BURNOUT FROM A SOCIAL SCIENTIST’S PERSPECTIVE

Background: Sociology is concerned with the rules existing in a society for organising itself within a behavioral context, including the interpretative paradigms that members of the society use to define their rules. Accordingly, social phenomena are both “social facts” that need to be explained as well as components of the “world as constituted by meaning” that requires both understanding and interpretation. This also applies to burnout, whereby sociology can provide various different perspectives. Method: This article considers burnout from a sociological perspective. Results: Stress theories outline theoretical conditions that contribute to an increased likelihood of burnout. Analyses of the individual’s life course and interactions enable us to see how biographically, in everyday interactions as well as in institutional contexts, individuals under stress can evolve into “people with burnout.” These perspectives allow for the social function of talking about burnout and the phenomenon itself. In this vein, co-creation and self-organization of work processes, conceived initially as emancipatory, are generalized and revert to a demand on people in the sense of marketing themselves in everyday life as an entrepreneurial project in competition with other citizens. This permanent selforganization leads to chronic overload. The result is a social mood that can be characterized by the term “exhausted self” and can be understood as an expression of the crisis of developed capitalism. Discussion: From a sociological perspective, burnout is less a question of individual pathology than a challenging social configuration that may contribute toward a focus on resource-saving and sustainability; this includes a concrete utopian moment, a claim to self-realization in meaningful work, which should be taken up socially. This realization is controversial and requires social negotiation. Conclusion: Burnout is increasingly becoming an issue addressed by doctors, despite recognizing it having been taboo for a long time now. To counteract burnout, group work within circles so-called quality, interdisciplinary professional teams can strengthen the sense of coherence, support processes of empowerment, and professional development.

Halal Product Guarantee Act exists to ensure the protection of halal products consumed by Muslim consumers. Since it contains rules that only lead to protecting certain segments of society (Muslim consumers), this rule has become controversial. It is alleged to be potentially discriminatory. An argumentative and critical study shows that this is not factual. Apart from being legally tested, the social facts show that the regulation can be a means for the process of social inclusion: a process where people can respect each other’s communal rights, within the framework of authentic legal togetherness. The method employed is the analysis of legislation in a sociological perspective (sociological jurisprudence). The results of this study are through a series of juridical and sociological examinations, the Halal Product Guarantee Act can qualify as an integrative factor (social inclusion), in doing so it is expected to be an instrument of protecting people's rights (Muslim consumers' rights to get guaranteed halal products). Keywords: social inclusion, regulation, halal product guarantee, consumer protection.

Colonial officials and experts in Islamic studies such as Snouck Hurgronje and GF Pijper, testified that compared to other Muslims across Java , Muslim in Banten and Cirebon were stricter in practicing Islam . The phenomenon of the social life of the religious community in Banten is necessarily formed within a very long time span. This paper traces the root of the formation of public religious understanding ojMuslim in Banten. Using a socio-historical approach, this paper then leads to the conclusion that the sultan of Banten issued policies that had a greater emphasis to the adherence to the Shari'a rather than Sufism. This article focuses on “internationalization at home” (IaH) for education students in Swedish Universities and its significance for their professional formation and future practice. We draw on research in two large institutions and explore the perceptions and experiences of internationalization of home students in education. We find that while the “intercultural” understanding of students is well developed, the international and intercultural dimensions of experiencing IaH are limited, due to several institutional and learning environment contexts. This has consequences for the social dimensions of future teaching practice. In addition, the perception of the discipline as “national” is significant in shaping the outlook of students toward international questions and their own future personal and professional mobility. We contextualize these findings using documentary analysis and staff interviews, and argue that to achieve intercultural and international learning environments of quality, social relevance, and long-term social benefit, we need to rethink how internationalization perspectives are integrated in teacher education courses.

AbstractFor a long time, since China’s opening to the outside world in the late 1970s, admiration for foreign socioeconomic prosperity and quality of life characterized much of the Chinese society, which contributed to dissatisfaction with the country’s development and government and a large-scale exodus of students and emigrants to foreign countries. More recently, however, overestimating China’s standing and popularity in the world has become a more conspicuous feature of Chinese public opinion and the social backdrop of the country’s overreach in global affairs in the last few years. This essay discusses the effects of these misperceptions about the world, their potential sources, and the outcomes of correcting misperceptions. It concludes that while the world should get China right and not misinterpret China’s intentions and actions, China should also get the world right and have a more balanced understanding of its relationship with the world.

It is the purpose of this article to investigate the status of concession agreements in the light of the rules of international law bearing on the power of a state to nationalize property. It is a continuation of an earlier article which explored the nature and function of the concession agreement in the national and international economies. The first article rested on the assumption that legal rules could not be fully understood or evaluated without a fairly clear understanding of the social facts which they were designed to regulate.

The article is devoted to the consideration of such an object of interdisciplinary research as the elite, namely, the latest trends in its study. It is shown that the consideration of this phenomenon has been going on for a long time, but now there is a sharp change in the focus of research – a new methodology is being developed. This is due to the fact that the axiom taken is the provision of a significant influence of the elite not only on the distribution of resources (economic, political, administrative) but also on the development (or recession) of the nation as a whole. The article presents a detailed analysis of the methodology for measuring the elite quality index which formed the basis for an international study conducted in 2020.

The generation of black social gospel leaders who began their careers in the 1920s assumed the social justice politics and liberal theology of the social gospel from the beginning of their careers. Mordecai Johnson became the leading example by espousing racial justice militancy, Christian socialism, Gandhian revolutionary internationalism, and anti-anti-Communism as the long-time (and long embattled) president of Howard University
