Significance of the English language use in the globalized economy has been indisputable. Reforms of educational systems have been tailored to accommodate the role of the English language in today’s globalized context. While many scholars are propagating dissemination of this idea ranging from innovating language teaching methodologies to unique business strategies, still many are pointing to problems related to cultural and socio-political issues. A dichotomy between the single language use for international communication and local languages throughout the world brings up a major intercultural issue. Solutions to this issue represent a complex and difficult task requiring organized efforts both at national and global levels.

In response to the increasing demand of learners for English as a language of international communication, issues related to the teaching of foreign language in higher education are being discussed. Effective forms and methods of teaching English-language auditing to students in higher education are being considered. The nature and role of the auditing process is noted. Audio texts that reflect real-life situations are described. Series selected and analyzed. The problems and difficulties encountered by students in learning to audit. Measures are recommended for the correct organization of the audition process in the classroom, the most effective approaches to developing the student’s confidence in listening to audio texts and the ability to understand foreign language speech.

The role of telecollaborative competence has become vital among twenty-first century English language teachers. Yet, the reinforcement of this competence with its establishment within educational systems is not always straightforward; particularly in traditional educational settings. Looking at telecollaborative competence amongst English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers in relation to region, gender and qualification have become central inquiries within this research. The findings have shown correlation among some elements of telecollaborative competence as shown in Tables 1-6. In line with these findings, some recommendations, and future research directions have been suggested.

Reading identities are the ways that a child constructs the self as a reader across contexts and time. This study examines the impact of language contexts on the reading identities of multilingual children. Participants were ten prekindergarten children participating in a Chinese-English family literacy programme with a parent or grandparent. Participants read Chinese and English language books across English, Chinese and multilingual contexts. Children’s reading identities were examined across language contexts to explore the interplay between language contexts and reading identities. Findings describe convergences and differences in reading identities across contexts for Chinese, English and multilingual language use and Chinese and English texts, and provide insights into the ways that different language contexts for reading affect multilingual children’s early reading identities. Multilingual contexts appear to provide key spaces for the development of reading identities, and English and Chinese contexts contribute to unique aspects of children’s reading identities.

It has been observed that many users of English in Nigeria do not possess the required level of competence in the language despite its second language status, with its attendant high functional load. This paper seeks to discover the role of literature in achieving proficiency in the use of the English language. To this end, it is targeted at exploring literature in English as a veritable resource in achieving the required proficiency among Nigerian users of English as a second language. The study population consists of final year students of the Department of English language and Literature of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka in Nigeria. Questionnaires and participant observations were adopted as the instruments for data collection. It was discovered that students who have more exposure to literary works are more proficient in using the English language. It, therefore, concluded that making students read literary works, listen, dramatize, and recite them will acquaint them with the comprehensible input they need to achieve the requisite competence in the language.

This study used MALL technology to mediate a collaborative learning environment focused on cross-cultural understanding. Research questions addressed the participants' perceptions about the role of the English language today, the use of technology to assist language learning, their attitudes about studying English via cross-cultural interaction, and their perceptions leading to instructional technology design best practices for English learning activities using LINE. Students from Japan and Taiwan wrote collaborative 700 word essays, collaborating via the LINE smartphone app. Data collection used a survey, open-ended questions at the conclusion of the study, and analysis of the actual essays. The instructional design was shown to be successful in fostering beneficial responses by the participants and a strong willingness to engage in future international communication. The affordances provided by LINE are analyzed, and best practices offered for using LINE as a platform for learning.

The relevance of the English Language learning is substantiated in the article for many reasons. First, because of its prevalence in the whole world. Secondly, due to the huge number of lexical and stylistic features, such as context, polysemantic words, direct word order in sentence, variability (British, American, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand English). Thirdly, owing to its clarity, conciseness, emotional colouring and individuality. The article defines the possibilities of the contextual method using in the Turkish and English language Lexicology studying. Such teaching methods as descriptive (for a general description of the context); contextual-interpretive (to identify the functional and semantic meaning of a word), as well as a method of creating a problem situation using a contextual task were used for achieving the goal. The features of the English language as the language of international communication are determined; the place of the context in English is considered and the role of the English context in comparison with the Turkish one is defined. The difficulties of translating words from English and vice versa due to their ambiguity are stipulated. Especially it concerns synonymic dominants, idioms, set phrases and phrasal verbs. Context has been shown to understand the meaning of a word or phrase. Depending upon the context and lexical surroundings, most words in common vocabulary can change their meaning in both Turkish and English.

In contemporaneity, the English language successfully fulfills the role of a mediator in international communication, deeply influencing the other languages, including Romanian. Through the realities of the brand made in the Anglo-American space, which are propagating inventively in all four parts of the world, penetrate in the local vocabulary and their names, being assimilated and used in internal daily expression. The given words, called Anglicisms, cause inaccuracies among both users and researchers. In order to solve some of the problems, we propose the design of a small dictionary, in which to collect all the recent Anglicisms from our use in order to be subjected, from scholarly positions, to a regulated interpretation that will become an obligatory norm to follow. The language consumer should consult here spelling and morphological values, pronunciation and stress, decoding of abbreviations and etymology, semantic definitions and practical examples. Finally, the Anglicisms, which have previously confused the speaker, to be scientifically processed, elucidated and returned to the public.

People are very likely to make mistakes during language learning, FL learners above all. We want in this paper to make an experimental effort to describe and pinpoint learners’ errors in language learning and language use hoping it will pave the ground for FL learners’ to have a better understanding of the errors they make. And yet all researches done empirically until present day show a correlation between students’ motivation and learning aftermaths in the teaching of English in ESL and EFL contexts. Notwithstanding of a sound theoretical framework, there are few studies which bring about strategies intended to increase motivation and report findings. This paper also endeavors to enlighten the factors which put students’ motivation in jeopardy and act as hindrance in efficient foreign language learning. It equips teachers with a tool for assessing students’ motivation so that they put into practice effective motivation strategies in the English classroom. The strategies and involvements suggested can be used by teachers in copious teaching situations after of course considering and taking their own teaching contexts under advisement.

This paper aims to explore some intellectual wise saying from African wisdom and culture from one of the three major languages in the northern part of Nigeria. The use of discourse markers is one of the linguistics devices embedded in Hausa proverbs. However, Africa as the continent was occupied by different languages and dialectics. Proverbs is an expression of a saying which combines various wisdom and culture of every human beings living on the earth. This paper utilises written document as a method and selected (36) different proverbs and analyses the discourse markers. Moreover, the paper reviewed various studies that looked at proverbs' role as one of a figurative speech and the definitions of discourse markers defined by literary scholars and cultural critics who studied proverbs from different perspectives. The finding of this paper identified (19) out of (36) proverbs also indicated DMs served as interpersonal functions and the relationship between the speakers’ actions and thoughts, while the remaining (17) functions as textual features for making meaning. Finally, the study found that discourse markers enhance some lexical expressions under different levels, including sentence connectivity, language use, and the appearance of discourse markers in the proverbs. The study's significance shows that cultural scholars and English language educators can incorporate/integrate proverbs and highlighted the role of discourse markers to the student, enhancing their linguistics knowledge, communication skills and learning activities.
