is rarely reported. Here we use zirconia and aluminum-silicon glass together to bond zirconia ceramic sintered body, and tested the electrochemical performance with AC (alternating current) impedance spectroscopy, EMF (electromotive force) of the adhesive layer. The results indicates that the the electrochemical performance is good.

Acoustic emission (AE) technique was employed to monitor the low temperature degradation (LTD) behavior of a zirconia ceramic, which was carried out in air at 200°C. AE signals, typical waveform of which exhibited as pulse-like type, were detected during LTD and increased with the duration time of LTD. The AE signal of accumulative counts number and amplitude in time domain exhibited a roughly sigmoid variation including three stages, which reflect approximately the evolution of LTD. The AE findings were supported by X-ray diffraction (XRD) examination. It was suggested that AE technique can be used to monitor the mechanism of LTD of zirconia ceramics.

It is well known that sol-gel technique is a simple method to produce nano sized ceramic powders. In this study, cerium oxide doped zirconia samples, with 10 mol%-12mol% and14mol% CeO2, were synthesized by sol-gel technique and characterized. The surface morphology, elemental composition, microstructure, and phase analysis, of the sintered CeO2 doped ZrO2 ceramics were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDS) analysis, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) respectively. X-ray diffraction for samples sintered at 1550 °C for 4h revealed that the zirconia ceramics have a tetragonal phase structure. The addition of CeO2 can raise the content of the tetragonal phase, but the minor monoclinic phase exists even at the CeO2 content of 10 mol%. The effect of dopant concentration on the lattice parameter, average primary crystallite size and micro-strain was studied. Relative densities for CeO2 doped ZrO2 bulk ceramics varied between 95% and 99 %, depending on the CeO2 addition.

In this paper, studies were conducted by a series of single-factor experiments to investigate the effects of ultrasound types and working parameters on the higher alcohols (HA), phenolic compounds, and color properties of red wine, so as to highlight the importance of the comprehensive consideration on its application. The results indicate that ultrasound devices and working parameters do have some definite influences on the HA of wine; moreover, the ultrasound bath (SB-500DTY) is better than the SCIENTZ-950E and the KQ-300VDE. With the SB-500DTY employed to further investigate its effects on phenols and color properties other than on HA, unexpectedly, some variations of color parameters are opposite to the results ever obtained from other ultrasound conditions. In summary, all these results suggest that both the ultrasound type and parameters should be fully considered or neutralized so as to have a comprehensive evaluation about its application, instead of some contradictory results.
