The worldwide use of cell phones has rapidly increased over the past decades. With the increasing use of mobile phones, concern has been raised about the possible carcinogenic effects as a result of exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields. The objective of this study was to explore the perceptions and opinions towards brain cancer related to cell phone use among university students in Malaysia. Abstract Background A large number of primary school children have personal smartphones which enable them to communicate with lots of people and use social networks. However, social networking should not be accessible to primary school pupils due to existing age restrictions. Studies show that cell phones can be used to send offensive or sexual content to children or by them. This might have long-term effects on child's mental health and even provoke suicidal thoughts. While parents are able to control many aspects of children's life, we aimed to disclose parental attitudes towards use of mobile phones among children. Methods A total number of 619 parents of primary school children from middle-sized town of Lithuania participated in this study. Parents anonymously expressed their opinion to questions about personal cell phones usage among children. Distribution of participants was assessed according to social and demographic characteristics. Results Most of the respondents (79.8%) indicated that use of mobile phones might be harmful to children's health, 56.0% indicated that their children use social networks and every second child was registered by their parents (49.5%). Minority of the respondents (8.1%) thought that children (including children from other families) receive messages from strangers and communicate with them (2.1%). Similarly, very few of the respondents thought that children receive offensive (15.0%) or sexual (4.8%) content. Younger and lower educated parents registered their children to social networks more frequently (p-value less than 0.05). Lower educated parents more frequently indicated that offensive or sexual content can reach children via smartphones (p-value less than 0.05). Conclusions Majority of parents of primary school children thought that cell phones might be harmful to children's health but most of them did not pay attention to threats such as communication with strangers or transmission of sexual content. Key messages Only minority of parents of primary school children indicated communication with strangers or transmission of sexual content as threats induced by use of smartphones among children. Regardless that lower educated parents indicated awareness of content-related threats to children more frequently they registered their children to social networks more frequently as well.

Mobile phone is one of the developing communication tools today. The global debate and controversy regarding the health effects of cell phones continues. There are concerns that radio frequency energy (radio waves) emitted can cause health problems, especially to hearing function. The aim of the study was to find out how "the description of hearing loss with the use of mobile phones in Pekanbaru 12 SMA. The type of research used is descriptive with probality sampling sampling technique where the sample in this study is to take respondents based on random or coincidental in SMA Negeri 12 Pekanbaru which amounted to 249 respondents. Data collection tools using questionnaires as well as examination of auditory function by means of the rinne test used is univariate. The results of the research which was conducted on 23 July - 28 July 2018 showed that of 249 respondents (100%) were all mobile users and from the results of rinne test, 66 respondents (26.5%) had positive hearing loss and 183 respondents (73 , 5%) negative did not experience hearing loss.

Communication is an essential aspect in human life and the role of cell phones has become a very important part in these days.In recent years, the number of mobile phones in the world had been increased at an exponential rate.The reasons for this are numerous, however lower prices and the availability of new technology mean that even the younger ones now own and regularly use mobile phones. Moreover, it has the capability to keeps in touch with family and friends from faraway places; these days due to the development of advanced technologies cell phones are not accomplished only for receiving and talking phone calls, but can also stores important data, takings cameras, stores songs etc.

Abstract This study assessed the progression of Pb, Cd and Cr concentrations in plastic components (PCs) and printed wiring boards (PWBs) of 59 end-of-life (EoL) mobile phones (MPs) produced between 2000 and 2015 by two leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) patronized by Nigerians. This was done to study the behavior of OEMs in complying with some widely acceptable regulations. Metals in PCs and PWBs of MPs were extracted following EPA 3050B method and extracts were analyzed using atomic absorption spectrophotometry technique. Furthermore, Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) test was conducted on selected samples to assess metal leachability in landfill conditions. Summary of results (mg/kg) for PCs and PWBs for MPs produced by OEM 1 and OEM 2 in brackets ranged thus: PCs, Pb: 5.00 –195 (LOD-1750), Cr: LOD-6050 (LOD-2170) and Cd: LOD-1.00 (LOD-5.75) while PWBs, Pb:129-9750 (5.00-12125), Cr: LOD-5488 (LOD-4000) and Cd: LOD-1.00 (0.25-1.00). There were no regular trends for all metals for both OEMs. Results suggest that a greater percentage of MPs produced till 2015 contained Pb and Cr higher than RoHS and TTLC limits. Furthermore, 50% of TCLP extracts contain Pb higher than EPA limit of 5 mg/L. Therefore, EoL MPs arising in Nigeria should be handled as hazardous materials.

The advancement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has great impact on students’ accessibility to information and different source materials. With the rapid development of modern science and technology, mobile devices have undergone massive changes and it has become so advanced that they can perform almost all the functions of a computer. Cell phones can be used for learning purposes. The present paper discusses possible future applications of cell phones for English language teaching and learning in Manipur University. The data was obtained from a set of questionnaires sent to selected students to find out their attitudes towards this mode of teaching English language. The analysis revealed that students use mobile phones to help them in their studies and they believe that integrating mobile phones in a language teaching gives the learners the opportunity of availing the benefits of digital age. They also believed that cell phones have great potential in language teaching and learning.

This article contributes to the history of “mobile media beyond mobile phones” by accounting for genres of portable computing (or “portables”) that emerged in the late 1980s. Though largely overlooked by historians of technology, these mobile, less-than-mobile, and relatively immobile devices helped shape the social and cultural uses of contemporary mobile communication. I argue that the technological capabilities of portables altered users’ expectations for how and where computers could be incorporated into daily life, be it near bodies, on hand, or at one’s fingertips. While the market for bulky portables dwindled by the late 1990s, as laptops and cell phones became more ubiquitous, these consumer electronics are nonetheless useful today for understanding the perpetual role of materiality and embodiment in how we conceive of the imagined affordances of mobile communication technologies.

The overuse of mobile phones by teenagers has become a common occurrence in our time. Therefore, this research aims to study the impact of cell phone addiction, cell phone cons, and the effect of applications on adolescent behaviors. This survey used the questionnaire to gather information from participants. The study targeted a group of male and female school students in Jeddah in the 14- 16 age group, who numbered 270. The study found that most students spend a lot of time on these apps or one of them: (Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook) without realizing the value of time wasted on these apps. The study also showed that Saudi teenagers use mobile phones and their applications to serve and develop hobbies. Despite the negative effects of mobile use such as sleep and insomnia, the sample praised its ability to control the use of mobile phones and that overuse does not reach the stage of addiction. The study recommends reducing the use of cell phones so that adolescents can hone and focus their skills. The study also recommends conducting qualitative studies to identify the quality of identities and how mobile devices contribute to the refinement and development of technical and technical hobbies.

In this chapter, the authors used the lens of COVID-19 to explore how mobile phones and general technological connectivity can be both a positive learning experience and contribute to connectivity fatigue and burnout for both teachers and students. The authors will reflect upon their own experiences and conversations as well as expand on the research regarding 24/7 accessibility in an online environment. The second author provides a particularly powerful voice in this chapter as a current pre-service teacher. His vignettes were used throughout the chapter to add a student perspective that is often omitted from the scholarship.

The possibility that using a cell phone could cause brain cancer first arose in the early 1990s and has been the subject of research since then. Radiofrequency waves used in cellular communications are far too weak to induce cancer by any known mechanism, and most scientific and regulatory bodies have found the evidence for health effects from use of mobile phones to be unconvincing. Nevertheless, positive results, largely from a single group of researchers, and an ambiguous assessment from single agency have kept the controversy alive. New studies are in progress.
