The objective of this examination was to determine the quality of the seedlings of Pelargonium x hortorum L. H. Bail. Hybrid “Ringo 2000 deep scarlet” by using fertilizers with different Ca (NO3)2 concentration. Easily soluble fertilizers were used as follows: NPK 9-10-34+M.E. + Ca (NO3)2. In all treatments the dosage of NPK 9-10-34+M.E. was the same (1.6 g/l), but the dosages of Ca (NO3)2 were different as follows: 1.6 g/l, 3 g/l and 4.6 g/l. The plants of the control variant were irrigated with plain water. According to the results of all examined biometrical parameters, it was determined that the nutrition with fertilizer NPK 9-10-34+M.E. + Ca (NO3)2 in dosage of 1.6 g/l had the best results compared to the control variant for about 52% more mass of stem, 76% more mass of root, 83% higher number of brunches, 30% higher number of leaves and 15% higher number of inflorescence.

Five strawberry genotypes ('Rabi 3', 'Camarosa', 'BARI Strawberry 1', 'BADC Strawberry' and 'Festival') were evaluated for their field performance. The maximum number of leaves/plant (14.2), canopy spread (31.82 cm) and runners/plant (7.2) were found with 'Camarosa', 'Festival' and 'Rabi 3' respectively. Festival took the lowest number of days to flower initiation (32.5). The highest number of flowers (23.64) and fruits/plant (19.98) were found in 'Camarosa'. The heaviest (21.83 g) and the largest sized individual fruit (1539.31 mm2) were produced by 'Festival'. Fruit TSS (%) was the highest (15.83) in BARI Strawberry 1. Genotype 'Festival' gave the highest fruit yield (12.94 t/ha) and 'BADC Strawberry' yielded the lowest (6.15 t/ha). Considering growth, yield and quality of fruit, genotypes 'Festival' and 'Camarosa' were found promising under the climatic condition of Salna.Bangladesh J. Agril. Vegetables form major part of human dietary/nutritional needs. It provides the necessary vitamins and minerals as well as antioxidants to boost immunity. Different vegetables however have different benefits and require different growing conditions. This study investigated the effect of two growing conditions (Screen-house and open field) and soil amendments; Mexican sunflower compost (MSC; applied at 0, 5, 10 t/ha) and NPK 15:15:15 (applied at 0, 50 and 100 kg N/ha) on the growth performance, yield, and nutritional quality of five selected vegetables (Amaranthus cruentus, Celosia. argentea, Solanum macrocarpon, Solanum nigrum and Solanum incanum). Each treatment was replicated three times and experiment arranged in completely randomized design, Compost was applied a week before seed sowing vegetables grown in the screen-house generally performed better than the open field in terms of leaf area and chlorophyll content. The response however varied based on the vegetable and the soil amendments. Solanum species, performed better than Amaranthus under screen-house than open field. Chlorophyll in the leaf responded positively to NPK fertilizer under screen-house conditions while growth parameters such as plant height, stem girth, number of leaves under screen-house and field conditions varied depending on the vegetables. The number of leaves and leaf area increased with soil amendments. Moisture, crude protein and ash contents were reduced under open field compared to screen-house. The zinc and iron contents of the vegetable leaves showed that addition of compost was superior to NPK and screen-house better than open field. It can be concluded that vegetables grown in the screen-house performed better in their respective growth parameters than vegetables are grown under the open field.

ABSTRACT With the advent of black sigatoka in commercial banana crops in the “Vale do Ribeira” region, state of São Paulo, the monitoring the severity and chemical control of the disease in susceptible varieties have become more frequent in order to avoid leaf loss. This study simulated the effect of defoliation caused by the disease on the yield and quality of ‘Prata Comum’ banana fruits, depending on the formation period and fruit position in the bunch. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2 x11 factorial scheme (period of bunch formation x number of leaves at flowering), 6-16 leaves at flowering in two periods of bunch formation with six replicates. In Period 1, flowering occurred at 04/15/13 and in Period 2 at 01/07/14, although in Period 1, bunch mass was higher and in Period 2, higher average maximum and minimum daily temperatures, precipitation and radiation were observed. Regardless of formation period, the number of leaves at flowering affected bunch mass, which ranged from 18 to 23 kg plant-1. Defoliation affected the size of fruits of hand 1 and last hand of the bunch, but not the variability in fruit size due to the position the fruit occupies in the bunch and physicochemical characteristics.

Nowadays soils for vegetable growing are poor in humus because the possibility of using stable dung is limited. The application of Lignofert organic carbonaceous fertilizer made of ground lignite seems to be a solution. It is intended as a fertilizer for the field or greenhouse growing of vegetables, as a component to composts, soil substrates and likewise. Lignofert effects on the formation of lettuce yield, weight of heads and NaNO<sub>3</sub> content were studied in 2003 to 2005. Head lettuce grown in a greenhouse and in field conditions was a biological material. Average lettuce yields and average weight of heads in 2005 were statistically highly significantly higher in variants with Lignofert in comparison with the control variant grown in the greenhouse and in the field. The Lignofert effect on nitrate content in lettuce heads was not proved statistically. &nbsp;

The study was conducted on sandy loam soil at IAAS Rampur, Chitwan during May to September, 2012 to evaluate the effect of different combinations of biogas slurry and urea on production of okra, laid out in a two-factor RCBD with three replications. Altogether ten treatments consist of two varieties namely Arka Anamika - open pollinated and Jaikisan-62-F1 hybrid and four different levels of biogas slurry and urea combination (urea75%+biogas slurry25%, urea50%+biogas slurry50%, urea25%+biogas slurry75% and biogas slurry100%) and only inorganic chemical (75:60:50 kg NPK/ha) as control. All treatments were based on fulfillment of required nitrogen for the crop. The results showed that application of urea50%+biogas slurry50% increased plant height, leaf area, number of leaves and number of nodes at final harvesting. Treatment urea50% + biogas slurry50% allow maximum number of pickings/plant (23.2) and number of fruits/plant (23.5) resulting highest yield/plant (376.3 g). Among the varieties, Jaikisan-62 is superior in terms of growth, yield and post harvest character than Arka Anamika. The net return (Rs. 474,136/ha) and mean B/C ratio was highest (2.59) in Jaikisan-62 treated with urea50%+biogas slurry50%. So, for the commercial production hybrid variety is suggested.

ABSTRACT Okra, Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench, is a vegetable with annual fruit native to hot regions of Africa, well adapted to the conditions of the Northeast and Southeast regions of Brazil, where it is widely used by small farmers. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of mineral and organic fertilization on the production and quality of okra fruits. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design, with three replicates and eleven treatments defined according to a Baconian matrix. Treatments consisted of doses of N (0, 100, 200 and 300 kg ha-1), P (0, 100, 200 and 300 kg ha-1) and K (0, 80, 160 and 240 kg ha-1), as well as absence and presence of organic compost (30 t ha-1). The following parameters were evaluated: plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, production of fruits plant-1, number of fruits plant-1, fruit length and diameter and fruit quality (pH, soluble solids, titratable acidity, vitamin C and electrical conductivity). The crop is demanding in terms of K and N fertilizations, with increments of 15.8 and 36% in the mean number and diameter of fruits, respectively. Organic fertilization did not influence the vegetative growth of okra, but was beneficial to the production of fruits with higher vitamin C content, 52% higher than the contents found in fruits produced without such input.

Melon are one of the most popular fruit commodities, but, despite the demand, its production in Indonesia has declined. One measure that can be used to optimize the quality of melon fruit is to trim off the leaf buds and arrange the position of fruiting on the stem, and this study, using the golden melon cultivar ‘Apollo,’ aimed to identify the effects of leaf bud trimming and fruit position arrangement in improving the quantity and quality of the fruit harvest. The experiment was conducted from March to May 2018 in the greenhouse of Food Crop and Horticulture Agribusiness Development (UPT Pengembangan Agribisnis Tanaman Pangan dan Hortikultura), in Lebo, Sidoarjo, Indonesia. It was based on a split-plot design, with leaf bud trimming as the main factor, consisting of two groups (trimming or not trimming), and fruit positions as the secondary factor, consisting of four stages, all repeated at four different time intervals. A correlation was found between leaf bud trimming and fruit position arrangement toward the number of leaves. However, the treatments did not affect the growth and yield of the plants, but did have a significant effect on fruit weight, sweetness, and volume. It was concluded that trimming off the leaf buds and arranging the fruiting position on golden melon plants can increase the quality of fruits, with the treatment involving trimming combined with arranging fruiting on the twelfth–thirteenth segment showing the best results.

The study was intended to determine the growth response of the pepper plant steak due to an extended 3 hours of Tauge extracting with a concentration of 300 ml/l. The design used in this study is a completely random design with a single factory based pattern of P1 (1 hour), P2 (2 hours), P3 (3 hours), P4 (4 hours), P5 (5 hours). Variable observations in this study are the number of shoots (strands), length of shoots (cm2), number of leaves (strands), amount of roots (cm2), length of roots (cm2), fresh shoots (gram), shoots dry weights (gram), root fresh weights (gram), root dry weights (gram), root dry weights (gram). Studies indicate that extended snorting time of pepper on and Tauge extracting gives very real influence to the growth variable of sprouts (50,66%), root length (32,96%), leaves (58,88%), root length (45,14%), root weight (57,72%), shoots (71,43%), shoots dry weight (65,73%). Thus the treatment of Tauge extracts as one of the natural growth regulator plants in seeding with a concentration of 300 m/l water would be best submerged for 3 hours to speed up the growth and remove the roots to achieve the best quality of the steed growth.

Physiological status of chrysanthemum cuttings during rooting process highly influences plant growth and flower production. Amongst other aspects, rooting capacity of the cuttings is the most important. Rooting capacity is influenced by environmental conditions such as growing medium and nutrition. The study was aimed to analyze the effects of different types of media, fertilizer concentration, and frequency of fertilizer application on the rooting capacity of chrysanthemum cuttings. The experiment was conducted at the Segunung Experimental Station of the Indonesian Ornamental Crops Research Institute from February to May 2005. The treatments consisted of four different rooting media, i.e. carbonized rice husk, coco peat, perlite, and mixture of perlite and vermiculite (1:1 v/v); two concentrations of NPK (25:7:7) fertilizers, i.e. 1.75 and 2.5 g 1-l; and four frequencies of fertilizer application, i.e. every 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, and 4 days. The experiment was designed in a completely randomized block with four replications. Parameters observed were rooting capacity and cutting performances such as cutting height, cutting diameter, number of leaves, number of visible roots, and root length at 16 days after planting. The results showed that chrysanthemum cuttings rooted in carbonized rice husk had better performance than those rooted in coco peat, vermiculite, and mixture of perlite + vermiculite. Higher concentration of fertilizer solution up to 2.5 g l-1 also gave significant effect on the root formation and further root growth of cuttings. However, the rooting capacity of cuttings was not affected by the frequency of fertilizer application. This study implied that carbonized rice husk growing medium supplemented with NPK (2.5 g l-l) every 4 days during rooting period is the choice for traditional chrysanthemum growers to increase the perform-ance and quality of the cut flowers.

<p>Cabbage caterpillar pests (Crocidolomia pavonana) is one of the main obstacles inhibiting the production both in quality and quantity. Control is generally done with chemical pesticides that can harm the environment and humans. Wood vinegar is an agricultural waste that is used to increase the quantity and quality of mustard plant. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of wood vinegar as a botanical pesticide in the mustard plant and the PGR and the most effective concentration. Research using completely randomized design with 7 degree treatment laboratory tests (mortality, biology, kemampua eating) and 8 standard treatment field test (the intensity of pest attack, plant height, leaf number and weight of mustard plant), repeated 3 times. The results showed that wood vinegar is not effective as a pesticide plant pest control C.pavonana the mustard. Wood vinegar speed up the life cycle C. pavonana. Wood Vinegar can help to enhance and augment leaf mustard plant so that it can be effective as an aphrodisiac mustard plant grows. The greater the concentration of a given wood vinegar, increased growth (both height and number of leaves of mustard plant).</p>
