Environmental sustainability and human resources education are two structural factors in the competitiveness of a tourist destination. The main objective of the current work is to discover how higher education in master and doctoral studies in Spain address aspects of environmental sustainability. The methodology used to attain the objective was the content analysis of 55 academic master's programmes (taught by 39 universities) and 7 doctoral programmes (taught by 18 universities) based on the documents published in the Legal Register of Universities, Colleges and University Qualifications (Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities) and on the websites of the universities. The obtained results demonstrate that, for the moment, the concept of environmental sustainability has a low impact on the curricula of master's degrees, research lines of the doctoral programmes and on doctoral dissertations presented over the last decade. It has also been noted that environmental sustainability is addressed without being inserted into comprehensive visions. Beyond a question of social and economic responsibility in relation to the use of natural resources, environmental sustainability is a key area for improvement in the framework of the tourism offerin many destinations to increase their competitiveness. It is, therefore, the responsibility of universities to educate their students in the development of techniques and skills that meet these needs of the sector and to instil them with an ethic of environmental values and respect for nature and the planet.

Preparation of undergraduates and privat-docents for professorship in the late XIX – early XX century is considered on the example of Moscow University through the prism of the biography of a historian and a jurist Sergei Andreevich Kotlyarevsky. The uniqueness of his example lies in the fact that he defended four dissertations: master’s and doctoral dissertations on foreign history and master’s and doctoral dissertations on public law. This demonstrates some individualism of the trajectory showing his professional development and formation as a scientist and a teacher. The research perspective includes the process of young scientists’ formation from the moment of continuing working at the university’s profile department to prepare a dissertation up to obtaining the degree. Attention is paid to socio-political circumstances and conditions affecting the possibility of becoming a professional scientist and teacher. Both formal and special features of the training scientific and teaching staff inherent in a particular scientific community are noted. The professional development of future scientists and teachers of higher education was associated with active preparation for the defense of the master’s exam, the first teaching experience, scientific and research work. The best graduates were left at the departments with the support of leading university professors who saw new forces and future professionals in them. However, the personal contribution of the applicants themselves was important, since they were required to reveal their intellectual potential, pedagogical and research skills. At this, an important aspect was the opportunity to go on foreign business trips, in which not only the material of scientific research was collected, but knowledge was enriched as well, including getting to know the peculiarities of teaching in European countries and their socio-political life. The preparation process was completed with the public defense of the master’s dissertation and awarding a master’s degree. At the same time, the path to the teaching environment began, which required further disclosure of scientific potential and the defense of a doctoral dissertation in order to obtain a professorship.

It can be concluded that there are positive benefits felt by the local community in the form of opening opportunities to open businesses that can improve the economic level of encouraging people to be more active in doing business and developing tourism in the region.

People are now paying more interest on healthy products from organic agriculture especially for food crops. Organic agriculture system based on ecological concern which enhances biodiversity, biological cycles of the land. This interest is now moving to nonfood crops, such as cotton that need high concentration of pesticide and fertilizer for its production. Developing organic cotton requires strictly standard and condition, such as no synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides, or detail documents to get organic sertificate. Although, price of organic cotton fiber is higher, but its production is lower compared to conventional one. However, there are still significant advantages in developing organic cotton, i.e. environmental improvements: from soil ferti-lities, microbial activities, biological cycles to promoting biodiversity. At the moment, the need of cotton fiber is mainly from import, on the other side organic cotton productivity tends to low. Hence, development of or-ganic cotton is not priority, yet biological and environmental sustainability ask for attention. Another alterna-tive choice which more practicable to develop cotton in Indonesia is a sustainable and ecofriendly with low input agricultural system.

History of the Department of World Literature of H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University dates back to 1805 – from the day the Pedagogical Institute was founded in the structure ofKharkovUniversity. It existed for more than a hundred years as part of the institute as a department of Russian literature. After the revolution of 1917, when the Kharkov Institute of Public Education was created, from 1924 to 1934 the department was headed by an outstanding scientist and literary critic then professor, and later academician Alexander Ivanovich Beletsky. The authors of the article pay special attention to the school of acad. A.I. Beletsky, who, with his many years of scientific and pedagogical activity, laid a solid foundation in the development of the science of literature inUkrainefor many decades to come. The authors connect the new, modern, stage in the research work of the department, in the activities of cathedral scientific schools with the beginning of the 1990s, when the so-called “perestroika” and the processes of democratization and publicity associated with it began, and when the university was created as much as possible favorable conditions for research work. It was then that a new generation of scientists and teachers came to the department, new leaders and new scientific schools appeared. This new stage in the history of the department is associated with the fruitful scientific, pedagogical and research activities of such scientists and their scientific schools, as Doctor of Philosophy, prof.
