The effect of the Internet and e-commerce on industry competition has been widely discussed in economic-managerial literature. Most of the studies focused on the analysis of the impact of Internet technologies on specific industry structural factors – in particular on sectoral price levels –, but no sufficient empirical evidence based on overall industry change is yet available. The aim of this work is to analyze the influence of e-commerce on the transformation of the industrial structure and competition in a regulated market, that of Italian sports betting. This market, because the effect of a process of legalization of on-line sports betting that started in 2006, has been interested by a continuous shift of purchases of sport bets, ranging from the traditional sales channels to digital ones. This has contributed in creating an on-line gambling sector among the most developed and consolidated in the world. From a methodological point of view, firstly the data from a series of secondary sources was processed in order to examine the main changes in the Italian sports betting market induced by the legalization of on-line gambling. Secondly, the data and information collected through specific empirical investigations was used to examine the impact of Internet betting on gambling operators’ business models and on players’ gambling behavior in the Italian market. The results of the analysis has shown that the development of Internet technologies and of e-commerce has had, on the one hand, a positive influence on the growth of the sales in the Italian sports betting market; and on the other hand, has impacted on a series of structural factors in the sector – entry barriers, number of competitors, geographical opening of the market, levels of pricing, average profit margins – in such a way as to determine an increase in industry competition. In particular, use by foreign companies of the electronic distribution channel as a ‘mode of entry’ into different geographical markets is causing the development of competition that goes beyond national borders, reducing the strongly domestic oligopolistic structure that has always characterized the Italian sports betting industry.

The introduction of advanced technologies and new production paradigms has led an increasing number of manufacturing companies to adopt business models that include an integrated provision of products and services. This process is generally referred to as servitization. This article addresses two primary research questions: (a) How do the commodity sector, geographical location and company dimension affect the variety of services offered by manufacturing companies? (b) What is the impact of these structural factors on the type of services offered by manufacturing companies? To address these questions, this article provides new insights into the understanding of the servitization process. The main elements of originality of this study are (a) an unprecedented size of the analysed sample, composed of more than 190,000 manufacturing companies; (b) a quantitative analysis of the effects of the three aforementioned factors on the servitization process and (c) a definition of a pair of indicators for evaluating and benchmarking the strategic position of manufacturing companies with respect to their service provision.

Background: Many features of Internet gambling may impact problem severity, particularly for vulnerable populations (availability, anonymity, a convenience and ease of play, digital forms of payment, and a higher level of immersion). To prevent the risks associated with excessive gambling and to inform gamblers, we need responsible gambling strategies. Gambling-related warning messages are one possible strategy that can help minimizing gambling-related harm. Methods: Our experimental study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of self-appraisal and informative pop-up messages compared to a control condition (blank pop-up messages), for both at-risk (ARG) and low risk/non-problem Internet gamblers (LR/NPG) according to their favorite type of game, in a semi naturalistic setting and with a 15-day follow-up. During the experimental session, participants were invited to gamble on their favorite website with their own money in the laboratory. Effectiveness was investigated through the impact of pop-ups on gambling behavior (money wagered and time spent), craving, cognitive distortions, and gambling experience, taking into account message recall. We analyzed data from 58 participants, playing preferentially either to skill and chance bank games (sports betting, horse race betting) and skill and chance social games (poker). Results: We observed a significant decrease in the illusion of control for ARG in the informative pop-up condition at the 15-day follow-up. A significant effect of self-appraisal pop-ups compared to blank pop-up messages was also demonstrated only for sport and horse bettors, with a decrease on time spent gambling and an increase of gambling-related expectancies at the follow-up. Finally, we also observed that a majority of the participants were disturbed and irritated by pop-ups during their gambling session. Conclusions: The results of our study demonstrated the limited impact of pop-up warning messages on gambling behavior and cognition in Internet gamblers according to the type of game and the status of gamblers. The limited impact of warning messages on gambling behavior and the inconvenience of the pop-ups for Internet gamblers lead us to only consider warning messages as one piece of a larger responsible gambling strategy.Trial Registration Number: NCT01789580 on February 12, 2013.

The sports betting market has been growing rapidly over the last years, as have reports of problematic gambling behavior associated with sports. Due to high prevalence rates and well documented struggles of international stars, athletes have been highlighted as a group at-risk. However, there currently remains a lack of research on specific risk-factors or mechanisms. To examine the influence of two potential risk-factors (erroneous beliefs and emotional involvement) on sports betting behaviour and problems, 201 athletes with different levels of expertise completed an online questionnaire. Using principal components as well as regression analyses, we find that emotional involvement strongly predicts betting problems whereas erroneous beliefs do not. However, distorted cognitions / beliefs were associated with higher volumes and more frequent betting activities. This might contribute to betting problems in the long run. These results highlight athletes´ emotional involvement and erroneous beliefs as potential targets for future intervention and prevention efforts.

Efforts to improve are expected to minimize the damage to grapes during the distribution process. The aims of this study were to find out the number channel and the distribution of grape from farmers of Kalianget Village on Buleleng to Denpasar, to determine the handling of grape in distribution and to analysis the impact of postharvest repairs on grape damage from farmers of Kalianget Village on Buleleng to Denpasar with improvement treatment replacement and addition of packaging materials in the form of plastic containers, the addition of PE plastic films and pieces of paper. The method used to determine the distribution lines is the snowball sampling method in the form of surveys and interviews with the Commodity System Assessment Method (CSAM). There are four lines in the distribution, that is line I (Farmer-Middleman-Retailer-Consumer), line II (Farmer-Middleman-Restaurant-Consumer), line III (Farmers-Middleman-Wholesaler-Retailer-Consumer) and line IV (Farmer-Middleman-Wholesaler-Wine Industry-Consumer). Postharvest improvement was carried out on the distribution channel which have the most loss, namely on line I with a percentage of damage of 3.90%. Postharvest handling from the farmer to the retailer includes the process of harvesting, sorting, weighing, packaging, storage, distribution and displaying. The impact of handling postharvest loss of grape on the sorting process at the farm level is 1.81% (non significant), middleman level is 1.13% (non significant), wholesaler level is 2.41% (non significant) and retailer level is 8.36% (significant). Improvement efforts made can reduce the level of loss in grape. Replacement and addition of grape packaging materials in the form of PE plastic film, pieces of paper and the use of plastic container can reduce the percentage of damage which is 7.5%. Keywords : Grape, packaging, postharvest, CSAM, handling improvements

The aim of this study is to analyse, in the Italian sports betting sector, the impact of Internet gambling on the level of consumption of gambling products and the responsible gambling strategies adopted by the on line gambling operators. From the methodological viewpoint the research work has been organised into two phases. In the first phase, an empirical investigation has been carried out on a sample of Italian consumers directed towards measuring the impact that the use of the Internet has on the volume of bets made on sports events. In the second phase, an analytical work has been performed on the on line gambling websites of the main operators of the Italian sports betting market, directed towards examining the measures adopted for promoting responsible gambling. The results of the empirical research indicate, on the one hand, that in the Italian market, as has happened in other national gambling markets, the legalization of on line sports betting may determine an increase in the level of consumption of gambling products and, thus, in the potential risks of excessive gambling; and, on the other hand, that the normative approach adopted in the Italian gambling market, based on a ‘concession model’ which provides for a strong public control of the gambling operators, has favoured a widespread adoption by the on line betting companies of an articulated series of measures aimed towards harm minimisation in Internet gambling. Thus, the findings of this study contribute towards the economic-managerial literature on the theme of firms’ social responsibility by providing important insights for gambling firms and public policy makers regarding the responsible gambling strategies for Internet gambling adoptable in the markets, such as the Italian one, in which on line gambling is fully regulated.

The use of Customer Relationship Managers to foster customers loyalty has become one of the most common business strategies in the past years.  However, CRM solutions do not fill the abundance of happily ever-after relationships that business needs, and each client’s perception is different in the buying process.  Therefore, the experience must be precise, in order to extend the loyalty period of a customer as much as possible. One of the economic sectors in which CRM’s have improved this experience is retailing, where the personalized attention to the customer is a key factor.  However, brick and mortar experiences are not enough to be aware in how environmental changes could affect the industry trends in the long term.  A base unified theoretical framework must be taken into consideration, in order to develop an adaptable model for constructing or implementing CRMs into companies. Thanks to this approximation, the information is complemented, and the outcome will increment the quality in any Marketing/Sales initiative. The goal of this article is to explore the different factors grouped by three main domains within the impact of service quality, from a consumer’s perspective, in both on-line and off-line retailing sector.  Secondly, we plan to go a step further and extract base guidelines about previous analysis for designing CRM’s solutions focused on the loyalty of the customers for a specific retailing sector and its product: Sports Running Shoes.
