The results of researches of wood burning parameters and influence of fire-retardant substances on them are given. Studies have shown that the process of heat insulation of a wooden structure is the formation of soot-like products on the surface of natural combustible material. Under the action of the burner flame on the protected sample treated with impregnating solutions based on a mixture of ammonium phosphate with antiseptic, the temperature of gaseous combustion products was 230 oC, and weight loss did not exceed 9%, while wood treated with a composition of urea and phosphoric acids and starch showed temperature of 160 oС with a weight loss of 3.6%. It is established that fire protection by coatings provides a low rate of burnout of wood samples and with increasing temperature exposure and translates into a non-flammable material that does not spread the flame on the surface.

The effect of the composition on the weight loss of wood protected by a coating based on inorganic and organic substances in the process of thermal exposure, which is a feature of the study of the flame retardant effectiveness of the composition, is investigated. The solution of this problem is carried out by specially developed methods. The influence of fire protection under the influence of high-temperature heat flux on the change in the process of loss of mass of fire-protected wood is determined and the mechanism of kinetics of action of the composition is characterized, which is characterized by a decrease in the speed of flame propagation and mass loss. The results of thermogravimetric studies determined the weight loss of the coatings as a function of temperature, the results of which investigated the activation energy at the temperature decomposition of the coatings and found that for wood it was 36.56 kJ / mol, and in the case of fire protection it increased 2.3 times. which makes it possible to conclude that it is advisable to use lacquer varnish to improve the fire retardant efficiency of wood. Thus, for the specimen of fire-retardant lacquer wood, there is a gradual decrease in temperature, ie, the work of the coating is fixed, and, accordingly, the activation energy is increased during the decomposition of the wood. In order to establish the flame retardant efficiency in the application of high-temperature blowing lacquer, studies were conducted to determine the combustibility index of wood by mass loss, flame spread and temperature increase of flue gases and found that when processing wood goes to the group of combustible materials with a burning index.

Based on the generalization of research results on the processes of obtaining SiO2 sols using tetraethoxysilane and ethyl silicates, the main factors influencing the elasticity of silica coatings on cotton fabrics and their fire-retardant properties are considered. The possibility of forming covalent bonds between the functional groups of cellulose, gel coating and flame retardant layer is considered, which explains the strong fixation of a thin layer of coating on the fibers of the fabric and improve its fire protection. The use of the developed compositions for fire-retardant elastic coatings based on ethyl silicate allows to increase the time of complete burning of cotton from 30s (untreated fabric) to 600s (treated with binary coating).

Abstract. The processes of creation of fire-retardant varnish for wood consisting of a mixture of inorganic and polymeric substances are investigated in the work. It is established that the optimization of the inorganic component leads to a directional ratio of mineral acids and urea capable of effective fire protection of the material. Studies have shown that at the initial temperature of gaseous combustion products T = 68 °C, when exposed to the radiation panel, the untreated sample ignited after 146 s, the flame spread over the entire surface, instead, the sample fire-protected varnish did not ignite, the maximum temperature was 105 °C. In this case, as evidenced by the results of heat resistance, there is a change in the structure of the protective film of the coating. The thickness of the protective layer increases due to the decomposition of the composition, which leads to inhibition of oxidation in the gas and condensed phase, change the direction of decomposition towards the formation of non-combustible gases and combustible coke residue, reduce material combustion and increase flammability index. The coating under the influence of high temperature promotes the formation of a heat-insulating layer of coke, which prevents burning and the passage of high temperature to the material, which is confirmed by the absence of the process of ignition of fire-retardant wood. Features of braking of process of ignition and distribution of a flame of the wood processed by a varnish which consist in several aspects are established. This is the formation of a heat-insulating layer of coke, which prevents burning and the passage of high temperatures to the material, which is confirmed by the absence of the process of ignition of fire-retardant reeds. This indicates the possibility of targeted control of high temperature transfer processes to organic material through the use of special coatings for wood products.

Reducing the fire prevention of timber is not only an economic task, but also has a social and environmental focus. From economic, technological and environmental perspective, an important problem in ensuring the viability and safe operation of construction sites is the development of fire-retardant coatings for wooden structures. The construction is increasingly looking for new highly effective means of fire protection of wood and wood products which should not only ensure the standardized fire resistance of wood, but also to maintain its operational parameters to solve environmental safety and durability. Studies of the effect of the radiation panel on the ignition of the wood sample have set the parameters of the flame ignition, which makes it possible to influence this process. It is proved that they consist in the formation of a layer of organic material on the surface, which provides heating to a critical temperature, when the intensive decomposition of the material begins with the release of the required amount of combustible gases and their ignition. This makes it possible to determine the effect of fire protection and the properties of protective compositions on the process of slowing down the rate of burning of wood. Experimental studies have confirmed that the untreated sample of wood, under the thermal action of the radiation panel has taken up, the flames spread over the entire surface, which led to its combustion. The application of a fire retardant varnish under the influence of temperature leads to a layer of foam coke and inhibition of heat transfer of high-temperature flame to the material and its ignition. Thanks to this, it became possible to determine the conditions for changing the parameters of combustion and braking during fire protection of wood, by forming a barrier for thermal conductivity. Thus, there is reason to argue for the possibility of directional control of the processes of fire protection of wood by the use of fireproof coatings that can form a protective layer on the surface of the material, which slows down the rate of burning of wood.

Purpose. Identification of the main directions of evolution of scientific researches concerning development and improvement of fire protective reactive coatings of intumescent type for steel constructions. Methods. Analysis of literature sources, study and generalization of information, classification and modeling of chemical processes. Results. As a result of the performed researches it has been shown that of all the developed reactive fire protection systems for increasing the fire resistance of steel structures the intumescent composition of ammonium polyphosphate/ pentaerythritol / melamine / polymer is the most widespread and economically justified. To reduce the cost of fire protection measures, it is necessary to improve the coatings of the intumescent type in the following main areas: increasing of fire protection efficiency with a decrease in the thickness of the fire protection layer; prolongation of life time with strengthening of resistance to external factors; reducing the cost of the prescription composition of intumescent paint due to the use of nanomaterials. Scientific novelty. It has been established that nanoclays, nanooxides of metals and silicon, LDH compounds and their analogues should be considered the most promising and multifunctional. The presence of nanomaterials in intumescent compositions allows to increase the environmental parameters of fire-retardant treatment due to the rejection of halogen flame retardants, boron compounds, formaldehyde resins. In addition, the presence of nanocompounds in intumescent coatings significantly reduces smoke in fire. Practical significance. The conclusions obtained from the literature review are of practical importance for the development of new approaches to the design of fire-fighting materials with improved performance through the use of nanomaterials, which provides a strong fire retardant foam char layer and provides rigidity of the insulation frame.

Introduction. At present, the house-building industry, that produces timber structures, is in the process of sufficiently intensive development; however, high flammability of wood is the factor that restrains widespread use of timber in construction. The purpose of this work is to optimize the conditions of application of fire-retardant timber in the construction industry. The co-authors believe that the following problems are to be solved to attain this objective:● a comparative analysis of the fireproofing efficiency of several fire-proofing agents applied to different species of wood;● determination of the character of influence produced by fire proofing agents on fire retardant properties of wood. Methods of research. The fire proofing efficiency of sample compositions designated for wood was measured in compliance with the benchmark testing method specified in GOST R 53292 (p. 6.2). Experiments were launched pursuant to the methodology and with the help of measurement instruments specified in GOST 30244–94 (Method 2) to study the extent of the pine-tree timber flammability suppression. Critical values of thermal loads that may trigger inflammation and flame propagation in timber structures, that can be described using values of the critical surface density of the heat flow, were determined pursuant to GOST 30402–96 and GOST R 51032–97. The toxicity of combustion products and the smoke generation ability of fire-retardant pine-tree samples was assessed using standard methods and measurement instruments pursuant to GOST 12.1.044–89 (paragraphs 4.18 and 4.20).Research results and discussion. Biological flame retardants, integrated biological flame retardants that also ensure moisture protection, intumescent coatings, lacquers and varnishes that are ready for use and labelled as having group I and II fire-retardant efficiency pursuant to GOST R 53292, were studied in the course of this research project. The co-authors have identified that the mass loss by all fire-retardant compositions is below 9 %, if applied to samples of larch and oak-tree timber, same as if it were applied to standard samples of pine-tree timber. The findings of the experiment conducted to assess the flammability, ignitibility, flame propagation, smoke generation ability and toxicity of combustion products have proven the maximal efficiency of the composition designated for full-cell pressure impregnation of timber that ensures the properties of the material labelled as G1, V1, RP1, T2, D2.Conclusions. Hence, the research results have enabled the co-authors to assess the discrepancy between average mass loss values demonstrated by the samples of different species of timber (alder, linden, pine-tree, larch, and oak-tree).The comprehensive study of flammability properties of timber, treated by compositions that vary in their chemical composition and mode of action of the fire proofing agent, enabled the co-authors to identify the impact produced by versatile fire-proofing agents on different flammability properties of pine-tree timber with regard taken of the fire-safe use of construction materials and constructions of buildings and structures.

This work aims to reveal the effects of zeolite on properties of fly ash based geopolymer under high temperature at 300 °C, 600 °C and 900 °C. The specimens were prepared by alkali activation of fly ash, which was partially replaced by two different types of zeolite at 10%, 20% and 30% by weight. The specimens were analyzed for the maximum compressive strength, weight loss percentage, XRD and SEM. The results highlighted that the percentage of weight loss increased with the ratio of zeolite replacement. The compressive strength of geopolymer with synthetic zeolite and natural zeolite at 7, 28, 60 days were similar. The high-temperature exposure resulted in the reduction in compressive strength in all proportions. At the same temperature, compressive strength of all specimens were not significantly different.

A new design method for fire protection, based on analytic hierarchy process (AHP), was put forward, to explore an economic and secure strategy for fire protection of steel staggered-truss structure (SSTS). The chords and web members of SSTS were classified into different important grades by AHP according to the influence which components make on the stability of structure at elevated temperature. And the components are protected by different levels based on the important grades. Furthermore, a comparative investigation was conducted in order to appraise the economic and practical performance of the provided new fire protection method with traditional fire protection. The results indicate that the proposed fire protection strategy for SSTS based on AHP could achieve higher security with the same volume of fire retardant coatings.
