With the developing technology, innovations have been started in many areas of life. New solutions based on technology have to be produced for new needs. The Internet has become an indispensable element of life with smartphones and mobile devices.  People can access information faster, less costly and independent of time and place by using mobile devices. As a requirement of the Internet era, many businesses support their business processes, services and products with their mobile applications. Academic institutions and publishers also need to keep up with this mobile transformation. In this study, a mobile application (QR-ticle) has been developed which provides reliable and fast access to the publication related to the references given in academic publications by using QR code. With this application, scientists will be able to create QR code for their own articles and will be able to access any of the articles by scanning the QR code.

Ear training aims to ensure the development of individuals receiving music education. There are mobile applications which music students can do hearing studies. The aim of this research; it is determining the content of ear training applications that can be accessed on the internet and downloaded to mobile devices to make a comparative analysis. In the research, 11 mobile applications with 100 thousand or more users were analyzed in terms of Turkish support, courses and ear training studies. As a result of the analyzes made, it was determined that in some applications, interval, scale and chord subjects were explained. It is comprehended that theoretical studies such as setting up defining intervals, scales and chords are included in the applications where ear training are carried out.In some applications, interval, scale, chord vocalization and playing exercises are additionally included. In line with these results; it is suggested to develop a mobile application in which the topics are arranged according to a curriculum, the exercises support the lectures, and the Turkish support is included. The number of mobile applications has been increasing rapidly in every field of life with the increasing use of smart devices. Smartphones and tablets make our lives easier with their properties and application they include. Minor or major accidents in traffic are always present in the daily life resulting in financial damage and loss of lives. There have been a number of studies done to speed up the processes to be done from the moment an accident happens. This study aims to enable people to perform all of the post-accident processes quickly and accurately with the use of mobile devices. In this way, papers and documents like photographs will be sent to the competent authorities without wasting time and effort. In addition, access to the road assistance needed will be quite easy. Explosive mobile applications (Apps) are proliferating with the popularity of mobile devices (e.g., smartphones, tablets). These Apps are developed to satisfy different function needs of users. Majority of existing App Stores have difficulty in recommending proper Apps for users. Therefore, it is of significance to recommend mobile Apps for users according to personal preference and various constraints of mobile devices (e.g., battery power). In this paper, we propose a mobile App recommendation framework by incorporating different requirements from users. We exploit modern portfolio theory (MPT) to combine the popularity of mobile Apps, personal preference, and mobile device constraints for mobile App recommendation. Based on this framework, we discuss the recommendation approaches by constraints of phone power and limited mobile data plan. Extensive evaluations show that the proposed mobile App recommendation framework can well adapt to power and network data plan constraints. It satisfies the user App preference and mobile device constraints.

This chapter explains the design and execution of a pre-service teacher training case study using Augmented Reality (AR), Quick Response (QR) codes, and social media mobile applications installed on iPads. The ScavengAR Hunt activity centered on a story narrative inspired by works of fine art using trigger images from the AR mobile application ARART® and incorporated elements of the board game Clue®. Pre-service teachers in the study were divided into groups of 4-6 and assigned specific, individual roles related to a mobile application used in the ScavengAR Hunt, and completed specific tasks while exploring the campus of a midwestern university. The research monitored the groups in real-time through reports submitted on Twitter and responses from QR code scans. The ScavengAR Hunt served as a model for designing a mobile learning activity incorporating multiple mobile applications.

This chapter will detail the use of mobile applications in libraries. It will begin by briefly exploring the history of mobile application development, its inception, and progress to its relevance and use within libraries as a means of improving access and resource delivery for patrons. The prevalence of mobile devices, both inside and outside of the library, has affected the way individuals locate and use information. Libraries play an essential role in delivering resources to enhance the way users retrieve information, and therefore it is important to facilitate learning and scholarship through meaningful experiences in a variety of areas and mediums. A mobile application, not just a mobile-friendly website, can appeal to an increasingly digital population of library users in an environment that is both familiar and modern.

Most modern students are ready to use mobile technology in the learning process, and understand the need to consider new opportunities for the best use of the potential of mobile devices and technologies. The solution of this task requires the introduction of mobile learning strategies, forms and methods in the educational process of universities. Currently, the development of mobile applications is one of the most popular tasks in the field of information technology. Applications can now analyze information from multiple sources and help the user make decisions, control processes, and solve other important tasks. This, in turn, helps to optimize business processes, increase productivity and efficiency of decisions. The article describes the process of designing and building a mobile application for teaching programming, software, content, and functionality.


This paper proposes a usability measurement forevaluating mobile applications. The measurement incorporates usability viewpoint of both, usability specialist and non-usability expert. The resulting usability measurements were validated through a survey of 113 industrial practitioners in Malaysia. Cronbach alpha of .952 reveals that the survey response is consistent and reliable. Hypothesis testing using a Chi-square goodness of fit indicates that the usability measurements were significantly feasible for real practice with p<.000.Mobile usability studies previously conceptualised usability from HCI perspective (e.g. usability attribute and heuristics), constraints and limitations of mobile devices. On the contrary, this paper characterise usability by integrating design features of mobile application through usability features, and quality attributes through usability criteria, in conceptualising apps usability dimension.

The applications of mobile devices are increasingly becoming computationally intensive while the computing capability of the user’s mobile device is limited. Traditional approaches offload the tasks of mobile applications to the remote cloud. However, the rapid growth of mobile devices has made it a challenge for the remote cloud to provide computing and storage capacities with low communication delays due to the fact that the remote cloud is geographically far away from mobile devices. Reducing the completion time of applications in mobile devices through the technical expending mobile cloudlets which are moving collocated with Access Points (APs) is necessary. To address the above issues, this paper proposes EACP-CA (Enhanced Adaptive Cloudlets Placement approach based on Covering Algorithm), an enhanced adaptive cloudlet placement approach for mobile applications in a given network area. We apply the CA (Covering Algorithm) to adaptively cluster the mobile devices based on their geographical locations, the aggregation regions of the mobile devices are identified, and the cloudlet destination locations are also confirmed according to the clustering centers. In addition, we can also obtain the traces between the original and destination locations of these mobile cloudlets. To increase the efficiency, we parallelize CA on Spark. Extensive experiments show that the proposed approach outperforms the existing approach in both effectiveness and efficiency.

The use of mobile devices with possible connection to the Internet is increasing tremendously. This mobility poses new challenges at various levels, including hardware, network services, and the development of applications. The user searches small and lightweight devices, easy to use, and with vast autonomy in terms of energy. She/He seeks also to connect the Internet “every time, everywhere”, possibly using different access technologies. Given the interface limitations, and processing capabilities of small mobile devices, the software and the operating system used must be necessarily adapted. This chapter overviews the mobility area, provides deep insight in the field, and presents the main existing problems. Mobility and the development of mobile applications are closed related. The advances in network mobility lead to different approaches in the mobile applications development. The chapter proposes a model for developing mobile applications, based on our research.

This situation has brought about many changes and developments when it is evaluated in terms of both businesses and consumers. Enterprises are using applications that will increase customer satisfaction and loyalty to be different from competitors, adopt in the market, interiorize a sustainable policy, and make more profit. Some technological applications will save customers time and increase satisfaction and loyalty in tourism enterprises and all other businesses. One of these applications is the use of QR codes.
