Health tourism is becoming more important as people are more concerned about their health. Meanwhile, traveling for healthcare and consuming medical tourism packages has increased significantly in the last decades. Moreover, many tourists travel abroad, with the intention of benefiting from quality treatments at lower prices, and sometimes benefiting from medical procedures which are unavailable in their home countries. Consequently, health and medical resorts make constant preparations to provide services conforming to the customers’ standards. In this article we present in a comparative perspective the case of two health resorts, i.e. Baile Felix (Romania) and Baladuc-les-Bains (France). Both resorts benefit from rich natural resources, especially thermal waters, but also accommodation and treatment facilities enabling them to provide high quality medical and tourism services.

The results indicate that quality management systems are applied in high rate, but requirements are not determined or applied precisely. Also important establishment is that wellness hotels take the necessary steps to shape up the inner and outer environment perfectly, but feedbacks and direct surveys of guests are missing in many cases. The modern phenomenon of tourism is more focused on specific forms of tourism in which sports and health tourism play a very important role. That fact is not surprising having in mind that they represent interconnected activities that complement each other and give each other completely new dimension. On one side, sports and health represent very important content of tourist offer because of the fact they enable tourists to become active participants in various activities, and on the other side, they represent important driving force for visiting particular destination. The idea of this chapter is to provide a theoretical and practical framework of this issue with a special focus on case study of Montenegro. According to the results of the research that was carried out, the general conclusion is that Montenegro has extremely valuable natural resources and potentials for the development of sports and health tourism, but there are still a lot of challenges that should be faced in the future in order to improve the quality of tourist offer and the level of tourists’ satisfaction as well as to create completely new image of the destination and position it as high-quality sports and health tourist destination on international market.

Health tourism in Hungary holds major opportunities. When analysing medical and wellness accommodation data, it can be stated that the Hungarian population is keenly interested in health-related tourism services. From the aspect of further development, health tourism based on medical services can be a take-off point for Hungarian tourism. In my opinion, the next few years will be crucial for Hungary’s ranking among health tourism destinations. The country’s initial circumstances are rather favourable, whereas the revaluation of the quality aspects of these services and the fact that the surrounding countries have also recognised the opportunities in health tourism led to an intensified competitive environment. Consequently, if Hungary does not take advantage of its current opportunities, there will be even less chance to develop the country into the primary thermal and medicinal waterbased health tourism destination of Europe in ten years. Yet, this is one of the foci of the objectives set out in the New Széchenyi Plan.
