The purpose of this research is to describe the implementation of EMU (English Moslem Union) Approach in  developing  islamic  studies and English competence among the moslem students of Tidar University (UNTIDAR). EMU Approach is a way of developing Islamic studies as well as English competence. Through EMU, the students of UNTIDAR study Islam as well as English with Halaqoh model. Halaqoh is a term used in Islamic education. Halaqoh (circle) is used to describe a group  with about 8 or 10 persons who learn islamic studies regularly. One of them is as murrabi (teacher) and the others are as mutarabbi (students). This descriptive qualitative study  employed in-depth interviews, and on-site observation in collecting the data. Following Milles and Hubberman’s theory (1994), the writer analyzed the data through data reduction, data display, conclusion and verification. The triangulation was employed in checking the validity of the data. The results show that the implementation of EMU through Halaqoh model  is an effective way to develop Islamic studies and English competence of Tidar University students. It can be seen from two indicators.  The first, it can be seen from the students’ characters in terms of nature, attitude and habit.The second is from the students’ competence  in English through discussion activities.

This study aimed at describing the affixes: prefixes and suffixes of Balinese language spokenby Muslim people which belong to derivational and inflectional morpheme. This descriptive qualitativestudy involved 3 informants chosen based on a set criteria. The gained data were collected through observing,recording, and interviewing technique. The instruments in this study were classified into: maininstrument (the researcher) and secondary instruments (word list, observation sheet, digital recorder,and camera). The three processes in analyzing the data were data reduction, data display, and dataconclusion or verification. This study revealed nine prefixes and six suffixes of Balinese language spokenby Muslim people in Tegallinggah Village. The nine prefixes are classified into: 2 prefixes {mә} and{nǝŋ-} which belong only to derivational morpheme, 4 prefixes {ʌ}, {kә-}, {bә}, and {ә-}, belong only toinflectional morpheme, 3 prefixes {ŋǝ-}, {ŋ-}, and {m-} can belong to derivational and inflectional morpheme.Afterward, the six suffixes are classified into; there is no suffix which belong only to derivationalmorpheme, 4 suffixes {-ē}, {-ǝ}, {-ʌŋ}, and {-ɪn} belong only to inflectional morpheme, 2 suffixes {-ʌn},dan {-n} can belong to derivational and inflectional morpheme.Key Words: prefixes, suffixes, Balinese language, derivational morpheme, inflectional morpheme

Among Muslim communities, love of the Prophet Muhammad embodied in a religious tradition known as shalawāh tradition. Shalawāh is an expression of deep gratitude for the guidance to Muslims on the right path. Sufism that emphasizes reading Shalawāh of the Prophet Muhammad as dhikr primarily is Shalawāh Wāhidiyah. The main purpose of Shalawāh Wāhidiyah is to alleviate people from the shirk and return to the straight and true that by pleasing Allah. The focuses of this study are: (1) how do the precepts and values of Sufism in the Jamaat Shalawāh Wāhidiyah? (2)  How do the precepts and values are promoted and practiced by Jamaat Shalawāh Wāhidiyah? (3)  How does the experience of spirituality Jamaat Shalawāh Wāhidiyah? This study is a qualitative study by using a naturalistic paradigm and phenomenology approach. The data were collected by in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentary in the form of journals, magazines and so on. While the data analysis techniques include data reduction, presentation of data, the validity of the data and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that: (1) Shalawāh Wāhidiyah precepts include: a. li Allāh, bi Allāh; b. li al-RasÅ«l, bi al-RasÅ«l; c. li al-ghauts bi al-ghauts; d. yu'thÄ« kull dzÄ« ḥaqq; e. taqdÄ«m al-hamm tsumm al-hamm, fa al-fa’ tsumm al-fa'. The values contained in Shalawāh Wāhidiyah Sufism, among others: taubah, ikhlāsh, syukr, mahabbah. (2) Socialization Shalawāh Wāhidiyah precepts are done by 1. individual, 2. packaged in a formal form as mujāhadah nishf al-sanah and mujāhadah kubrā, 3. through dreams, 4. implemented in the form of books, magazines, newsletters, and CDs. While this practice Shalawāh Wāhidiyah carried out in different ways mujāhadah usbÅ«'iyyah, mujāhadah syahriyyah, mujāhadah rub’ al-sanah, mujāhadah nishf al-sanah, and so forth. This study aimed to investigate on how to optimize discussion technique. This is a descriptive qualitative study. The data gained through open ended interview and processed by using data reduction, display data, and conclusion drawing/verification. This study answered two research question. What is the students’ perception on how discussion will be effectively implemented? and What is the teachers’ perception on how discussion will be effectively implemented? The result shows that learning styles in discussion found to be important to consider on how the teacher should treat the students and what teaching technique is best to match their need. The standard of participating in discussion not only when students giving opinion it further whether the students pay attention in discussion. Not only the seating setting is important but also the number of students should be considered on how to implement better discussion class. Learning styles do affect what treatment should be given to the students. Teacher lack affection shows the ineffectiveness of the discussion. Therefore, discussion is considered to be effective if it meets some standards of its effectiveness.

This paper examines the supervision of the Inspectorate on the application of the principle of competitiveness in the management of government goods/services procurement. This research was conducted at the North Sulawesi Provincial Government. The essence of this paper aims to find out whether the Inspectorate has supervised the application of the principle of competitiveness in the management of procurement of goods/services to the North Sulawesi Provincial Government. The methodology used in this study is qualitative. The techniques and procedures for collecting data through in-depth interviews with a number of informants related to the application of the principle of competitiveness in the management of procurement of goods/services. Activities in the analysis include data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of this study indicate that the Inspectorate has been maximal enough to carry out supervision of the application of the principle of competitiveness in the procurement of goods/services in North Sulawesi Province.Keywords : Inspectorate, Competing, Management, Goods/Services

The study aimed to analyze how the language lexical interference of Mandailing Language on Indonesian language. The study conducted descriptive qualitative research as a research method. The subject of the study was the society at Sitamiang Baru, Padangsidimpuan. The techniques of collecting data were interview and recording. In addition, the data were analyzed based on Miles and Huberman in Sugiyono (2016: 338) who said that the steps of analyzing data are; 1) data reduction; 2) data display; 3) conclusion drawing/verification. The result of the study showed that Interference at group vocabulary level, i.e. lexical interference in the form of words basis and lexical interference in the form of repeat words. It means that the society tried to speak by using Indonesian language however, there are some interferences which make the language is interfered by Mandailing language.

The phenomenon of street children is a problem that needs to be dealt with a companion da’i at the Salvatore Surabaya shelter through a humanistic approach who goes straight of accompanying and invites a positive direction in shaping his self-concept. The purpose of this study is to describe the interpersonal communication of escorts and street children. This research is a descriptive qualitative study using observation techniques, in-depth interviews and data validity using source triangulation. The results of this study are that the assistant can be able to build openness with street children through interpersonal communication inviting to communicate with being guided, being approached to find out what is happening to street children, and empathize to feel like street children experience. Supporting attitude from the companion invites discussion and talks about the hobbies of street children. The positive attitude of interpersonal communication from the companion da’i with street children in interacting is also able to put themselves in the position of friends and parents.

This study aims to describe the principal's strategy in building the image of the school through religious character education in SDN Negeri Wonocationan 1. This research is a descriptive qualitative study, with data sources obtained through direct observation or observation, interviews with informants and documentation. The results showed that in improving the school's image the principal's strategy was to carry out activities in instilling the values ​​of religious character, it could be classified into three activities namely (1) integration in subjects. As seen in the BTQ program that can be carried out in Islamic education teaching, (2) habituation activities can be seen from the habits that are carried out every day at school, namely the implementation of Dhuha and Dzuhur prayer in congregation, reading Asmaul Husna every morning, wearing headscarves for female students from grade 1 to grade 6, refracting smiles, greetings and greetings. (3) The last activity is a school extracurricular which includes the implementation of Istigosah, BTQ and Hadrah Al-Banjari training.

One of the processes of word formation is reduplication which words or morphemes are repeated. This study focuses on reduplication in Jamee language. This descriptive qualitative study aims at finding out forms of reduplication and the meaning contained in the reduplication in Jamee. The data were collected through ethnographic interview by recording ten native speakers of the Jamee language who live in Labuhanhaji sub-district, South Aceh. They were chosen through purposive sampling. A total of 261 reduplication words were obtained during the interviews, and they were analysed using three stages; data reduction, data display and data verification. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that there are four types of reduplication in the Jamee language: full reduplication, partial reduplication, lexicalized reduplication, and affixed reduplication. The study also shows that reduplication in Jamee language can be in the forms of verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and pronominals. Despite previous studies show that there is no infix in the Jamee language, hence it does occur in this study even though it is rarely used in this language. It is assumed that it may have come into the language through the borrowing from Bahasa Indonesia.

Despite the abundant advantages of teacher's questions, teachers still do not gain any benefits from them as they face many challenges in posing them. However, teachers who pose questions as a part of the teaching-learning strategy in the class may gain different outputs. A descriptive qualitative study is carried out to find out the types of questions that dominantly posed by a teacher in the intensive listening course at an institute of Islamic studies in Ponorogo. A lecturer and her class took part as participants on the study. Class observations, videotape observation, and interviews were utilized to gather the data. The revised Bloom’s taxonomy process verbs, assessment and questioning strategies was employed to analyze the data. The finding shows that the lecturer spent 73.8 percent of her questions on remembering, 17.8 percent on the understanding level, 5.9 percent on analyzing, and 2.9 percent on the evaluating level. It indicates that her questions were dominated by a low level of thinking skill.

The purpose of this research is to describe the function of videotron as information media of Sidoarjo local government’s public relations. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Informants in this study is Sidoarjo local government’s public relations and five people of users Jl A Yani Sidoarjo. Data collection techniques used in this study are in-depth interviews (indepth interview), observation, and documentation. Data analysis developed by Miles and Hubberman includes data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the videotron function that is managed by Sidoarjo local government’s public relations is considered quite effective in assisting the performance and Sidoarjo local government’s public relations role as a communicator to convey all important information related to administration of Sidoarjo Local Government.
