Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, restrictions and guidelines are being enacted for the safety of the people, and generally, it has caused difficulties in the daily activities among students. Hence, this quantitative non-experimental study aimed to determine if emotional stability is a predictor of stress management among Senior High School students of the University of San Carlos in Cebu City, Philippines in the school year 2020-2021, who engage in a flexible online modality of learning. Adapted Likert-type survey tools were utilized to gather data online from 80 Grade 12 students who were selected through stratified non-proportionate random sampling. Results using linear regression analysis revealed a significant R and R2 value of .28 and .08(adjusted R2 was .07) respectively, which means highly significant F (1, 78) = 6.79, MSresidual = .31, p < .05 using a 95% level of confidence with a .39 standard error of the estimate from the population standard deviation of the residuals. This means that the independent variable emotional stability (ES) significantly and statistically affects the dependent variable stress management (SM). The modeled equation SM = 1.71 + .50 (ES) predicts that the higher the level of emotional stability, the higher the level of stress management. This implies that emotionally stable students are better at managing their stress. These results encouraged collaboration among the academic and administrative support services in every institution and stronger social support at home. This time, parental involvement plays a vital role in the holistic development and formation of every student.

The current study investigated resilience factors influencing the associations between binge drinking and measures of educational participation among Canadian youth. Self-reported data were collected during the 2016/2017 school year from 5238 students in Grades 9 through 12 (2744 females, 2494 males) attending 14 secondary schools in Ontario and British Columbia as part of the COMPASS study. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to determine relationships between binge drinking, school connectedness and flourishing on measures of educational participation. Binge drinking was associated with increased likelihood of skipping classes, going to class without completing homework, lower Math and English scores, and having educational and/or training expectations and aspirations beyond high school only. Decreased flourishing was linked to increased likelihood of going to class with incomplete homework, lower Math and English scores, and decreased likelihood of aspiring and expecting to achieve education and/or training beyond high school only. Increased school connectedness was associated with decreased likelihood of skipping classes and going to class with incomplete homework, higher Math and English scores, and increased the likelihood of aspiring to and expecting to achieve education and/or training beyond high school only. Lower flourishing was additive in its effect on current binge drinking in negatively impacting class attendance and homework completion and academic performance, while higher school connectedness was compensatory in its effect on these outcomes. This study suggests that, for high school students who are susceptible to binge drinking, those who are more connected to school and have a higher sense of wellbeing can maintain active participation in school and achieve their educational goals.

The present study examined the influence of personal standards and self-critical perfectionism on depressive and anxiety symptoms over the academic year. High-school students (N=174) were surveyed in the late Fall and early Spring, assessing perfectionism in the Fall and mental health across the year in both the Fall and Spring. Path modelling was used to examine whether self-critical and personal standards perfectionism were related to changes in mental health across the school year. Controlling for mental health at the start of the year, self-critical perfectionism predicted an increase in depressive symptoms over time, whereas personal standards perfectionism was unrelated to changes in mental health. Results support that self-critical perfectionism is detrimental to mental health in adolescents, suggesting that future interventions should focus on reducing self-critical cognitive biases in youth.

The lack of diversity among patent holders in the United States (1-3) is a topic that is being discussed by federal policymakers. Available data suggests that prolific patent holders and leading technology innovators are 88.3% male and nearly 94.3% Asian, Pacific Islander, or White, and half of the diversity that does exist is among those who are foreign born (3). The data shows that there is a need for greater diversity among patent holders. Few studies, however, are available to guide the work of educators creating learning opportunities to help young people from diverse backgrounds learn to invent. Educators must navigate issues that have complex sociocultural and historical dimensions (4), which shape the ideas of those surrounding them regarding who can invent, with whom, under what conditions, and for what purposes. In this paper, we report the results of an ongoing multimethod study of an invention education pro- gram that has worked with teachers and students in Grades 6 through 12 for the past 16 years. Findings stem from an analysis of end-of-year experience surveys and interview transcripts of six students (three young men and three young women) who participated in high school InvenTeams®. The data were used to investigate three topics: 1) ways high school students who have participated on an InvenTeam conceptualize the term "failure" and what it means to "learn from failure," 2) what supported and constrained the work of the three young women during their InvenTeams experience and the implications for policy makers concerned about the gender gap in patenting, and 3) ways the young men and young women took up (or didn't take up) the identity of "inventor" after working on a team that developed a working prototype of an invention during the previous school year.

Previous studies have found some risk factors of cyberbullying. However, little is known about how mother phubbing may influence adolescent cyberbullying, and the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying this relationship. “Phubbing,” which is a portmanteau of “phone” and “subbing,” refers to snubbing other people and focus on smartphones in social interactions. This study examined whether mother phubbing, which refers to being phubbed by one’s mother, would be positively related to adolescent cyberbullying, whether perceived mother acceptance would mediate the relationship between mother phubbing and adolescent cyberbullying, and whether emotional stability would moderate the pathways between mother phubbing and adolescent cyberbullying. The sample consisted of 4,213 Chinese senior high school students (mean age 16.41 years, SD = 0.77, 53% were female). Participants completed measurements regarding mother phubbing, cyberbullying, perceived mother acceptance, and emotional stability. The results indicated that mother phubbing was positively related to cyberbullying, which was mediated by perceived mother acceptance. Further, moderated mediation analyses showed that emotional stability moderated the direct path between mother phubbing and cyberbullying and the indirect path between mother phubbing and perceived mother acceptance. This study highlighted the harmful impact of mother phubbing on adolescents by showing a positive association between mother phubbing and adolescent cyberbullying, as well as the underlying mechanisms between mother phubbing and adolescent cyberbullying.

Objective: The present study aimed to predict academic motivation based on self-directed learning and information literacy. Methods: This was an applied and correlational study. The statistical population of the study includes all high school students in Ardabil City, Iran, in the academic year of 2018-2019. Of them, 360 students from the 11th and12th grades (180 girls and 180 boys) were selected by multistage cluster random sampling. To collect the necessary data, the Self-Directed Learning Scale, the Multidimensional Assessment of School Motivation, and the Information Literacy Assessment of Students were used. Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple linear regression analysis were employed to analyze the obtained data in SPSS v. 20. Results: The current research results signified a significant direct relationship between information literacy, self-directed learning, and academic motivation; information literacy also could predict academic motivation in the study subjects (P<0.01). This predictability was significant concerning self-directed learning. Conclusion: The obtained data indicated that self-directed learning skills training and improving information literacy were effective in students’ learning and academic motivation.

PurposeThe research surveyed the competency of information literacy of senior high school students in Fiji. This is to evaluate the strong predictors of information literacy.Design/methodology/approachThe study adopted a survey research design whereby a five-point Likert scale self-reporting questionnaire was administered to Year 12 and Year 13 secondary school students. The data were analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software-descriptive statistics of calculating the mean and standard deviation, a correlation and linear regression analysis to deduce the strong predictors of information literacy.FindingsThe study showed that 81% of the students surveyed were average to above average information literate. The strong predictors of information literacy were the ability of an individual to collaborate and share safely online, the ability to share files securely and the ability to access the credibility of any resource assessed on the digital platform.Research limitations/implicationsThe current study evaluates information literacy of a cohort – stating how information literate the participants are, comprehending the strong predicators of information literacy so that there is an appropriate and effective implementation of interventions for the desired improvements.Practical implicationsThe results can be used to improve information literacy of students at all levels of education in the Fiji Islands.Social implicationsIf the youths are information literate they will be able to effectively contribute towards the development of their economy. Since the work environment today is technology oriented and involves a lot of information, being information literate means knowing how to use the information and differentiate between good and bad information. Hence, contributing effectively towards whatever task is performed.Originality/valueThis research if the first ever research done on evaluating the information literacy of individuals in Fiji.

Bullying is a dangerous phenomenon that affects many modern students around the world. Bullying destructively affects a person regardless of the role (aggressor, observer, victim) and, despite measures to overcome, is present at school. Bullying (from the point of view of the contextual approach) is a social-group phenomenon that accompanies the development of a group with an unconstructive deformation of relationships in it. We conducted a research that reveals how Russian students are prone to bullying, how (taking into account gender and experience of it) are aware of its causes, who can stop bullying and whom they are ready to turn for help to if they become observers or victims of bullying. The results of the study showed that 46.8% of students felt oppressed during the school year (2018-2019). Students realize that the school class can stop bullying, but in a bullying situation they turn to parents, teachers, less to friends, do not mention the school class.

The aim of this study was to explore whether there has been an increase in prevalence and changes in sex ratio in feelings of gender dysphoria (GD) in an adolescent population in Northern Europe, and to study the impact of invalid responding on this topic. We replicated an earlier survey among junior high school students in Tampere, Finland. All first and second year students, aged 16–18, in the participating schools were invited to respond to an anonymous classroom survey on gender experience during the 2012–2013 school year and in the spring and autumn terms of 2017. Gender identity/GD was measured using the GIDYQ-A. A total of 318 male and 401 female youth participated in 2012–2013, and 326 male and 701 female youth in 2017. In the earlier survey, the GIDYQ-A scores, both among males and females, were strongly skewed toward a cis-gender experience with very narrow interquartile ranges. Of males, 2.2%, and of females, 0.5% nevertheless reported possibly clinically significant GD. The 2017 GIDYQ-A distribution was similarly skewed. The proportion of those reporting potentially clinically significant GD was 3.6% among males and 2.3% among females. Validity screening proved to have a considerable impact on conclusions. GD seems to have increased in prevalence in the adolescent population.

The present analysis examined grade point averages (GPA), subject-matter test scores, and attendance for 274 students enrolled in a high school at the beginning of the 1992–1993 school year by the number of hours worked per week in the previous year (1991–92) and in the current school year (1992–1993). The over-all outcomes indicated that working fewer than 10 hours per week had small adverse effects on each measure. Students working from 10 to 20 hours per week had lower grade point averages and attendance. Students working over 20 hours per week had depressed test scores and grade point averages and more absences than other students who worked less or did not work.

Th e purpose of the article is to fi nd possible prospective entrepreneurial roles and intentions of second degree students. In addition, it is being studied whether the future entrepreneurial roles and intentions of high school students are diff erent compared to the data obtained 10 years ago. Th e aim of this quantitative study is to fi nd out the following: <br/>1. What kinds of future entrepreneurial roles and intentions have second degree students now? <br/>2. What is the diff erence between the Finnish schools and the two Polish schools? <br/>3. Are there diff erences between the diff erent genders? <br/>4. What is the eff ect of role models, that is, fatherhood, motherhood and kinship / friendship with entrepreneurship? In addition, it is being studied <br/>5. Whether the future entrepreneurial roles and intentions of high school students are diff erent compared to the data obtained 10 years ago. Demographic factors include gender, school, entrepreneurial and non-entrepreneurial background, as well as entrepreneurship of a close relative / friendship circle. Th e study produces comparative data from two diff erent countries by comparing the entrepreneurial outlook. Th e material was collected in autumn 2014 by a co-meter Nevanperä (2003). Th e meter and its components have been tested several times: Nevanperä & Kansikas (2008) and (2009), Nevanperä (2014) and at the University of Eastern Finland and Vaasa In research sections C and D, a total of 39 claims (future entrepreneurial roles and intentions of students) were factored into fi ve factors to facilitate the processing of results. Th e Likert scale of 1-5 was used in the study. Th e reliables of variables (Cronbach alfas) were high except one (0.63-0.96). Th ere are a total of 324 respondents, of whom 100 are foreign. 38% of Finnish respondents are girls and 58% of foreign respondents are girls. Finnish students in the study are from 40 municipalities and cities in Finland. In the 2006-2007 survey Teuva high school had 21 respondents, Kopernikus high school 112 respondents and Evangelical high school 31 respondents. Polish students live in Cieszyn town, in southern Poland and in the surrounding Silesian province Th e study institutes are Suupohja Vocational Institute / Vocational College (92 respondents, 31% girls), Suupohja Vocational Institute / Commercial College (64 respondents, girls 47%), Suupohja Vocational Institute / Agricultural College (29 respondents, girls 18%). Teuva High School (39 respondents, 53% girls; year 2006 21 respondents, 5% girls), Polish Copernicus High School (61 respondents, 62% girls; year 2007 112, 52% girls) and Poland Evangelical High School (39 respondents, 51%; year 2007 31 respondents, 45% girls). Th e research data has been based on statistical means, deviations, meanings (variance analysis / ANOVA), linear regression analysis and t-test in University of Applied Sciences Seinäjoki. Th ere are considerable diff erences between educational institutions in attitudes towards future entrepreneurial roles and intentions. Th e future entrepreneurial roles and intentions of the Polish high school students are signifi cantly more positive than the roles and intentions of the Finnish high school students. Gender and entrepreneurship background explain most young people’s future entrepreneurial roles and intentions. Other background variables also seem to have an eff ect. Th e explanation for the family entrepreneur’s role and intention is the highest when considering the control variables. Th ese explain 19 % of the variation. Relatively, most explains the father’s entrepreneurial background and the second most gender (girl). Girls regard family business and continuing of the family business very signifi cantly less than boys. Father’s entrepreneurial attitude raises the mean very signifi cantly compared to other students. Mother’s entrepreneurial background also has an uplift ing eff ect. Subcontracting and business entrepreneurship are of interest to today’s high school students. However, there are no signifi cant diff erences between the reference years. Th e mean of family entrepreneurship in 2015 is almost signifi cantly higher than in 2006-2007. Also in the case of other analyzes, in which the results of comparisons was the data acquired in 2006-2007 and in 2015, interesting results were obtained, indicating changes that have occurred in the discussed area.
