The tree monitors, Varanus (Hapturosaurus) are highly valued in international pet trade. These lizards are somewhat striking in their colouration, among which is the Blue tree monitor, Varanus macraei. Body colouration of this species is dominantly blue, which is unique to this monitor lizard species. This distinctive colouration together with its limited distribution has put the species as high-priced export commodity for at least 20 years. Because the lizard is endemic to Batanta Island and the nearby islets in the Raja Ampat Islands, Indonesia, we made a trip to the islands in 2019. We visited the village of Amdui on Batanta, where we made several casual interviews with hunters. Here we report results of our interviews and brief survey on the habitats of V. macraei, in order to identify the roles of local hunters in the trade of tree monitors for international pet markets. Some residents of Amdui have been in search for Blue tree monitors and other monitor lizard species since mid1990s and continue their hunt until very recently for fast cash. Because hunting is yet a large part of their culture more than farming, villagers rely on this method for subsistence. We recommend a socio-cultural approach to inform hunters on the idea of sustainability of harvest, for which a stable livelihood will be a possible consequence.

Environmental enrichment has been shown to enhance the behavioural repertoire and reduce the occurrence of abnormal behaviours, particularly in zoo-housed mammals. However, evidence of its effectiveness in reptiles is lacking. Previously, it was believed that reptiles lacked the cognitive sophistication to benefit from enrichment provision, but studies have demonstrated instances of improved longevity, physical condition and problem-solving behaviour as a result of enhancing husbandry routines. In this study, we evaluate the effectiveness of food- and scent-based enrichment for three varanid species (Komodo dragon, emerald tree monitor lizard and crocodile monitor). Scent piles, scent trails and hanging feeders resulted in a significant increase in exploratory behaviour, with engagement diminishing ≤330 min post provision. The provision of food- versus scent-based enrichment did not result in differences in enrichment engagement across the three species, suggesting that scent is just as effective in increasing natural behaviours. Enhancing the environment in which zoo animals reside is important for their health and wellbeing and also provides visitors with the opportunity to observe naturalistic behaviours. For little known and understudied species such as varanids, evidence of successful (and even unsuccessful) husbandry and management practice is vital for advancing best practice in the zoo industry.

This paper intends to see the extent of legal awareness of the community in the village area of the santri against family law derived from national legal products. The results of the study show two main points, first, the understanding of Islamic civil law (marriage and inheritance) of Mangkang region society is dominated to the accepted understanding of classical fiqh. The people of Mangkang region are not anti-starch against the civil law of Islam issued by the state in the form of positive law. Although the Mangkang area people see that both are ijtihadiyah products, but the existence of Indonesian civil law that has an administrative effect on others makes them accept a good denan. Second, a persuasive approach in the form of a cultural approach is more readily accepted by citizens. Mangkang area people feel comfortable when invited to dialogue and discussion related to Islamic civil law of Indonesia. In the end, by reaching the common point and the good that might be obtained, Indonesian civil law can be understood and well accepted.

Industrial deposits of basalt are located in the northwestern part of Rivne region and confined to Rivne tectonic fault and Volyn trap cover. Close deposits of basalt to the surface is observed in the basin of the Goryn River (on the gap between the village of Zlazne and Basaltove (the tract of Janov Dolyna), the neighborhood of Berestovets, Velykyi Mydsk (near the village of Mutvytzia), near the village of Rudnya) in Kostopil district, also in the Styr River basin (the neighborhood of Polytzi and Ivanchi (Rafalivskyy Quarry) in Volodymyrets district). Materials from field floristic research conducted over 2017-2018 were used for analysis. The research included areas of existing and produced basalt quarries, as well as an adjacent area of direct influence of 10-50 m width. Species of flora were included in the structure of the rare phytocomponent, listed in the third edition of the Red Book of Ukraine (2009) and also species that are subject to protection at the regional level. All identified rare species of flora were analyzed by category of rarity within the entire territory of Rivne region (4 categories of species were identified: very rare, rare, limited distribution, endangered). According to the results of the research, 4 species of flora from the Red Book of Ukraine (2009) and 18 species are under Rivne region protection. Among the Red List species, stable populations form Epipactis helleborine and Utricularia minor. Dactylorhiza incarnata and Atocion lithuanicum are represented by isolated generative individuals in the studied territory. By category of rarity, limited distribution and endangered species are presented. The rarest species, Primula elatior was found, there are 4 rare species (Gagea pratensis, Aquilegia vulgaris, Rosa mediata, Melittis sarmatica). 9 species are endangered, most of them are typical for reserves: Batrachium circinatum and Hippuris vulgaris. 4 species belong to the group of limited distribution. Phytososological interest in Rivne region is the findings of such species as Pyrola media, Scabiosa columbiana and Chamaenerion dodonaei. The gradual regeneration of natural vegetation after the termination of direct anthropic influence helps to distribute rare phytocomponents. Most of the rare species have a limited distribution, a small number and are often spread in the areas with a lower cenotic competition.

This article answers the question of how the form of revitalization of local wisdom in Aceh culture as the capital to resolve conflicts in the community. The important thing that will support this article is how Islamic ideas and Acehnese culture combine into one formulated from within, at least strengthening traditional institutions as the basis for managing Aceh culture is an important discourse to measure indicators of the ongoing settlement of Islamic conflicts. The results indicate that the re-actualization of Aceh culture which had been submerged by the conflict and tsunami, has now been revived especially on the social bases that were lost and even blurred. When there was a conflict in the Acehnese community, the mechanism for resolving conflicts was carried out using the Acehnese cultural approach known as Di’et, Sayam, Suloh, Peusijuek and Peumat Jaroe, involving Aceh traditional institutions at the village level, such as the geuchik (village headman), teungku imum and traditional leaders. This local wisdom in the discourse of the Aceh Government has reached the implementation of policies by making regional regulations through qanun to revitalize Aceh’s local wisdom by reviving some traditional institutions that have not been functioning.
