A literary work reflects world vision of its writer, including the world of women. Pramoedya Ananta Toer participated to reveal the idealism of women’s resistance in revolution and reformation era through the characters of his story. Obtaining the world view of the writer toward women is important. This research aims to examine women’s resistance in the Revolution and Reformation era within 3 novels by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. This research uses qualitative method with content and sociological analysis model. The problems of the analysis are (1) the historic flaming in which Pramoedya Ananta Toer writes Larasati, MSBE, and PRdCM; and (2) world’s view of Pramoedya Ananta Toer toward women’s resistance in Larasati, MSBE, and PRdCM. To explain the world’s view of the writer, this research also applies Lucien Goldmann’s genetic structuralism. The objective of this research is to reveal the women’s resistance within three prominent characters who have fought in some different ways for justice in revolution and reformation era. This confirms that Pramoedya brings justice and gender equality in the world of women.

The subject of this research is the images of game and gamers. In the space of literary work, they are arrayed in metaphorical and often demonic raiment, receiving moral-ethical interpretation in one or another way. The problem of game and gamer in criticism was regarded by Y. Mann (“On the Concept of Game as a Literary Image”), V. V. Vinogradov (“Style of the Queen of Spades”), E. Dobin (“Ace and Queen”, A. Pushkin’s “The Queen of Spades”), R. Caillois (“Games and People”), British writer and researcher of online games R, Bartle, American scientist Nick Yee, and many others. However, juxtaposition of literature sources on the topic to the research in the field of computer games is conducted for the first time. The scientific novelty consists in the comprehensive examination of the psychological game of the gamer based on the material of Russian literature (A. S. Pushkin “The Queen of Spades”, V. V. Nabokov The Luzhin Defense”) , as well as the modern computer games practice, in which psychological type of the gamer found its realization and development in accordance with genre diversity. Even the Russian classical literature depict game as an autonomous space that encompasses the gamer, and often has devastating effect on their personality. The author also observes an important characterological trait of the gamer: the conceptual, “literal” perception of the world, which is based on the reception of visual images of the world against verbal. Therefore, the Russian literature alongside the research practice of modern videogames from different angles approach examination of the images of “game and gamer”, cognize the factors and consequences of the problems that emerge in this object field, as well as seek for their solution. The data acquired in the course of the conducted comparative analysis is mutually enriching.

In 1556, Robert Recorde (1510?-1558) provided the English reading public with the first significant reference to the heliocentric theories of Nicholas Copernicus. In a brief passage in his elementary text on astronomy,The Castle of Knowledge, Recorde introduced the fact that Copernicushathe renewed the opinion of Aristarchus Samius, andaffirmeth that the earthe not only moueth circularlyeabout his owne centre, but also may be, yea and is,continually out of the precise cētre of the world 38hundredth thousand miles:This statement, preceded by a review of other ancient astronomers who held similar views, and followed by a promise to the reader that the subject would be examined later in greater detail, constituted the complete reference to Copernicus and his theories. It was neither an endorsement nor a repudiation of the revolutionary theories advanced by Copernicus. Given his reputation as a competent and thorough scholar, one may legitimately ask, first, why did Recorde limit himself to such a short statement? and, second, how can his attitude toward the heliocentric theories be established with greater certainty? Because Recorde elected not to commit himself further inThe Castle of Knowledge, any discussion of his attitude toward the new theories must be based on indirect evidence. The point to be demonstrated is that Recorde was influenced by a particular philosophy that enabled him to view favorably the theories advanced in Copernicus's great work,De Revolutionibus Orbium Celestium. The first part of this study examines some probable causes for Recorde's reluctance to expand upon his reference to Copernicus, while the remainder examines his philosophical views.

In this essay I am aiming to sketch a context of my view of music, taking the form of a musically-inspired Weltanschauung [world view]. Confronted with “great” music of all types, I experience the particular ability of music to bring consciousness into a state of listening, attentive “passivity”, without the need for an explanation of what it is about. Afterwards, the thinking consciousness may rise to active reflection on the unique potential of meaning in music – so unlike anything else – and on the equally enigmatic resonant disposition in me that responds to music as an essential meaningful appeal. Although music has all the characteristics of its human origin and historical context, it may be considered as a spring welling from the very source of the world: Its potential of meaning is rooted deeper than human culture. Thus, music offers a confrontation with objective reality, not with something “staged” by our consciousness or, not to mention, by our brain. This musical confrontation with reality has led to my questioning the subjectivism of Kant and especially Fichte, and to an interest in Schelling’s philosophy of nature as a convincing refutation of subjectivistic epistemology. In the name of reality, I touch on the problematic interpretations and conclusions of neuroscience and brain research concerning self-perception. This sort of “philosophy”, where the very self (i.e. the “I” or the subject) is identified with the object studied, i.e. the brain itself. This view may also imply a reductionistic understanding of the experience of meaningful music as “staged” by the reward system of the brain.

The subject of this article is the problem of identity of the characters in the novel “In Search of the Primordial Land” by the regional Khanty writer Eremey Aipin. The goal is to describe the key vectors of reflections of the main characters on personal and national identity. The author aims to analyze the path of spiritual and social becoming, as well as finding true identity in the world and society of the protagonists of the novel — “man of the kin” Matvey Taishin and the hero “without kith or kin” Roman Romanov. The study leans on the interdisciplinary comprehensive approach, with the use of cultural-historical, typological, ethno-cultural, axiological and imagological methods of analysis. The scientific novelty lies in examination of the characters of the literary work from the perspective of their identity and identification. Analysis is conducted on the two ways of finding true identity by the characters in the small and big world. Path of “man of the kin” is the cognition of capabilities of staying in the world, strengthening of inviolable faith as the essential link in the chain of life, nature, Cosmos, and humanity. Path of the hero “without kith or kin” is a series of initiations (according to V. Y. Propp), as a result of which he gradually assimilates to the “earthly world”, having acquired the experience of merging with society. It is proven that solution of the questions on personal, social and national identity of the characters of the novel is interrelated with the author's traditionalistic worldview. The conclusion is made that in a crisis historical situation, the characters of the novel intuitively tilt towards ancient cultural memory of humanity, seeing its as a basis for reconstruction of identity.

There is no one ever doubts the quality of Kahlil Gibran as a poet or man of letters. His great name is the guarantee of his literature works’ quality. Almost every work, most of them are prose poetry, gain great success, and one of the indications is by translating into various languages in the world, including Indonesian. One of his most success works and receives international acknowledgment as well as his own admission as his best work is The Prophet. The Prophet includes many lessons bearing deconstruction values, which has been proven in this study. Deconstruction values within The Prophet is still inherent in each statement of its main character (Al Mustafa/Gibran) about topic concerning with many kinds of human problems, such as love, marriage, child, friendship, beauty, happiness, sadness, work, religion, and even death. In this study those values were contrasted or compared to various realities in form of text and social fenomena of the community in order to find their contradictions or similarities. This qualitative study used moral approach because its review material is intrinsic aspect of a literature works related to values. While the analysis technique used content analysis because it tried to disclose, understand, and catch the massage beneath the literature work. While the “knite” used to cut and disentangle its values is deconstruction. Deconstruction is an idea which strive to cope the world view which has been boxed all along within a normative understanding that this world consists of two opposing elements, such as rational-irrational, traditional- modern, logic-illogic, good-bad, man-women, and so on. Then deconstruction tries to look for gaps or alternatives between the two opposing elements. Thus, deconstruction is not always extreme in its meaning: confirm or nullify.

The literary work of the Russian writer Leonid Solovyov (1906-1962) was widely known in the Soviet period of the twentieth century - but only by means of the novel dilogy about Khoja Nasreddin. His other stories and essays were not included in the readers repertoire or the research focus. One of the reasons for this is that the writer was repressed by Stalinist regime due to his allegedly anti-Soviet activities. In the light of modern post-Orientalist studies, Solovyovs prose is relevant as a subcomponent of Russian Orientalism both in general sense and as its Soviet version. The Oriental stories series, which is the subject of this article, has never been the object of scientific research before. The authors of the article are engaged, in a broad sense, in identifying the features of Solovyovs Oriental poetics, and, narrowly, in revealing some patterns of the Central Asian picture of the world. In particular, the portraits of social and professional types, met by Solovyov there in 1920-1930, are presented. Some of them have sunk into oblivion, others can be found today, in the XXI century. Comparative, typological and cultural methods are used in the interdisciplinary context of the article.

The paper is an autobiographical account of the critical role that race and racism came to play in the writing of the book Taking the Group Seriously (1998) over 20 years ago. I will start out by telling you something about my history and early life experiences which eventually took me to the IGA in London to train as a group analyst. I will describe how and why I started to become increasingly preoccupied with the themes of race and racism which eventually led me to doing a PhD on the subject. As I delved deeper into the study I was faced with a number of theoretical and experiential difficulties. The engagement with these difficulties led to the critique of the world view that prevailed (and I would say, continues to prevail) in mainstream psychoanalysis and group analysis. I will use some of my experiences at the IGA from that time to make links with dynamics within the institution today.

The Number of Conferences, Books, Essays, and Anthologies Dedicated to the Topic of World Literature Amply Testifies to a growing interest in the subject among literary scholars. In one sense, this interest within literary studies is perfectly comprehensible. It corresponds to a profound sense of a shrinking globe in which once-distant cultures are put in ever-closer proximity. The thinking goes something like this: if the world is becoming one, mustn't the literature of that world, too? In essence, the idea of world literature is the affirmative answer to some such commonsensical question, never mind that all the evidence points to a more complicated reality. Despite all the falling walls and speeding planes and globally communicating technologies (which doubtless do shrink distances), the world does not seem to be becoming one and indeed remains as complexly riven today as it ever was. There is no need to rehash the multiple genealogies—most often traced back to Goethe through René Wellek, Erich Auerbach, and Karl Marx, sometimes with a brief detour to Rabindranath Tagore—that underlie contemporary notions of world literature. The books, essays, and anthologies I allude to above sufficiently provide these genealogies. I have written elsewhere about my skepticism regarding the intellectual and political viability of the world literature project, suggesting that the notion of world literature always, and to little advantage, produces a fixed notion of the world (Flesh xvii, 124-36). In contemporary versions of the world literature project, the world becomes a reductive enumeration of cultures that have produced “masterpieces,” or “great works,” deemed good enough to enter a global canon. I am mainly skeptical of the idea of world literature because of this reductive impulse: I don't believe the idea can ever avoid a problematic diminution of the world or of the literary work.
