Our research aims to elucidate the factors that influence the terminological implantation of a term by proposing a new typology of those factors with a method revealing how their mechanism causes terminological variation in French-language ICT. We accomplish this through an analysis of four Francophone communities: France, Quebec, Belgium, and Switzerland. After establishing a new typology, which encompasses the terminological, socio-terminological, psycho-terminological, and extra-terminological factors, we propose a hypothetical model of their mechanism by introducing three statistical concepts—dependent, independent, and moderator variables—to elucidate these factors’ relationships. We verify our model in two steps. First, for the analysis of terminological and socio- terminological factors, we examine the relations between each factor and terminological implantation of 256 French ICT terms. For this, we begin by coding the terms according to a criterion established for each factor. We then carry out a correlation analysis with Spearman’s rank correlation. Second, we analyse the psycho-terminological and extra-terminological factors with statistical tests on the answers to our questionnaire, which show significant differences between these four linguistic communities. Our analysis confirms a significant difference between the three European countries and Quebec in the mechanism of the terminological implantation factors and we conclude that the psycho-terminological and extra-terminological factors play a decisive role in this difference, which we identify as diatopic.

Background: This study aims to investigate the correlation of VEGF-B and FLT-1 co-expression with the prognosis of gastric cancer (GC). Materials & methods: Primary GC samples and adjacent tissues were obtained from 96 patients. Results: Both VEGF-B and FLT-1 were testified to be upregulated in the human GC compared with adjacent tissues. Spearman’s rank correlation analysis indicated that VEGF-B and FLT-1 expression were correlated (r = 0.321, p = 0.0015). High VEGF-B and FLT-1 co-expression patients showed poor prognosis when compared with low VEGF-B and FLT-1 co-expression patients (p = 0.0169). Conclusion: The high co-expression of VEGF-B and FLT-1 in GC shows a poor prognosis of overall survival, and targeted therapy against the interaction between VEGF-B and FLT-1 is worth further detailed analysis.

Introduction: The Wisconsin Stone Quality of Life (WISQOL) questionnaire has been recently developed to objectively assess QOL in patients with urolithiasis. However, French version of the questionnaire was lacking. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to develop and validate the French version of this tool. Methods: The French version of the WISQOL (F-WISQOL) was developed in a multi-step process involving primary translation, back-translation and pilot testing amongst a group of patients (n=12). Urolithiasis patients from two tertiary care institutions were recruited into this study and completed 3 questionnaires: Perceived Stress Scale-10, medical history form and either the WISQOL or F-WISQOL. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach’s α and inter-domain associations were evaluated using Spearman’s rank correlation (r). One-way ANOVA was used to compare scores from the two groups (WISQOL and F-WISQOL). Results: A total of 210 patients were enrolled in this study; 68 in the WISQOL group and 148 in the F-WISQOL group. Internal consistency was high for all domains in both groups (F-WISQOL: 0.924-0.970; WISQOL: 0.888-0.965). No statistically significant difference was found between the two groups’ scores. Inter-domain association, measured by Spearman correlation, was moderate to very strong between all of the domains in the F-WISQOL. Values ranged from r=0.676-0.915, with acceptable correlation between D1, D2 and D3, but weaker correlation between D4 (vitality) and the 3 other domains r=0.676-0.729. Conclusions: In the present study, the French version of the WISQOL questionnaire (F-WISQOL) was validated at two academic institutions.

AimTo investigate the effect of the pasteurisation process on trace elements in donor breast milk.MethodPremature infants often receive donor breast milk when the mother is unable to produce sufficient breast milk. It is widely accepted that donor milk has considerable advantages over formula milk.1 The Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH) has a milk bank that receives milk donated by women which undergoes a pasteurisation process.2 This study investigated the effect of pasteurisation on a range of trace elements in donor milk.A total of 14 participants who donated to the milk bank were recruited in this study. A 2 ml sample was collected pre- and post- pasteurisation, and frozen at −80 °C. Post-natal age of the milk was documented. Inductively-coupled plasma mass-spectrometry was used to analyse the following trace elements – zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), selenium (Se), manganese (Mn), iodine (I), iron (Fe), molybdenum (Mo) and bromine (Br). The study received ethical approval from RBWH and The University of Queensland Ethics Committee.ResultsNo significant difference was found between the levels of any of the trace elements tested pre- and post-pasteurisation. The following p-values were calculated – Zn (0.82), Cu (0.80), Se (0.97), Mn (0.63), I (0.99), Fe (0.05), Mo (0.41), Br (0.59). The following ranges in mcg/L of trace elements were calculated – Zn (365.4–5460.0), Cu (157.6–820.5), Se (10.6–23.7), Mn (0.55–3.24), I (66.4–215.3), Fe (101.5–473.1), Mo (0.20–5.45), Br (704.9–3379.0). Spearman's rank correlation analysis showed significant correlations between post-natal age of milk and trace elements – Zn (ρ=−0.578), Se (ρ=−0.627). Fe (ρ=−0.704), and Mo (ρ=−0.534). No significant correlation was found for Cu, Mn, I, and Br.ConclusionThis study found that the pasteurisation process had minimal effect on trace element levels in donor breast milk. However, it was noted that there was a correlation between post-natal age of donor milk and Zn, Se, Fe and Mo. Further work is needed to establish factors that may influence levels of trace elements in donor milk such as post-natal age.

Introduction: Among the most complex restorative challenges for a dentist is that related to determine the occlusal vertical dimension (OVD). Objective methods of determining the OVD offers significant advantages because no radiographs or other special measuring devices are required. Previous review said that the OVD is similar to the pupil-rima oris distance among the population of India. The purpose of this study was to compare whether there was differences between the OVD and the pupil-rima oris distance among Sundanese population. Method: This study was an analytical cross sectional approach. A total of fifty Sundanese students of Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Padjadjaran who have fulfilled all criteria were chosen randomly to be measured the OVD and the pupil-rima oris distance. Result: Results showed that there was no significant difference between the OVD and the pupil-rima oris distance (α=5%). There were strong correlations between the OVD and the pupil-rima oris distance (p<0.05). An analysed with Spearman’s rank correlation statistic (α=5%) reveals that there was a significant difference between males and females in the OVD and the pupil-rima oris distance. Conclusion: Based on the analysed data, we can conclude that there wass no significant difference between the OVD and the pupil-rima oris distance, thus, the pupil-rima oris distance can be suggested as an objective method to determine the length of OVD in Sundanese population.

Introduction. While the importance of digital reading in modern education is constantly increasing, there are some knowledge gaps in investigating reading patterns (reading digital and print texts). There is still little scientific understanding of how Russian schoolchildren choose the medium of reading and how children assess their reading behavior in the digital environment. The purpose of the article is to reveal the factors that influence Russian schoolchildren’s choice of a reading medium, as well as the features of their self-evaluation of digital reading practices. Materials and Methods. To achieve the goal of the study we used the following methods: a questionnaire, statistical data processing, including t-test, correlation analysis using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient (rs) for ordinal variables and Pearson's coefficient (rp) for quantitative variables, comparative analysis based on the Mann-Whitney rank test for nonparametric data and ordinal scales, ANOVA. Results. During the research a questionnaire consisting of three blocks of questions was developed, tested and distributed among the target audience. 568 students of grades 5-11 from 54 regions of the Russian Federation took part in the survey. Correlation analysis of the data made it possible to reveal some factors which influence the Russian schoolchildren’s choice of the reading medium - digital or printed. Furthermore, the authors identified the features of schoolchildren’s subjective perception of digital reading and the factors determining this perception. Conclusions. The study identified factors which significantly affect the Russian children’s preference to read digitally: the type of text, the purpose of reading, the respondents’ age, their attitude to reading and the level of reading proficiency (according to self-report data). Children’s self-evaluation of digital reading showed that they identify both negative (increased fatigue, decreased interest in reading, etc.) and positive aspects of reading digital texts (efficiency of search reading). Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between dental aesthetics and self-esteem in adolescents. Methods: The sample was 387 randomly selected high school adolescents between 13 and 16 years of age. A clinical examination to evaluate dental aesthetics was conducted using the Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI). Self-esteem was assessed with the Rosenberg’s Self-esteem Scale. The statistical analysis included a descriptive analysis and means comparison, which was made through t-Student and ANOVA tests. DAI was correlated to Rosenberg’s Self-esteem Scale with Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient. The data collected was analyzed by using the SPSS program version 17. Results: The mean DAI score was 34.2 (SD=14.2) and self-esteem was 22.6 (SD=4.6). The low socioeconomic status (SES) group had the highest levels of DAI and the lowest levels of self-esteem. A weak, but statistically significant, negative correlation was found between DAI scores and Rosenberg’s self-esteem scale (r=-0.1, p<0.05). According to age, in adolescents aged sixteen there was a slight correlation with both variables (p>0.05). Regarding gender, in female individuals a negative weak correlation (r=-0.14, p<0.05) was observed. No statistically significant difference was shown among SES groups. Nevertheless, there was a positive slight correlation in the middle SES group (p>0.05). Conclusions: The outcomes generated by this investigation can improve our understanding of how the correlation between dental aesthetics and self-esteem may fluctuate because of the SES variability.

Hb A1c measurement is subject to interference by hemoglobin traits and this is dependent on the method used for determination. In this paper we studied the difference between Hb A1c measured by HPLC in hemoglobin traits and normal chromatograms. We also studied the correlation of Hb A1c with age. Hemoglobin analysis was carried out by high performance liquid chromatography. Spearman’s rank correlation was used to study correlation between A1c levels and age. Mann-WhitneyUtest was used to study the difference in Hb A1c between patients with normal hemoglobin and hemoglobin traits. A total of 431 patients were studied. There was positive correlation with age in patients with normal chromatograms only. No correlation was seen in Hb E trait or beta thalassemia trait. No significant difference in Hb A1c of patients with normal chromatograms and patients with hemoglobin traits was seen. There is no interference by abnormal hemoglobin in the detection of A1c by high performance liquid chromatography. This method cannot be used for detection of A1c in compound heterozygous and homozygous disorders.
