Free radicals are one of the cause of various diseases. The use of synthetic antioxidant compounds could prevent the effect of the free radicals, however may cause adverse effects on the human body such as impaired liver, lung, intestinal and poisoning. Therefore antioxidant from natural resources needs to be developed. The purpose of this research was to determine the antioxidant activity and IC50 value of the ethanol extract of ganitri (Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxbs.) leaves. Ganitri leaf ethanol extract activity test was carried out using DPPH method with vitamin C as a standard. Antioxidant activity was determined as a decreas in the absorbance of DPPH at 517 nm wavelength after an addition of the extract with the concentrations of 20, 40, 80, and 100 ppm. The antioxidant acitivity measurement of the ganitri leaf extract showed that the linier regression equation obtained was y = 0.3669x + 29.546, r = 0.4573 while the IC50 value was 54,12 ppm. Based on the result, it is concluded that the ethanol extract of ganitri (Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb.) leaf showed was categorized as strong antioxidant.

The free radical is an unstable molecule because contains one or two unpaired electrons. The antioxidant substance is a simple way to decrease the illness caused by free radicals. Cawat hanoman (Bauhinia aculeata L.) was known to contain tannin components one of the benefits as an antioxidant. This research aims to determine the antioxidant activity of the B. aculeata stem tested by qualitatively used thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and quantitatively using the DPPH method. Bauhinia aculeata stem was extracted using a maceration extract method with 96% ethanol. Antioxidant activity test was done qualitatively by eluent of ethyl acetate : methanol : purified water (6 : 2 : 1) using TLC and quantitatively using the DPPH method. The result of antioxidant activity from 96% ethanol extract of B. aculeata stem qualitatively showed the presence of yellow spots on a purple background at TLC after syringed DPPH 0.5 mM and quantitative test that resulted in an IC50 of 21.862 g/mL. These results indicate that 96% ethanol extract of B. aculeata has very strong antioxidant activity.

The antioxidant activity test was conducted with the DPPH method and measuring the MDA concentration in mice blood. The antioxidant activity test with the DPPH results showed that the ethanol extract of horstail (Equisetum debile L.) had the antioxidant activity of IC50 which was 1.604 mg/mL or 1,604 ppm. The statistical analysis result of the MDA blood plasma in mice with various doses (125 mg/kgBM, 250 mg/kgBM, 375 mg/kgBM and 500 mg/kgBM) showed that the 500 mg/kgBM dose extract was able to reduce the MDA concentration in mice blood which given the most amount of exercise.

The research had been conducted of the isolation of flavonoid compounds from water hyacinth plants (Eichhornia crassipes) and antioxidant activity test by DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method. This research starts from maceration of water hyacinth with ethanol solvent. Ethanol extract was hydrolyzed with HCl. Flavonoid separation is carried out by column chromatography and preparative thin layer chromatography. The obtained isolates were analyzed by UV vis spectrophotometer and FTIR spectrophotometer. Antioxidant activity was carried out by DPPH method. Flavonoid isolates were obtained as heavy as 4.5 mg (0.006%). The results of the analysis of flavonoid isolates A4a with UV vis spectrophotometer appear at a wavelength of 368 nm (band I) and 260 nm (band II). The results of the analysis with FTIR shown that the isolates had functional groups O-H, aliphatic C-H, CH3, C =O, aromatic C = C, and C-O ether, it was suspected that flavonoid isolates had a basic structure of quercetin 7-methyl ether compounds. The results of antioxidant activity test of flavonoid isolates shown IC50 price of 254.66 mg / L

In the last decade, lichen has become a research interest related to exploring secondary metabolites compounds. Lichen is a unique organism and contains specific chemical compounds rarely found in other natural sources; one species is the lichen Teloschistes flavicans. The objective study explores the toxicity effects and antioxidants activity properties from lichen Teloschistes flavicans isolate. The isolation of secondary metabolites was carried out by extraction, separation, and purification by means of gravity column chromatography, thin-layer chromatography, and purity tests. Toxicity activity test used the Mayer method by looking at the LC50 value, while the antioxidant activity test used the DPPH method by looking at the IC50 value. The results of the isolation obtained a needle-shaped crystal with the name of the compound is 3-[1'-(2",3"-dihydroxy-phenyl)-propyl]-7-hydroxy-chroman-4-one and the molecular formula C18H18O5. The toxicity test showed that extract and isolate compounds have LC50 values of 9.38 and 162.18 µg/mL, indicating that the isolated compound was toxic. The antioxidant test showed that the extract and isolated compounds have antioxidant activity with IC50 values of 54.05 and 127.38. The results of these studies provide scientific development of natural compounds that have the potential to act as antioxidants for diseases in the human body.

The study about antioxidant activity test of coffee parasite leaves (Loranthus ferrugineus Roxb.) by 1,1-diphenyl-2-pikrilhidrazyl (DPPH) method has been done. The aim of this study was to determine the content and activity of secondary metabolites, flavonoids and antioxidant, which found in the coffee parasite leaves. Dry powder of parasite coffee leaves (Loranthus ferrugineus Roxb.) as much as 0.5 kg were macerated by 2 L of ethanol solvent at room temperature for 4 x 24 hours, then mixed and filtered. Ethanol filtrate was evaporated at 30-40°C by using a rotary evaporator to obtain the crude extract of coffee parasite leaves. The results of the phytochemical screening showed positively that the extract was containing alkaloid, flavonoids, saponins, tannins and steroid compounds. The results of the antioxidant activity test by using DPPH method was obtained that the amount of antioxidant activity of the samples of ethanol extract had a very strong antioxidant activity against radical DPPH 0.05 mM, with IC50 values was obtained 6.063 ppm. Whereas, for comparison of ascorbic acid was about 3.127 ppm.

Antioxidants are compounds that can delay, reduce, slow down or inhibit oxidation reactions from free radical reactions. Antioxidants donate electrons to unstable free radicals so that these free radicals can be neutralized to not interfere with the body's metabolic processes. Red seaweed Galaxaura rugosa has potential as an antioxidant. The study aimed to determine the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of red seaweed Galaxaura rugosa against DPPH free radicals based on the IC50 value. Phytochemical testing and determination of antioxidant activity were carried out using the DPPH method (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl), which was carried out quantitatively using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results of the phytochemical screening of red seaweed ethanol extract contained alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, and polyphenols and the IC50 value of red seaweed ethanol extract was 4.59 ppm, while the positive control for Vitamin C was 6.64 ppm. It was concluded that the ethanolic extract of red seaweed Galaxaura rugosa in the South Aceh District had high antioxidant potential, as evidenced by the small IC50 value of <50 µg/mL.Keywords: Antioxidants, Galauxara rugosa, phytochemicals, DPPH  ABSTRAKAktivitas antioksidan dari ekstrak etanol rumput laut merah Galaxaura rugosa Antioksidan merupakan senyawa yang mampu menunda, memperkecil, memperlambat atau menghambat reaksi oksidasi dari reaksi radikal bebas.
