Preparation of undergraduates and privat-docents for professorship in the late XIX – early XX century is considered on the example of Moscow University through the prism of the biography of a historian and a jurist Sergei Andreevich Kotlyarevsky. The uniqueness of his example lies in the fact that he defended four dissertations: master’s and doctoral dissertations on foreign history and master’s and doctoral dissertations on public law. This demonstrates some individualism of the trajectory showing his professional development and formation as a scientist and a teacher. The research perspective includes the process of young scientists’ formation from the moment of continuing working at the university’s profile department to prepare a dissertation up to obtaining the degree. Attention is paid to socio-political circumstances and conditions affecting the possibility of becoming a professional scientist and teacher. Both formal and special features of the training scientific and teaching staff inherent in a particular scientific community are noted. The professional development of future scientists and teachers of higher education was associated with active preparation for the defense of the master’s exam, the first teaching experience, scientific and research work. The best graduates were left at the departments with the support of leading university professors who saw new forces and future professionals in them. However, the personal contribution of the applicants themselves was important, since they were required to reveal their intellectual potential, pedagogical and research skills. At this, an important aspect was the opportunity to go on foreign business trips, in which not only the material of scientific research was collected, but knowledge was enriched as well, including getting to know the peculiarities of teaching in European countries and their socio-political life. The preparation process was completed with the public defense of the master’s dissertation and awarding a master’s degree. At the same time, the path to the teaching environment began, which required further disclosure of scientific potential and the defense of a doctoral dissertation in order to obtain a professorship.

Российская гуманитарная деятельность периода Гражданской войны на территориях, подконтрольных антибольшевистским режимам, является крайне малоизученной областью отечественной исторической науки. Заполнению этой лакуны и посвящена настоящая статья. В отечественной историографии до сих пор отсутствует специальный труд на указанную тему. Отдельные исследователи, обращавшие на неё внимание в своих публикациях, часто делали это фрагментарно, попутно с решением других научных задач. Наиболее исследованной она оказалась в изысканиях уральских и сибирских учёных, занимавшихся научной работой в региональных архивах, в которых сохранился значительный массив необходимых источников. Другой источниковой базой для изучения российской гуманитарной деятельности стал Государственный архив Российской Федерации, располагающий корпусом документов из состава Пражского архива документальной коллекции Русского заграничного исторического архива в Праге, переданного нашей стране в 1945 г. Внимательное рассмотрение вопроса показало, что в условиях деградации государственных и муниципальных институтов, развала политической жизни, острого гражданского конфликта, экономического кризиса, охватившего всю территорию бывшей Российской Империи, дефицита предметов первой необходимости и продуктов питания российская гуманитарная деятельность не только не была свернута, но и пережила на коротком отрезке времени расцвет, поэтому формирование историографической основы дальнейших исследований является для нас сегодня актуальной задачей.Russian humanitarian activity during the Civil War in the territories controlled by the antiBolshevik regimes is an extremely poorly studied area of Russian historical science. The article is devoted to the study of historiography of this problem and aims to outline the main directions in which scientific thought has been moving in the study of this littleknown area. At the same time, publications containing significant factual distortions of the events that took place in Russia appeared in foreign historiography, either not noticing the processes of selforganization of Russian civil society in the humanitarian field, or reducing all Russian humanitarian activities during the Civil War to the policy of Western powers. As for the national historiography, there is still no special work on this topic. Individual researchers who drew attention to the problem of humanitarian activities in their publications often did so in fragments, along with solving other scientific problems. The most studied area of public life during the Civil War was described by the Ural and Siberian scholars who did research in local regional archives which preserved a significant array of sources on this problem. Russian scholars working in regional archives managed to recreate the dramatic history of the civil societys participation in the rescue and preservation of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage, which was exposed to the risk of an irreparable loss in the conditions of civil confrontation. Another source base for the study of Russian humanitarian activities is the State Archive of the Russian Federation, which stores a body of documents from the Prague Archive, a documentary collection of Russian foreign historical archive in Prague, transferred to our country in 1945. In the conditions of the degradation of state and municipal institutions, the collapse of the political life and the acute civil conflict, the tasks of maintaining public life, providing assistance to the needy, preserving culture and education were largely assumed by civil society. In the context of the economic crisis that engulfed the entire territory of the former Russian Empire, the shortage of the most necessary funds, basic necessities and food, the Russian humanitarian activity was not curtailed, but flourished for a short period of time. Therefore, the formation of the historiographic basis for further research is an urgent task: at the moment, there is no generalizing research work that systematizes the literature on these issues in the domestic historiography.

The Qatari government views English language learning as crucial to the country’s future success. Anecdotal evidence suggests, however, that English language teachers (ELTs) employed in Qatar may not necessarily have the appropriate training, qualifications, and experience to enable them to teach successfully. Despite growing research and interest in the continuing professional development (CPD) experiences and needs of ELTs in Western contexts, there remains a lack of research in Middle Eastern countries in general and in Qatar in particular. The aim of this study was to address this gap by exploring female ELTs’ perceptions and experiences of CPD in Qatar in order to develop new practical and theoretical insights into our understanding of this area. The study draws on data from life history interviews undertaken with 16 female ELTs with at least 3 years of teaching experience in Qatari schools. The study found that the participants had very different experiences of CPD based on their personal and professional characteristics. This suggests that for it to be perceived as a positive experience, the current model of professional development for ELTs may need revising. We propose a paradigm shift from a traditional “one size fits all” CPD model towards a more dynamic and interactive style of teacher development that facilitates both personal reflection and professional discourse among teachers. It is argued that such a shift would prove a considerable step forward for English language teaching in this country.

The article put attention on the need for a methodological collaboration analysis of the academic and modern types of teaching sculpture in the specialized creative colleges and universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the modern educational and aesthetic discourse. The main research problem focuses on identifying and characterizing the most relevant educational theoretical and practical methods that can significantly increase the level of domestic art education in the art of sculpture. The author believes that a comprehensive scientific analysis of the educational potential of the Kazakhstani aesthetic originality of modern sculpture, its history and technical and technological features will give a possibility to understand deeply and see the big picture of the art education role in the general socio-cultural canvas of sovereign Kazakhstan. At the moment, the Kazakhstani art education system is on a peripeteia and it is necessary to clear the choice between academic and contemporary art practices or their harmonious synthesis. This work is devoted to these question’s analysis and the author's research work disclosure.

The popularity of Korean pop culture in the world can be considered an exceptional phenomenon of 2020. One should note that processes reflecting the effective interaction of state structures with the spheres of the creative industry in the modern economy have a special scientific potential at the moment. These creative industry spheres include art, cinema, animation, music, game development and software products. The most successful case in this area is the developed system of cultural media export in South Korea. Research into the economic opportunities of creative industries as a new stage in modern society is becoming a practically significant way to solve the problems of increasing the country's economic power in the Digital Age. The experience of South Korea is still insufficiently covered in Russian research. The practical significance of research in this field is associated with the study of the use of cultural products as a tool for economic growth.

The radicalization of Islam in Cameroon is quickly changing the country's religious landscape and contributing to the spread of religious intolerance. Unlike, for example, neighboring Nigeria and the Central African Republic, previously Cameroon rarely faced serious manifestations of sectarian tensions, but over the past 10-15 years traditional Sufi Islam has been increasingly supplanted by the ideology of Wahhabism. Wahhabism is rapidly spreading not only in the north of the country, but also in the south, which until recently was inhabited mainly by Christians and animists. The spread of Wahhabism is actively supported and funded by Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Egypt. Sufism, the followers of which mainly include Fulani living in the northern regions, is gradually losing its position. The specific interpretation of Islam leads to the destabilization of religious and public political life, and Koranic schools and refugee camps become "incubators of terrorists". The growing influence of radical Islam in Cameroon is largely due to the expansion of the terrorist organization Boko Haram into the country; one of the consequences of this is the broadening affiliation of Cameroonians, inspired by calls for the cleansing of Islam and the introduction of Sharia law, with this armed Islamist group. As in other African countries, the radicalization of Islam is accompanied by the intensification of terrorist activities, leading to an exacerbation of the internal political situation, an increase in the number of refugees, and the deterioration of the socio-economic situation of the population, etc. The failure of the Cameroonian government to counter terrorist activities in the north of the country in the near future may lead to an escalation of the military-political conflict on religious grounds in the context of political instability that Cameroon is experiencing at the moment.

The development of an agro-industrial complex under present-day conditions is impossible to imagine without the development of agro-biotechnology, which in turn requires specialists with profound knowledge of biology, chemistry and related sciences. In this regard, training of personnel is needed to ensure active implementation of modern technologies in agricultural sciences. Until recently, such specialists have not been trained at classical universities, to which St. Petersburg State University belongs. To deal with this challenge, a Masters Program «Molecular Biology and Agrobiotechnology of Plants» has been developed and is being implemented in SPbSU. Teaching staff from eight departments of the Biological Faculty of SPbSU is involved in the creation and implementation of the Program. The Program in question is focused on familiarizing students with the modern problems, achievements, methodology of agro-biotechnology of plants, as well as on practical application of the obtained knowledge. Special attention is paid to the formation of trainees’ perceptions of the possibility and necessity of bringing plant breeding to the level of requirements and possibilities of the «post-genome era» to achieve high productivity and sustainability of agricultural production with minimal environmental risks. The Program seamlessly integrates practical exercises and students’ research work in the SPbSU facilities, as well as that performed at St. Petersburg research institutes. Much attention is paid to the development of students’ skills in conducting scientific discussions and in presenting their scientific data in different formats, for instance in English, which is very important for monitoring current scientific trends and integrating own research into world science. The Program is popular with students and many of its graduates have been employed by the leading biological and agricultural research institutes.

The article deals with the topical issue of digitalization of education as a component of the digital transformation of contemporary society and the economy in general. The purpose of the research is to identify the readiness status of teaching staff for professional activity in the context of the digitalization of education. The main research methods were the questionnaire (implemented in the form of an online survey among students of the extramural form of study of the Moscow City Pedagogical University working at educational institutions of Moscow), and statistical analysis of the data obtained. The results of an online survey of teachers allowed concluding that today teachers have acquired a positive experience in the use of recommended tested digital educational resources, the ability to develop innovative digital educational and methodological support for the educational process, as well as recognized the need to build a personal trajectory of professional development in the framework of digital education.

The article analyses the experience of organizing International Educational Exhibitions in Ukraine in 2016 – 2020. The essence of such concepts as "international educational exhibition", "international educational exhibition space", "facilitative support of professional development of research and teaching staff" is defined. The structural elements of the International Educational Exhibition and the stages of a higher educational institution participation in the exhibition activity (preparatory, direct participation, analysis of the achieved results) are considered. The authors of the article present systematized experience of facilitative support of professional development of research and teaching staff provided by specialists of the Department of Scientific Work of the State Institution of Higher Education "University of Educational Management" of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine in the process of preparing, holding and analysing results of International Educational Exhibitions, such as "Innovation in Modern Education", "Modern Educational Institutions", "Education and Career – Student's Day", "Education and Career". The types of organizational and coordination activities are determined, a detailed list of actions of the process of facilitative support by the specialists of the Department of Scientific Work of research and teaching staff as exhibitors and visitors of the exhibition is presented. Methodical structuring and algorithmizing of types of organizational and coordination activities and a detailed list of actions of the facilitation process are described in the following stages: 1) preparation of research and teaching staff (exhibitors and visitors) to participate in International Educational Exhibitions; 2) direct participation of research and teaching staff (exhibitors and visitors) in the International Educational Exhibitions; 3) analysis of the results of participation of research and teaching staff (exhibitors and visitors) in International Educational Exhibitions. The authors have created a classification of events of the International Educational Exhibition according to the congress, competition and exponential components. Statistics of the number of planned and conducted events within the International Educational Exhibition activities in Ukraine in 2016 – 2020 are presented. Emphasis is placed on changing the form of exhibitions from offline to online format due to the COVID–19 pandemic and lockdown (quarantine restrictions) in 2020. Recommendations for higher educational institutions to maintain an integrated information base of exhibition educational activities with detailed information on the activities within the exponential, competitive and congress programs of the exhibition.

Teacher professional development has recently become a central focus in the Indonesian context, particularly after the implementation of the post-bachelor teacher professional education program or Pendidikan Profesi Guru (PPG) for both pre-service and in-service EFL teachers in 2013. However, studies reveal that the transition from teacher education programs to the initial teaching career at schools has been described as a challenging phase. Despite the growing attention of scholars in exploring beginning teachers’ challenges, studies focusing on the early-career Indonesian EFL teachers, particularly those who just completed the PPG program, are considered limited. Therefore, drawing on a qualitative case study with two beginning Indonesian secondary EFL teachers, this study aims to unravel the challenges during their first-year teaching experience at school after completing the PPG program. By thematically analysing the semi-structured interviews, this study indicated that the teachers experienced four significant challenges: 1) pedagogical (classroom management, lack of teaching resources, test-based learning atmosphere), 2) professional (complex self-identification), 3) social (maintaining rapport with senior teachers), and 4) personal (mood management).  Despite having been trained professionally through the PPG program, the result suggested that the beginning teachers still faced considerable challenges during their initial endeavour as an English teacher at school. Pedagogical implications are discussed in terms of the need for continuous professional development for the newly certified teachers during their initial career at schools.
