Data was obtained in 2018 at three outpatient diabetes clinics, using systematic random sampling with sample size of 138 diabetic children aged between 2-18 years, via structured interviews. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data and test the relationship between quality of life and other independent variables: demography ( age, gender, parents’ education, age, residency and occupation), type of diabetes, type of treatment, duration of illness, control of diabetes and insurance status. Results:  The mean age of children was 11.1±3.64 years. Most of them were females 63%. More than half of participants were not covered by any insurance scheme. Those with diabetes reported personal and adverse social effects, poor control; HA1C more than 6.5% in 90% of participants. Mean generic quality of life was 80.03 ± 27 and 80.84 ± 28 p-value =0.73 for parents and children respectively. Conclusion: Diabetes adversely affects the quality of life of diabetic children which is influenced by history of hospitalization. Further studies on Diabetes quality of life are recommended.

Quality of life was assessed from parents and children using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) 4.0 Generic Core questionnaires. Statistical analysis of Wilcoxon signed rank test and pair t-test were used with p-value<0.05 being significant. Results: A total of 30 children were included during the study period. Sixteen children were female with a mean age of 11.5 (standard deviation 2.7) years. The differences in score between parents and children were as follows: physical functioning (82.8 vs 87.5) p-value=0.140, emotional functioning (65.0 vs 72.5) p-value=0.173, social functioning (80.0 vs 95.0) p-value=0.016 and school functioning (67.5 vs 70.0) p-value=0.116. There were no differences according to onset of diagnosis and the only differences found were in social functioning based on the induction treatment phase. Children with complications showed significant differences in physical, emotional and social functioning (p-value=0.041, p-value=0.023, p-value=0.038 respectively). Conclusion: Parents and children with lupus nephritis showed different scores of quality of life in social functioning, and it is important to consider the daily life activities of children.

Introduction: Assessment of hemodialysis adequacy is an important indicator to assess the effectiveness of hemodialysis measures that can affect the patient's quality of life with chronic kidney disease. This study aims to determine the relationship between adequate hemodialysis and the quality of life of patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis therapy.Method: This type of research is a correlational study with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were 86 elderly patients who underwent hemodialysis at the Muhammadiyah Lamongan Hospital. In this study, the independent variables were adequate hemodialysis and quality of life as the dependent variable. Measurement of hemodialysis adequacy was carried out using the URR formula, and the assessment of quality of life using the SF 36 questionnaire. Data analysis methods used the Spearman test using SPSS Ver. 16Result: The results of measurement of adequacy of 86 respondents, namely 13.9% achieved adequate and 86% did not achieve adequacy. The results of the quality of life assessment showed that 17.4% had a good quality of life and 82.5% had a poor quality of life. The results of statistical tests showed that there was a significant relationship between adequate hemodialysis and quality of life (p value = 0.000).Conclusion: The role of nurses is very important in improving the quality of care in achieving adequate adequacy so that it will improve the quality of life in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis therapy.

Background: Emotional stress is frequently associated with otologic symptoms as tinnitus and dizziness. Stress can contribute to the beginning or worsening of tinnitus. Objective: The objective of the study is to evaluate the presence of stress symptoms in patients with chronic, subjective tinnitus, and correlate its presence to annoyance associated with tinnitus. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. One hundred and eighty patients with chronic, subjective tinnitus were included. Patients answered the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) to evaluate the impact of tinnitus in the quality of life and answered the Lipp's inventory symptoms of stress for adults (ISSL). The data obtained was organized using Excel® 2010, mean values, linear regression and p-value were calculated. Results: Of the 180 patients included in the study, 117 (65%) had stress symptoms, 52 of the 117 (44%) were in the resistance phase and 23 of the 117 (20%) in the exhaustion phase, the remaining was in the alert phase. There was a clear progressive increase in stress as THI raised, with more impact of tinnitus in quality of life. Conclusion: The presence of stress symptoms, measured by ISSL was observed in most of our patients with chronic subjective tinnitus, specially in the resistance and exhaustion phases and it is directly associated with tinnitus annoyance.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is defined as a progressive disease that causes renal failure and requires extended and long-term therapies. CKD patients need to choose one of these therapies to improve their quality of life. This study aims to investigate differences in the quality of life of chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD).Design and Methods: The study design used is similar to the cross-sectional design. Therefore, in this study observations were carried out, a EQ_5D life quality questionnaire sheet was administered to respondents, and a purposive sampling method was used. The total number of respondents was 250 and consisted of 125 hemodialysis and CAPD patients each. Results: The results obtained using the Mann Whitney method was a p-value (0.515)> α (0.05). These results also included five components, namely the ability to move/walk to an acceptable degree, adequate self-care, performance of usual activities, minimal amount of pain/discomfort during hemodialysis and CAPD, and acceptable levels of anxiety/sadness.Conclusions: This research concludes that there is no difference in the quality of life between CKD patients  undergoing hemodialysis and CAPD.

Diabetes is a common chronic disease that is considered as one of the fastest-growing health problems in the world. Adherence to medications could be an important factor in reducing these complications and improving the quality of life. The purpose of this research was to assess the impact of treatment adherence on health-related quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes. A multicenter cross-sectional study was carried out among 368 diabetes patients. General Medication Adherence Scale was used to assess the adherence level and EuroQol-5D to assess the quality of life. The results show that 19%, 21%, and 23% of patients had maintained low medication adherence due to patient’s intentional or unintentional behavior due to additional diseases or pills burden and due to financial constraints, respectively. Overall, 43% (n=162) participants had maintained high medication adherence, and 37% (n=138) had maintained low medication adherence to antidiabetic drugs. Nearly one-third (31%) of patients with high overall adherence had perfect health state in comparison with 4% among patients with low adherence. Further, the lower proportion (21%) of patients with high overall adherence had perfect health state in comparison with that among patients with low adherence (34%). In addition to the overall adherence, the association was statistically significant for the domains related to non-adherence due to the patient’s intentional or unintentional behavior (p-value 0.001) and non-adherence due to additional diseases or pills burden (p-value 0.001) after taking into account of socio-demographic and clinical characteristics. In conclusion, the findings suggest that the policymakers should establish an intervention to improve adherence to diabetic treatment, and thus improve the quality of life for the type 2 diabetic patients.
