EIGHT hundred Starbrow day-old broiler chicks were raised on deep litter on a commercial broiler starter ration. At the end of seven weeks the chicks were randomly and equally alloted to five experimental broiler finisher rations in which maize and gari constituted the main carbohydrate source in the proportions 58:0, 39:16, 29:24.5, 19:33 and 0.49% of ration, respectively. The protein source, groundnut cake, was varied accordingly such that the five rations were isonitrogenous and isocaloric. All other ingredients were mixed in the same amounts for all five rations which were balanced for essential nutrients. All chicks received ad libitum intake of feed and water from the eight week to the thirteenth week when the experiment was concluded. Feed consumption, growth rate, feed efficiency, dressed carcass percentage, liver Weight and abdominal fat percentage were used as parameters to evaluate the relative efficacy of the five ration treatments.  Birds on gari rations consumed 3.2% less feed on the average, than those on the Control maize ration, for nearly identical gains. Feed/gain ratio was, therefore, slightly lower for the gari treatments, the lowest value coming from the ration in which maize/gari ratio was 29%:24.5%. Average body weights, rate of gain and feed gain ratio were not significantly different. Variations in carcass and organoleptic measurements indicated no significant differences from dressed carcass percentage, liver weight percentage, tenderness, juiciness, colour or general acceptability. However, abdominal fat percentage was significantly [P<0.001] larger in the gari rations than the control maize ration. This value was highest in the ration that contained only gari as the major carbohydrate source. There was no significant difference in the iodine number of the abdominal fat of the five treatments.  The results of this study suggest that gari can replace all the maize in broiler finisher rations or constitute up to 49% of the whole ration, without any decrease in growth rate or carcass quality of broilers, provided such a ration is balanced for protein and amino acids. The best substitution level from this study appears to be at 50%, or 29% of the whole ration.

A feeding trial was conducted using 104 one week-old anak broilier chicks to evaluate the replacement value of shrimp waste meal (SWM) for fish meal (FM) in broiler diets. Fish meal contribution to the dietary crude protein of the brioiler dietsat was replaced with SWM 0, 33, 66 and 100% of graded levels. Weight gain and feedconverstion ratio were significantly (P > 0.05) reduced with SWM replacing FM at 100% at both the starter and finisher phases. No significant differences (P >0.05) were observed for feed consumption. mortality increased with an increased levle of SWM in the diet at the starter phase. Liver weight increased (P <0.05) with increased level of SWM significantly (P <0.05) increased the abdominal fat. Result of this present study show that the SWM could partially replace 66% of the crude protein of FM in broiler diets without negatively affecting performance or carcass quality

The experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of dried bloodrumen content mixture (DBRCM) on carcass characteristics of broiler chicks to replace soybean meal (SBM). A total of 225 unsexed day old broiler chicks (SASSO C44) were randomly distributed to five dietary treatment groups in a completely randomized design. Each treatment was replicated thrice with 15 birds per replicate. The experimental diets were formulated to contain 100%SBM+0%DBRCM (T1), 80%SBM+20% DBRCM (T2),60%SBM+ 40% DBRCM (T3), 40%SBM+60% DBRCM(T4) and 20%SBM+80% DBRCM (T5) in 56 days of age. At the end of the experiment, two male and two female birds per replicate were used to determine carcass characteristics. The result revealed that the edible carcass yield ranged from 977.9-1159.3g. The dressing percentage based on the edible carcass weight was 63.9 % (T1), 66.6 % (T2), 65.4 (T3), 64.2% (T4) and 63.1% (T5). There was no a significant difference (P>0.05) in both edible carcass yield and its dressing percentage. The commercial carcass weight was 937.4g (T1), 984.7g (T2), 962.0g (T3), 925.0g (T4) and 833.1g (T5) and the dressing percentage was 54.9%, 56.6%, 55.3%, 53.7% and 53.7% for T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5, respectively. Significant difference (P>0.05) was not observed in commercial carcass yield and its dressing percentage among the treatment groups. There was no a statistical marked difference (P>0.05) in total nonedible offal and edible offal. Females had more (P<0.05) breast meat than that of males. The abdominal fat and abdominal fat percentage were not significantly influenced (P>0.05) by a diet containing DBRCM. However, abdominal fat and its fat percentage were higher (P<0.05) in females than males. Based on this result, it could be concluded that DBRCM can replace soybean meal up to 80% substitution level without any adverse effect on carcass characteristics.

UTILIZATION OF ENSILAGE KEPOK BANANA PEELS REPLACING PART OF CORN IN THE DIET ON CARCASSES AND VISCERA INDICES OF BROILER. The purpose of the present research was to determine the substitution of corn with ensilage kepok banana peels (Musa paradisiaca formatypica) in the diet on  carcasses and viscera indices of broiler. Trial was arranged using an experimental study. Sixty unsexed Cobb day old Chicks (DOC) were used in a Completely Randomized Design arrangement, with 4 treatments and 5 replications. Treatments were formulated as follow: R0 = 50% yellow corn + 0% ensilage kepok banana peels, R1 = 42,5% yellow corn + 7,5% ensilage kepok banana peels, R2 = 35% yellow corn + 15% ensilage kepok banana peels, R3 = 27,5% yellow corn + 22.5% ensilage kepok banana peels. Parameters measured were: carcass weight (g), abdominal fat (%), liver weight (%), and gizzard weight (%). Research results showed that, the subtitution of yellow corn with ensilage kepok banana peels gave a significant different (P<0,05) effect on carcass weight, abdominal fat percentage, liver weight percentage, and gizzard weight percentage. The higher the ensilage kepok banana peels replacing corn in the diets, the lower the carcass weight and abdominal fat percentage, whereas liver weight percentage and gizzard weight percentage both decreased as the subtitution of ensilage kepok   banana    peels   increased.  Carcass percentage was the only parameter that was not affected (P>0,05) by treatments. It can be concluded that the utilization of ensilage kepok banana peels up to 30% or 15% can still substitute yellow corn in broiler diets.   Keywords : Broiler, Kepok Banana Peels, Carcasses, Viscera

THE EFFECT OF THE USE OF PAPAYA LEAVES SUBSTITUTED TO BASAL DIET ON THE PERCENTAGE OF CARCASS AND ABDOMINAL FAT PERCENTAGE OF BROILER CHICKEN. This study aims to determine the effect of papaya leaf meal substituted to basal diet on the carcass weight, percentage of carcass, and abdominal fat of broilers. This study used 80 unsexed broilers, day old chick (DOC). The experiment used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications. The arrangement of the experimental treatments was as follows: R₀ = 100% basal diet (BD), 0% papaya leaf meal (PLM), R₁ = 95% BD + 5% PLM, R₂ = 90% BD + 10% PLM, R₃ = 85% BD + 15% PLM. The results showed that partial replacement of the basal diet with with papaya leaf meal had no significant effect on carcass weight and the percentage of broiler abdominal fat. The treatment gave a very significant difference on the percentage of carcass. On carcass percentage results showed that R0 was highly significant different from R3 but not significantly different with R2 and R1. Treatment R1 was significantly different from R3 but not significantly different from R2, whereas between treatments R2 and R3 were significantly different. Based on the results of this study it can be stated that the use of papaya leaf meal up to level of 15% can produce a good proportion of carcass and abdominal fat. Keywords: broiler, papaya leaf meal, carcasses, abdominal fat.

This study aims to examine the use of red sweet potato flour on slaughter weight, percentage ofcarcass weight, and abdominal fat in broiler chickens fed with additional red sweet potato flour. Thisresearch was conducted in April to May 2018, housed in the Raman Farm enclosure in Puosu JayaVillage, Konda District, Konawe Selatan District. The material used in this study was 64 weeks oldbroiler chickens, with 64 feed ingredients used as the concentrate, corn, bean, sweet potato flour. Theequipment used is a scale, a colony cage made of wire-lined wood and measuring 4m x 2m, which isdivided into 16 plots and the size of each 1m x 0.5m, each story is equipped with a place to eat anddrink, 40-watt incandescent balloons and other equipment such as scales, ovens, sample grinders,basins, plastics, and gutters. This study was designed using a complete randomized design with fourtreatments and four replications, where four treatments consisted of P0 basic ration (Control), P1:basic ration containing 4% red sweet potato flour, P2: elemental percentage containing 6% red sweetpotato flour, and P3: basic ration contains 8% red sweet potato flour. The variables observed in thisstudy were cutting weight, carcass percentage, and abdominal fat of broiler chickens. The results ofthe analysis of variance showed that the administration of red sweet potato flour had no significanteffect (P> 0.05) on the percentage of carcasses and abdominal fat of broiler chickens. Broiler chickenaged five weeks. It was concluded that the provision of different red sweet potato flour in feed did notsignificantly affect slaughter weight, carcass weight, and abdominal fat percentage of broilerchickens. There is a tendency for broilers fed with red sweet potato flour to have heavier cut weights,a more significant portion of carcasses and an increase in the level of red yam, and a decrease inabdominal fat content and the addition of red yam levels in the feed.

A 5-week experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of qualitative feed restriction through the use low-quality diet on finisher broiler performance, and to determine if sufficient compensatory growth can be achieved at that phase of broiler production. Seventy two (72) 4 weeks old broiler chicks of Anak strain weighing of the average 1.0kg were randomly distributed into two groups, A and B, using completely randomized design. Each group was replicated 3 times with 12 broiler chicks per replicate and each replicate housed in a pen measuring 1.5 m x 2 m. Broilers in group A were given a standard broiler finisher diet continuously for 5 weeks while broilers in group B received a low-quality cheap diet based mainly on palm kernel cake and wheat offal for the first two weeks and then placed on the standard diet for the remaining three weeks of the trial. The birds were weighed at the beginning of the trial and weekly thereafter. At the end of the feeding trial, 4 birds were randomly selected from each group, weighed, sacrificed, de-feathered, eviscerated and their internal organs as well as the abdominal fat, weighed. There was no significant difference in feed intake between the groups (P>0.05) at the end of the trial but the group on the high fibre low-quality diet consumed significantly (P<0.05) more feed during the 2 weeks. Daily body weight gain of the birds on the low-quality diet was lower than that of their counterparts in the control diets in the first 2 weeks but remarkably and progressively increased up to the end of the feeding trial. There was, however, no significant difference between the groups (P>0.05) in the final body weights. There were no significant differences in internal organ weights of the groups (P>0.05). However, abdominal fat weight was significantly (P<0.05) reduced by qualitative feed restriction. Feed cost of production (N/kg weight gain) were N348.69 and N343.78 for the control and qualitative feed restricted groups, respectively. The results have shown that sufficient compensatory growth can be achieved in broiler production the period of production is just 5 weeks.

The residue originated from antibiotics and hormones had been thought to carry out adverse effects for the human who consume meat processed from the broilers treated by antibiotic feed additive. For this reason, using an alternative additive such as probiotic might produce healthier meat. The objective of the recent study was to evaluate administering different levels of probiotic yakult + tape yeast (YTy) into the mixing of rice bran + corn bran (RCB) to replace 30% of the commercial diet to carcass yield and abdominal fat of broilers. As many as 100 broiler chicks, Cobb strain, were reared up to 5 weeks in this study. The study was designed into a Completely Randomized Design with subsampling consisted of 5 treatments, 4 replications, and 2 sub samples. Broiler commercial diet with the market code of CP 511 Hi-provite manufactured by PT Charoen Pokphand was used for a positive control diet (P0+). The RCB feeds were mixed with 0, 10, 20, and 30 ml/kg of probiotic YTy then being used to replace 30% of the commercial diet to build experimental diets P0-, P1, P2, and P3, respectively. The results of the recent study indicated that administering 10‒30 ml/kg of probiotic YTy highly significantly (P<0.01) increased the weights of the whole carcass and carcass parts. The percentages of whole carcasses among P1, P2, and P3, however, were not statistically different. The percentage of the breast significantly (P<0.05) increased while the percentage of the back significantly (P<0.05) decreased. Although statistically not significant differences, the abdominal fat percentage tended to decline. In conclusion, administering a probiotic YTy in the diet increased the percentage of the whole carcass and tended to reduce the abdominal fat of the broiler.

ABSTRACT EFFECT OF SUBSTITUTION OF YELLOW CORN WITH BANANA (Musa paradisiaca) PEELS IN THE DIETS ON BROILER PEERFORMANCE. A study has been conducted to determine the effect of substitution of yellow corn with banana (Musa paradisiaca) peels in the diets on broiler performance. The present study used 60 broiler chicks and reared for 5 weeks. A Completely Randomized Design was used as an experimental design with 4 treatments and 5 replications. Treatments were formulated as follow: R0: diet without substitution of banana peels or 0% in the diet; R1: diet with the substitution of 7,5% or 4,28% in the diet; R2: diet with the substitution of 15,0% or 8,55% in the diet; and R3: diet with the substitution of 22,5% or 12,83% in the diet. Variables measured were: daily feed consumption, daily gain, and feed conversion. Research results showed that daily feed consumption, daily gain, and feed conversionratio were all significantly (P < 0,05) affected by treatments. Daily feed consumption at R3 significantly (P < 0,05) lower compared with R0 and R1 treatments, but no differences (P > 0,05) were observed  between R2 and R3. No significant (P > 0,05) was observed between R0 and R1, but there was a significant difference (P < 0,05) between R2 and R3 and between R1 and R2. Feed conversion ratio was significantly (P < 0,05) lower for R0 compared with R1, R2 and R3, but no differences (P > 0,05) were observed among R0, R1, and R2 treatments. It can be concluded that banana (Musaparadisiaca) peels meal can be used up to 15% replacing yellow corn or 8,55% in broiler diet. Abstract There is considerable interest in developing diets that maintain growth performance and market appeal for salmon aquaculture while relying less on fishmeal as a major ingredient. Here, we compared growth rate, survival, fat content, tissue colouration and carotenoid levels (astaxanthin) in Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) fed two diets. The first diet was a typical commercial salmon diet with 59% fishmeal content, while the second diet reduced the fishmeal content to 15% (75% reduction) and substituted 28% corn gluten meal and 16% poultry meal. Over an approximately 14-month growth period, we found no significant difference between fish fed the high fishmeal or low fishmeal diet in either growth rate or survival. Individuals fed the low fishmeal diet did have 25% higher total body fat percentage than those fed the high fishmeal diet. Individuals fed the low fishmeal diet also had flesh that was significantly less red than fish fed the high fishmeal diet. Carotenoid analysis confirmed that the change in tissue colour was the result of reduced astaxanthin levels in salmon fed the low fishmeal diet. Due to the importance of red tissue colour for the market appeal of salmon, the corn gluten and poultry meal diet is not viable for salmon aquaculture in its present formulation, but our results suggest further modifications to the diet that could mitigate this effect.

<p>A 56-day trial was conducted on 140 day-old broiler chicks fed graded levels of Alphamune G (0.00, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.05 and 0.06%) in a completely randomized design. Feed intake and weight gain were significantly influenced (P&lt;0.05) by the inclusion levels of Alphamune G. Bird fed 0.00% and 0.02% Alphamune had the highest and lowest feed intake, respectively. There was no significant difference in the feed intake, weight gain and feed to gain ratio of broiler birds fed 0.04 and 0.05% Alphamune G. Birds fed Alphamune at 0.04 and 0.05% had the best feed to gain ratio. Broiler chicks fed 0.04% of Alphamune G had the highest fibre, fat and ash retention (68.70, 77.46, and 59.88%, respectively). There was no significant difference (P&gt;0.05) in the carcass characteristics of birds fed different graded levels of Alphamune G. Haematological parameters show no significant difference among levels of Alphamune G. Serum biochemical values did not show any significant effect except for cholesterol, creatinine and uric acid. Alphamune G at 0.04% inclusion in diets may help improve performance of broiler chicken.</p>
