In this paper there was made an attempt at determining more precisely the location of the four ?inhabited cities? (?????? ?????????) of Pagania, mentioned in the De administrando imperio of Constantine Porphyrogennetos: Mokron (?? ??????), Beroullia (?? ?????????), Ostrok (?? O?????) ? Slavinetza (? ??????????). Having considered the results previously established in historiography in connection to the issue, the author concludes that Mokron (Makr) was probably situated in the village of Makar beneath Mt. Biokovo, and that Beroullia (Vrulja) was identical with Vrulja near Podgora. Ostrok (Ostrog), in accordance with generally accepted oppinion, is to be located in the immediate vicinity of today?s Zaostrog, at the foot of the Mt. Viter, while, considering Slavinetza, it is assumed that it was situated in the region of the Bacina lakes, near the ruins of Sladinac, where are the remnants of the old Church of St Andrew, although the possibility that it should be searched for in the area of today?s Gradac, near the Slavinjac spring, mentioned in a description of Gradac from 1863, should not be excluded.

The article analyzes the local version of veneration of St. Stephen of Perm among the Nivshera’s Komi. The microlocal folklore tradition of the village Nischera (Komi Republic) is geographically far from the place of residence of the first bishop of Perm and the main area (Lower Vychegda and Vym) of the spread of traditions about a religious saint, who was called the “Zyryansky Apostle”. Meanwhile, the chapel (now lost) in honor of the saint and the saved life icon in the small village Rusanovskaya helped preserve the memory of a religious figure in popular culture. The post-temple life of the icon is amazing: relatives of the shrines who saved from death made a vow to hold home services. According to the established model in the Nivshera tradition off-temple services began to be held also before the reproduction of the icon Stefan Perm. The work attempted to compare scenarios and strategies for conducting home worship in two places. To some extent, the future of such practices will depend not only on the capabilities of the guardians of the icon and the presence of successors of this matter, but also on the socio-cultural situation of the village and interaction with the Orthodox Church. To some extent, the future of such practices will depend not only on the capabilities of the guardians of the icon and the presence of successors of this matter, but also on the socio-cultural situation of the village and interaction with the Orthodox Church. The cult veneration of Stefan Perm in the Nivshera folklore tradition is evidenced by recorded oral stories about a saint who visited the Vishera District, climbing a boat along the river, expelled rats for a long time, saved the village from fire, and provides general patronage to the village Rusanovskaya.

Opening ParagraphIn 1971–2 I undertook research in part of the very densely populated farming zone around Kano city (often called the Kano close-settled zone) in order to compare it with a Hausa village, Batagarawa, some 100 miles further north in Katsina Emirate, where I had lived and worked in 1967. At Batagarawa farmland is not scarce and members of the community are free to establish farms on uncultivated (bush) land, some of which is no further than a mile or so from the village. For some 30 to 40 miles or more around Kano city, on the other hand, there is little or no uncultivated bush and farmers with insufficient land are obliged to buy or to ‘borrow’ (aro) farmland from others. My purpose was to compare and contrast the socio-economic organization and economic conditions of farmers in the two localities, with special reference, in so far as this variable could be isolated, to population density.

Early stage glottic cancer can be successfully treated with open surgery, LASER surgery or radiotherapy. During this treatment the physician obviously has to bear in mind principles of oncological radicality, but also, none the less, the preservation of all the functions of the larynx, and especially the preservation of voice quality. The aim of the study is to compare, in a specifically designed prospective study, the method of treatment with the functional results of basic characteristics of spoken voice of patients with early stage cancer of the glottis region. Then, based on the analysis of the results, to try and determine the most successful method of treatment. The first study group consisted of 72 patients operated using transoral laser microsurgery; the second study group consisted of 75 patients operated using open surgery; and the third study group consisted of 74 patients treated with radiotherapy. The voice quality is much better after laser chordectomy compared to open surgery chordectomy with reconstruction. Furthermore, the functional results of voice quality, after a laser chordectomy, are worse when compared to the group of patients treated with radiotherapy. Taking into account all objective and subjective phoniatric parameters, we determined that there is no crucial difference in the voice quality of patients operated using laser chordectomy and patients primarily treated with radiotherapy. From a functional point of view these two methods are superior to open surgery chordectomy.

This paper presents a survey of LGBT attitudes towards the security sector in Serbia. During the five focus groups with LGBT persons, we determined the basic characteristics of police attitudes towards sexual minorities. By examining the relationship between the police and the sexual minorities, the author attempts to determine the institutional practice towards homosexuality. The study also notes the differences between respondents based on their status and the size of their place of residence. This paper looks at events such as the Pride Parade, which lead to the appearance of anti-gay factions and political conflicts.

This paper examines the historical, cultural, and biographical context of the work of the late UCLA psychoanalytic psychiatrist Robert J. Stoller, as narrated through the voice of anthropologist Gilbert Herdt, who worked with Stoller over a number of years as a postdoctoral fellow and then a junior colleague. The epistemological and professional goals of Stoller in opening up the field of psychoanalysis to the study of sexual excitement, human sexual variation, a radical revision of homosexuality dynamically, and especially the acceptance of divergent LGBT orientations is examined in the professional development and work of Stoller in the Department of Psychiatry at UCLA in the 1950s–1980s. The final section of the article examines the fieldwork collaboration of Stoller and Herdt in the context of Herdt's Papua New Guinea field site among the Sambia people, with whom he has been working since 1974. Stoller was instrumental not only in supporting LGBT analytic candidates, but in encouraging a more tolerant face-to-face inclusive attitude in research, education, mentoring, and the general Weltanschauung of psychiatry.
