The ORDO review group was an influential German-speaking liberal school made up of outstanding economists. One of those leaders was Wilhelm Röpke, who did a critical review of the political economy development during the social policy period. Our aim is to show its advisability in order to reconsider the role of the state political economy at «the post-welfarist age». Röpkean thought is based on a humanistic approach to the economy, from which he criticized both paleoliberalism and socialism. Unlike other liberal and libertarian ideologists —Hayek, Mises, Rothbard or Hoppe—, Röpke is not against the public intervention in the economy, providing an alternative to the nineteenth century ideologies: the Third Way. Key words: Röpke, Ordoliberalism, Third Way, Human Economy. JEL Classification: A12, B29, B31, D60, P16.

Reforms in EU member states as well in Greek public sector are based upon the Refit system. Main purpose is the “catharsis” of Greek public sector in order to reduce the deficiency of General Government according to the MO’s programs. That caused redundancy, mobility, availability of the public servants. The main purpose is to regulate the state upon principles appropriate to the agreed objectives of Lisbon treaty that must be flexible. This kind of flexicurity is based on a highly competitive social market economy via the precarity system in order to diminish the economic crisis.

The theologian and Jesuit Priest Francisco Suárez had a remarkable intel- lectual influence in the turbulent England of the seventeenth century. His political philosophy, based on Classical and Christian concepts and principles on the com- munity, contrasts in this respect with that of social contractarians, like Hobbes, Locke or Rousseau, but at the same time it contributes, much earlier than these, to a theory of democratic government. The English liberalism of the late nineteenth century saw, like in Germany, a controversy between those who, like the Radicals, put the emphasis on the principles and moral values and those who supported a practical policy conditioned to the needs of the moment. In the context of this dis- pute, when at the beginning of the 20th century the new liberalism began to pre- vail, a group of English Catholic intellectuals claimed the figure of Francisco Suárez. Certain elements of his theory, such as the emphasis on the moral component of political relations or limitations on the competencies of the governing body of the community, were in line with radical liberal ideals, which were overcome by the expansion and increase of power and functions of the States. Keywords: Radicalism, William Cobbett, Hilaire Belloc, Francisco Suárez, XIX Century Liberalism. JEL classification: A13, B15, B25, N13, Z13.

The Swiss Armed Forces (SAF), as part of a democratic system, depends on legitimacy. Democracy, legitimacy and the public are closely connected. In the public sphere the SAF need to be visible; it is where they are controlled and legitimated by the citizens, as part of a deliberative discussion in which political decisions are communicatively negotiated. Considering this, the meaning of political communication, including the SAF’s communication, becomes obvious as it forms the most important basis for political legitimation processes. Social media provide a new way for the SAF to communicate and interact directly with the population. The SAF’s social media communication potentially brings it closer to the people and engages them in a dialogue. The SAF can become more transparent and social media communication may increase its reputation and legitimacy. To measure the effects of social media communication, a survey of the Swiss internet population was conducted. Based on this data, a structural equation model was defined, the effects of which substantiate the assumption that the SAF benefits from being on social media in terms of broadening its reach and increasing legitimacy values.

This chapter considers the complex relationship between secularization and the emergence of new religious movements. Drawing from countervailing research, some of which insists that new religious movements abet secularizing processes and some of which sees these movements as disproving the secularization thesis, the chapter presents the relationship as inherently unstable. To the extent that new religious movements maintain a precarious balance of familiarity and foreignness—remaining familiar enough to stretch the definitional boundaries of religion—they contribute to secularization. However, new religious movements frequently lean to one side or other of that median, either promoting religious power in the public square by identifying with the interests of existing religious groups, or emphasizing their distinctiveness from these groups and thus provoking aggressive public action by the antagonized religious mainstream. This chapter centres on an illustrative case from Christian Science history.
