The Relationship between Socio-Cultural Factors and Gender Disparity in Enrolment of Students in Public Mixed Day Secondary Schools in Kericho County, Kenya.

This study attempted to establish the relationship between socio-cultural factors and gender disparity in enrolment of students in mixed public day secondary schools in Kericho County, Kenya. The study was guided by Social Demand Theory. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The study targeted 124 mixed day secondary schools. The target population consisted of 124 principals and 9,418 students. Sampling techniques applied included purposive and systematic random sampling techniques. A sample size of the principals was determined using Kerlinger’s 30 per cent rule, whereas for the students Cochran formula was used. The sample size consisted of 38 principals and 384 students.  Data for the study was collected by the use of questionnaires. There exists a statistically significant relationship between Socio-Cultural factors and Gender Disparity (r=0.536; p<0.05). The study found out that, early pregnancies among girls had the highest mean score of 3.28, and this was followed by students' negative attitude towards education with a mean of 3.02.  This was followed by peer influence with a standard of 2.98. Parent's preference to educate a boy at the expense of a girl with a mean of 2.92. The study recommended that stakeholders and especially the county education ministry should develop and fund peer education programs through which they can outreach students from all over the county and encourage them to complete their secondary education cycle. Education providers and stakeholders should address early marriages, early pregnancies and domestic chores among girls to address gender disparity in enrolment.

This study attempted to examine the relationship between economic factors and gender disparity in enrolment of students in mixed public day secondary schools in Kericho County, Kenya. Social Demand Theory guided the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The study targeted 124 public mixed day secondary schools. The study revealed that there exists a statistically significant relationship between Economic Factors and Gender Disparity (r=0.768; p<0.05). From the findings, in connection with economic factors, it was established that child labour had the highest mean of 3.21 and therefore was the major factor related to gender disparity in enrollment. This was followed by parents' reluctance to pay fees due to the false notion of free education with a mean of 3.10. The study concluded that the government, through quality assurance and standards officers alongside local administration, should ensure that policies on child labour are well implemented. That child labour is not practised so that all school age going children irrespective of their gender attend school uninterrupted.

The purpose of the study was to establish the relationship between principal’s leadership behaviours and teacher’s job satisfaction in public secondary schools in Bungoma North Sub County, Bungoma County, Kenya. More specifically, the study sought to establish the relationship among four principal leadership behaviours: directive, participative, supportive and achievement oriented in relation to teacher job satisfaction. Path Goal model effectiveness formed the theoretical framework. Principal’s leadership behaviours formed the independent variable for the study while teacher’s job satisfaction, the dependent variable. The study adopted descriptive survey research approach. The unit sample of the study was all the 51 secondary schools in Bungoma North Sub County.  The target population comprised of all the 51 principals and 761 teachers in all the 51 secondary schools in Bungoma North Sub County. All the 51 Principals were purposively selected from the sampled schools as they were leaders in those schools. The actual sample size of 263 teachers was selected purposively, making the actual sample size of the study to be 314 respondents.  Data was collected using two sets of self-administered questionnaires. Spearman rho was used to determine the degree of relationship between principal’s leadership behaviours and teacher’s job satisfaction. The study concluded that directive, supportive, participative and achievement oriented leadership behaviours had a significant influence on teacher’s job satisfaction. Teachers also preferred directive leadership behaviours as opposed to principal’s achievement oriented leadership behaviours. The study recommended policy reforms on the action plans that influence job satisfaction of teachers

This study investigates the relationship between leadership style, and employees’ commitment among Dubai government servants. The main objective of this study is to determine the relationship between leadership styles and employees’ commitment at Dubai Immigration Department (DID). The study also aims to examine the mediating effects of communication in the relationship between leadership styles and employees’ commitment in DID. The target population of this study is 6000 employees working in DID. Thus, the sample size will be approximately 361. This research will use simple random sampling techniques.

Economic and social challenges have obliged many organizations to re-evaluate their manner and approach in maintaining sustainable relationships with their customers. It has been witnessed in most successful organizations that implementation of ethical practices in procurement has ensured customers get the best services. The paper’s objective is to establish the relationship between codes of conduct and procurement management. The study was guided by virtue ethical theory. Correlation research design was used with a target population of 1100 tendering committee in 220 public secondary schools. A sample size was 294 respondents was selected using stratified random sampling technique. Questionnaires were used to collect data. Descriptive and inferential methods were utilized for data analysis and presentation. The findings indicated that code of conduct had significant effect on procurement management (P=0.000<0.05). The study recommended that the schools should continuously review of procurement staff from breach of code of conduct to reduce fraud and corruption. Therefore, there is need to tighten internal control systems in detecting procurement corruption and fraud to ensure integrity in the process. From 2017, the government of Kenya aimed at attaining 100 percent transition rate of pupils from primary to secondary schools. In Laikipia West Sub-County whose primary schools are focused by the study, transition from primary to secondary schools averaged at 54.9% from 2008 to 2015. Cultural factors are highlighted in literature as to undermine transition of pupils from primary to secondary schools. The purpose of the study was to determine the extent to which cultural factors influence pupils’ transition from primary to secondary schools in Laikipia West Sub-county in Kenya. Using ex-post facto research design, data was collected using self-delivered questionnaire from a target population of 1064 respondents. The study was carried out on a randomly sampled population of 411 respondents, composed of 280 teachers and 131 PTA chairpersons in public primary schools in the area of study. Data was analyzed using simple regression at .05 alpha level. Findings from the study revealed that cultural factors were significantly influencing transition of pupils from primary to secondary schools (β= - .790) at 0.5 significance level. The study recommended that local leaders should organize for civic education in order to address the identified transition challenges so as to attain a 100% rate of progression to secondary schools.

This paper is a report of a study carried out to establish the relationship that existed between principals’ Perception towards computer application and the actual computer use by principals in public secondary schools in Kiambu County. Computer use in schools administration is a contemporary issue in the improvement of quality leadership in schools. The study was triggered by the need for effective leadership in schools which would lead to improved academic performance in Kiambu County, a county surrounding the Kenyan capital city of Nairobi.. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The target population for this study was 307 principals of public secondary schools in Kiambu County. The study sample comprised of 205 principals which translated to 67% of the target population. Simple randomand purposive sampling techniques were used in the selection of the respondents. A questionnaire was used for data collection. Relationship between the two variables under study was established by use of spearman rho. Descriptive statistics and Pearson’s Chi- square test of independence through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) were used to test the null hypotheses. The study found out that principal’s attitude towards use of computers influenced the use of computers among school principals. The study recommended that the MOE in collaboration TSC to mount regular ICT workshops to sensitize school principals on the need to use computers in school administration with a view of changing their attitudes towards computer use.

Purpose. Middle-aged males and females with diabetes are more likely to have poor physical (PH) and mental health (MH); however, there is limited research determining the relationship between MH and PH and routine check-up in diabetic middle-aged adults, especially by gender. The purpose of this study was to determine whether PH and MH status differ by routine check-up in middle-aged (age 45–64) adults with diabetes in the general population. Methods. This cross-sectional analysis used data from the 2017 BRFSS conducted by the CDC for adults aged 45–64 who reported having diabetes in Florida (N=1183), Kentucky (N=617), Maryland (N=731), New York (N=593), and Ohio (N=754). Multiple logistic regression by state and gender was used to determine the relationship between MH and PH status and routine check-up while controlling for health-related, socioeconomic, and demographic factors. Results. Across states, up to one-half reported good PH (32–50%), over one-half reported good MH (46–67%), and most reported having a routine check-up (87–93%). Adjusted analysis indicated that MH and PH were not significantly related to routine check-up, but both were inversely related to having diabetes plus two other health conditions. Conclusions. Overall, routine check-up was not related to good PH and MH in this target population; however, a number of health conditions were inversely related to good PH and MH status. In a primary care setting for this target population, there may be a low to moderate prevalence of good PH and MH and a high prevalence of having a routine check-up and having multiple health conditions. It is recommended to automatically screen this target population for PH, MH, other chronic conditions, and physical activity and treat concurrently.

Language is not as a communication tool, but also as a tool for human to think in an effort to understand the world. The use of language in people's lives is a part that is reflected as a result of culture including the culture of communication. Regarding the relationship between language and gender is never separated from cultural factors, because there are factors that cause the division of roles based on sex, because a language contains concepts, terms, and symbols that indicate appropriate behavior for men and women. This treatment is different due to social behavior and appears in language symbols. Gender in people's lives gives their respective roles, as cultural ideas that define different roles in both the public and domestic spheres. The view of the universalism of dichotomy between men and women originating from nature and culture, as well as differences in domestic and public roles has been aborted by ethnographic evidences, and at the same time opened up new facts that the dichotomy between men and women is relative.

The objective of the study was to determine the extent of ICT implementation and use in financial management of Secondary Schools in Kajiado County, Kenya. Descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. The target population for this study was the 61 public secondary schools’ principals, 1220 teachers, 610 students, 25 ICT teachers, 6 Sub-county Directors of Education in the 6 Sub-counties and 1 County Director of Education in Kajiado County. The study used 30% of the accessible population as sample size. The sample size for this study was 18 principals, 366 teachers, 8 ICT teachers,183 students, 2 Sub- county Directors of Education and 1 County Director of Education. This study used questionnaires, Observation schedules and interview schedule as tools for data collection. The questionnaires were administered to Principals, teachers and ICT coordinators while interview schedules were administered to the students, Sub-county Directors of Education and the County Director of Education. The pilot test was carried at the schools with similar characteristics to those sampled through random sampling. Instrument reliability was determined through test- retest method. Cronbach alpha was used to test the internal reliability of the measurement instrument. The study concluded that most of the public secondary schools in Kajiado County had not embraced ICT in various areas of administration. Based on the findings, the study recommends that proper technology should be put in place by purchasing of the required ICT facilities in schools to enhance management of schools using the current technology.

<p>The use of drama rehearsals as a tool for inculcating discipline among students had been investigated by a number of scholars and education practitioners on global, continental and regional levels. However notable that drama rehearsals as a tool for inculcating discipline could be overlooked as a result of its demands, such as time. Therefore, purpose of the study was to determine effectiveness of drama rehearsals as a strategy in the management of discipline in secondary schools in central region, Kenya. The study used descriptive survey design. The target population was 79 deputy principals, 79 drama teachers, and 1888 drama students and non-drama students in secondary school in Central Region, Kenya. Both the census technique and random sampling were used to get a representative sample size of 419 respondents. Data was collected from the respondents using pretested questionnaires and was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) and then interpreted. The study found that the relationship between drama rehearsals and management of discipline among secondary school students was significant. The study therefore recommended that there was need to for school administrators to facilitate more drama rehearsals in order to improve the levels of discipline among students.
