The Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) has instructed all insurance providers in Indonesia to apply a mandatory tariff for property insurance. The tariff has to be uniformly applied and the rule of set the maximum and minimum premium rates for protection against losses. Furthermore, the OJK issued the new rule regarding self-retention and domestic reinsurance. Insurance companies are obliged to have and implement self-retention for each risk in accordance with the self-retention limits. Fluctuations of total premium income and claims may lead the insurance company cannot fulfil the obligation to the insured, thus the company needs to conduct reinsurance. Reinsurance helps protect insurers against unforeseen or extraordinary losses by allowing them to spread their risks. Because reinsurer chargers premium to the insurance company, a properly calculated optimal retention would be nearly as high as the insurer financial ability.  This paper is aimed at determining optimal retentions indicated by the risk measure Value at Risk (VaR), Expected Shortfall (ES) and Minimum Variance (MV). Here we use the expectation premium principle which minimizes individual risks based on their quota share reinsurance. Regarding to the data in an insurance property, we use a bivariate lognormal distribution to obtain VaR, ES and MV, and a bivariate exponential distribution to obtain MV. The bivariate distributions are required to derive the conditional probability of the amount of claim occurs given the benefit has occurred.

Claim risk is a payment made by the insurance company to the policyholder. Actuaries in insurance companies should be able to measure and control the risk of claims, in order to avoid losses to insurance companies. In this paper we analyze the Geometric-Gamma Collective Modified Value-at-Risk model in life insurance risk. In this research, there is a development of claim risk measure called Collective Modified Value-at-Risk, which is an extension of Collective Risk model. This Collective Modified Value-at-Risk model requires estimation of the mean, variance, skewness, and kurtosis parameters. The result of this research, is that the extent of this model can be applied to the risk of claims amount of non-normal distributed. Thus, the Collective Modified Value-at-Risk model can serve as one of the statistical alternatives for measuring the risk of claims on life insurance.

Experience of the last ten years says that monuments become the object of violations and destructions. Almost daily shocking news of vandalism on burial places are appearing in mass media. Such behavior of violators of the law causes sincere neglect and misunderstanding in decent citizens. At the same time citizens are concerned by safety of monuments as subjects of a material world, look for ways to save them from possible encroachments, and themselves from unplanned expenditure on their restoration. It is known that the monuments executed from noble stones, shod fencings and marble slabs cost much, and from time to time is very expensive. And it is twice offensive when such gravestone constructions are exposed to attack and plunder. Today in Russia there are protected cemeteries, but as practice shows, and protection isn´t able to save a grave from this trouble. In that case insurance companies come to the rescue. They are ready to compensate the damage caused by vandals in the presence of the insurance contract. At first sight this service is strange, but its demand says that the condition of society where such immoral manifestations are possible is strange. The insurance contract execution of gravestone constructions of insurance company requires the passport of the insurer, the name of a cemetery and number of a grave, and also the documents for production of these constructions confirming the corresponding expenses. It is need to be note that such insurance can directly be made out on a place and supplement the list of the provided funeral services.

The paper explores the practical aspects of forming a competitive environment in the non-life insurance market of Ukraine and analyzes the competitiveness and financial performance of leading insurance companies. Based on the analysis of non-life insurance market concentration indicators, the authors concluded that there is no clear leader in this market, the level of market concentration is negligible. Based on the analysis of non-life insurance market leaders by volume of gross insurance premiums in the whole market and by main types of non-life insurance (CASCO, motor vehicle liability insurance, property insurance, fire and catastrophe risk insurance, CARGO, health insurance) the authors found that the leadership of insurance companies in the market does not mean their leadership in all types of non-life insurance; some insurance companies specialize in certain types of insurance and not being leaders in the insurance market at all occupy leading positions in certain segments of non-life insurance market. In order to provide a general assessment of the competitiveness of individual insurance companies in the non-life insurance market, the following indicators were selected: the volume of gross insurance premiums, gross insurance payments, insurance reserves and the amount of equity. In order to assess the size of market share of an individual insurance company in a more objective way, it is suggested to calculate the average share of the insurance company. The calculations made it possible to identify the leaders of the non-life insurance market in 2018 and to explore the dynamics of changes in their competitive position during 2016-2018. For the three insurance companies that have been identified as the leaders of the Ukrainian market non-life insurance in 2018 (“UNIKA”, “AXA Insurance” and “PZU Ukraine”), the authors analyzed the main indicators of their financial condition, namely the profitability of insurance services, profitability of sales, return on assets, return on equity, overall liquidity, absolute liquidity and autonomy. It was found that all the analyzed insurance companies are profitable, however, among the three leading Ukrainian insurance companies, the most effective in 2018 was the insurance company “PZU Ukraine” and the least profitable – “UNIKA”. Keywords: competitiveness, insurance company, market concentration, market share, competition.

Abstract Due to financial crisis, and especially because of prudence in lending (retail, micro, and corporate), banks are looking for new sources of income, and bancasurance is clearly a potential source of revenue. Thus, in the financial market, the interests of two major components of it are met: banks maximize commission income, and insurers make access to the large customer base of banks. Bancassurance is a distribution channel of insurance products through bank branches, bringing important advantages for banks, insurance companies and customers. The main advantage for the bank is that earns fee amount from the insurance company, the insurance company increases customers data base and market share, the client satisfy his financial needs and requests in the same institution. Considering that in Romania, banks and insurers do not provide information on the number of insurances sold via the bancassurance distribution channel, as well as commissions obtained by banks for the insurance sale, to determine the development of bancassurance in Romania, we used the statistical data provided by the National Bank of Romania, on credit growth and data provided by The Financial Supervision Association, on the evolution of gross written premiums. Bancassurance is one of the most important insurance distribution channels, accounting for approximately 36% of the global insurance market, in 2016, Europe’s insurers generated total premium income of €1 189bn and had €10 112bn invested in the economy. Regarding to the risks of bancassurance business for banks and insurers, they mainly concern distinct capital requirements for the banking and insurance systems, which will be covered by the Basel III and Solvency II directives. This paper aims to analyze the influence of credit on the bancassurance activity in the last 5 years in Romania, the economic, political and legal factors that have a negative impact on the development of bancassurance, and also the calculating the correlation coefficient r (Pearson’s coefficient) and his result.
