Meadow clover remains the main forage crop in the middle Urals with great potential. An urgent problem is the development and improvement of the technology of this crop cultivation, including the search for adapted varieties. The aim of the research is to estimate the fodder and seed productivity recommended by the originators of meadow clover varieties of Russian and foreign selection VIK 77, Diplo, Lestris, Ranniy 2, Kudesnik in the Middle Ural region. The studies were carried out in 2017-2019 in the forest-steppe zone of the Udmurt Republic on sod-medium-podzolic medium loamy soil. The Dymkovsky variety included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements in the Volga-Vyatka region was used as a standard. Clover varieties were sown in 2017, comprehensive study in 2018-2019. The meteorological conditions of the growing seasons during the study years were different: 2017 and 2019 - over moistened (hydrothermal coefficient – 1.97 and 1.73), 2018 - dry (hydrothermal coefficient – 0.89). Winter hardiness of meadow clover varieties was estimated at 4.5 points. Varieties Diplo, Lestris and Ranniy 2 reached mowing ripeness in 58-63 days, varieties Dymkovsky, VIK 77 and Kudesnik – in 66-70 days. The varieties Diplo, Ranniy 2 and Kudesnik provided a dry matter yield of 6.2-6.8 t/ha, on average for two years of using meadow clover grass-stand. The highest yield of metabolizable energy (51.2 and 55.0 GJ/ha), digestible protein (0.44 and 0.46 t/ha) and feed units (3.79 and 4.09 thousand feed units/ha) was found in the standard variety Dymkovskiy and the tetraploid variety Kudesnik. Seed productivity of cultivars of meadow clover of the 1st year of use was at the level of 137-314 kg/ha, the highest - 314 kg/ha in the standard variety Dymkovsky

Research subject. Zircons from the Saf’yanovskoe Cu-Zn deposit rhyolite (Middle Urals). For the first time, zircon U-Pb dating for the rhyolite of the ore-bearing volcanic-sedimentary rocks of the Saf’yanovskoe deposit was performed. The volcanites are characterized by an andesite-rhyodacite composition and are localized at the southern edge of the Rezhevskaya structural-formation zone (SFZ) of the Eastern Ural megazone. A number of publications assign these rocks either to the basalt-rhyolite formation of the Middle Devonian, or to the basalt-andesite-dacite-rhyolite formation of the Lower-Middle Devonian.Aim. To estimate the age of the ore-bearing volcanic rocks under study using the U-Pb SHRIMP-II isotop ic system of zircon from the rhyolite of the eastern side of the Saf’yanovskoe deposit. By its chemical composition, the rhyolite belongs to the silicic varieties of subvolcanic rocks. Methods and results. The U-Pb isotopic system of zircon was studied by 5-collector mass-spectrometer of high precision and emission of the secondary ions SHRIMP-II (ASI, Australia)  in the VSЕGEI Institute. U-Pb relations were investigated by a procedure developed by I.S. Williams. The U-Pb data obtained based on 13 zircon grains showed the age of 422.8 ± 3.7 Ma. Conclusions. The U-Pb dating of zircon obtained previously from the lens-shaped andesite bodies of the western side of the Safyanovskoe deposit gave the age of 422.8 Ma, which corresponds to the Przydoli series epoch of the Upper Silurian. We established that, among the volcanic rocks of the Saf’yanovskoe deposit, the effusive formations of the Upper Silurian are present.

Research subject. A tectonic block of ophiolites, corresponding to the root zone of a sheeted dike complex, in the eastern part of the Revdinsky massif of the Platinum-bearing belt of the Urals (UPB).Materials and methods. Zircons for dating were collected in the first-generation dolerite dikes of the sheeted dike complex under study, which had been previously considered as Ordovician. U-Pb dating of zircons was performed by LA-ICP-MS on a NexION 300S quadrupole mass spectrometer with a laser ablation attachment NWR 213.Results. Zircons with an age of 425.6 ± 2.9 Ma are characterized by primary magmatic zoning and apparently correspond to the time of intrusion of the sheeted dike complex. In zircons with an age of 404.0 ± 2.9 Ma, inclusions of metamorphogenic minerals (amphibole, chamosite, quartz, clinozoisite) were discovered. This age reflects rock recrystallization or metamorphism, for example, during the intrusion of later vein rocks of the diorite-tonalite series or dolerite dikes of the second generation. Three points of determination showed a younger age of 362 ± 5.6 Ma, probably reflecting the time of metamorphism at the beginning of collisional processes. Conclusions. For the first time, the Silurian U-Pb age of zircons (LA-ICP-MS) was obtained for the ophiolite block (root zone of the sheeted dike complex) in the structure of the Revdinsky massif UPB. The obtained age of intrusion of the sheeted dike complex (425.6 ± 2.9 Ma) coincides with the age of zircons (428.5 ± 3.7 Ma) from gabbro screens in sheeted dikes of the East Ural zone determined earlier (Smirnov, Ivanov, 2010) and corresponds to the time of spreading over the subduction zone in the Middle Urals.

Introduction. Medicinal plant raw materials are one of the most important sources of herbal remedies used both for the prevention and treatment of a number of diseases [1, 2]. Even with the development of modern science and chemistry, medicinal plant raw materials are widely used in both folk and official medicine. The advantage of medicinal plants is their wide range of biological activity, low toxicity and the possibility of long-term use without significant side effects. Human economic activity has a noticeable negative effect on the condition of wild-growing plants: their stocks are decreasing, and some species disappear altogether. Today, given the high level of development of industry and agriculture, the procurement of raw materials for wild medicinal plants is not always possible. Information on the quantitative assessment of the raw material base of wild medicinal plants in the Middle Urals, the content of biologically active substances in medicinal plant raw materials is partially outdated, which determines the need for their systemic resource study and chemical-pharmacognostic study.Aim. Comprehensive assessment of the state of populations of wild medicinal plants in the Middle Urals.Materials and methods. Determination of stocks of raw materials of the studied species of medicinal plants was carried out on specific thickets according to the generally accepted method. The authenticity of the raw materials was established by a macroscopic method when collecting raw material samples. In the course of the study, samples of medicinal plant materials of 5 types were prepared. The determination and assessment of the main indicators of the good quality of medicinal plant raw materials (the content of active and extractive substances, moisture in the mass upon drying, total ash and ash insoluble in a 10% solution of hydrochloric acid) was carried out according to the methods and requirements of the State Pharmacopoeia of the Russian Federation XIV edition. In the raw materials Artemisiae absinthii herba and Leonuri herba, the amount of extractives was determined by the gravimetric method. The quantitative assessment of the content of essential oil in the samples of Origani vulgaris herba and Tanaceti vulgaris flores was carried out by the method of hydrodistillation. To determine the quantitative content of the sum of flavonoids in Hyperici herba, Artemisiae absinthii herba, Leonuri herba and the sum of flavonoids and phenolcarboxylic acids in Tanaceti vulgaris flores, a spectrophotometric method was used. Results and discussion. In the course of resource and phytochemical studies of representatives of the medicinal flora of the Middle Urals, a comprehensive assessment of the state of populations of wild medicinal plants – sources of medicinal plant raw materials (Origani vulgaris herba, Hyperici herba, Tanaceti vulgaris flores, Artemisiae absinthii herba and Leonuri herba) was carried out. The results are included in the electronic inventory of wild medicinal plants of the Middle Urals.Conclusion. The conducted complex of studies will allow updating information about the medicinal flora of the Middle Urals in order to use raw materials for the creation of medicines.

One of the most promising trends in apple breeding is polyploidy. Triploid cultivars show higher fruiting stability and increased self-fertility. The easiest way to obtain triploids is to cross diploid and tetraploid cultivars among themselves. The main limiting factor in this case is a restricted number of initial tetraploid forms whose characteristics affect the quality and prospects of the resulting hybrid progeny. The staff of Sverdlovsk Horticultural Breeding Station in the Middle Urals produced and analyzed 5 hybrid families using cv. ‘Papirovka tetraploidnaya’ as the paternal source; the latter’s pollen was supplied by Acad. E. N. Sedov from the All-Russian Research Institute of Fruit Crop Breeding. Ninety hybrid seedlings were studied. The study showed that ‘Papirovka tetraploidnaya’ with a high degree of probability conveyed the following traits to its progeny: large fruit size, fruit ripening in early summer, midsummer and autumn, loose or medium density of coarse fruit flesh, and nonoutstanding fruit taste (scoring 3.8–4.2 points).

Abstract. The purpose of the research is to isolate species of annual and perennial herbaceous plants that are promising for the tasks of accelerating the sequestration of atmospheric carbon, resistant to local soil and climatic conditions and having high productivity from the collection fund of the botanical garden of the Ural Federal University. Methods. The article presents data on the productivity of four types of herbaceous plants: Amaranthus caudatus L., Amaranthus cruentus L., Polygonum weyrichii F. Schmidt and Echinops sphaerocephalus L., grown in the botanical garden. All the research objects were grown under the same conditions. Productivity was measured at the beginning of September. The data were processed using standard statistical methods. Results. It was revealed that the plants P. weyrichii is the most productive in terms of both fresh and dry yield. The yield of the P. weyrichii increases in years with sufficiently high moisture content. Aridity and high summer temperatures have a negative impact on the growth of the P. weyrichii. Amaranths gain a large aboveground mass due to their belonging to the group with the C4 type of photosynthesis. High summer temperatures have a positive effect on the growth and development of amaranths, while correlations with the amount of precipitation are statistically insignificant. The plants E. sphaerocephalus showed average values for productivity and requires further study. It is recommended to grow the plants P. weyrichii in a sufficiently humid area. Amaranth, being a drought-resistant plant, is highly productive in any years, especially in years with the value of the hydrothermal coefficient (HTC) less than 1.0. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the features of the cultivation of the studied crops are considered not only for forage purposes but also from the point of view of atmospheric carbon deposition and cultivation on potential carbon farms in the changing climate of the region.

The review of the Northern Eurasia seismicity for 2015 includes a description of seismic networks, the results of analysis of the seismic regime and individual noticeable earthquakes in 16 regions of Russia and neighbouring countries. Seismic monitoring was carried out by the networks of seismic station of Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, including 599 digital, 7 analogue stations and eight seismic groups. In 2015, these networks registered about 27 thousand tectonic earthquakes, over 6 thousand volcanic earthquakes, 599 explosions, 23 mountain-tectonic shocks and induced earthquakes. Focal mechanisms of 592 earthquakes were determined, the information on manifestations of 449 perceptible earthquakes was collected. 26 shocks were felt in settlements of Northern Eurasia with an intensity Ii≥5. According to estimates of the annual number and released seismic energy in 2015 in comparison with the long-term characteristics of the seismic regime, the seismic process in most regions of Northern Eurasia proceeded in the “background” regime. An exception is Tajikistan and adjacent territories, where two strong earthquakes occurred – the Hindu Kush earthquake on October 26 with Mw=7.5, h=230 km in northern Afghanistan, near the border with Tajikistan, and the Sarez earthquake on December 7 with Mw=7.2, Ms=7.6, h=20 km in Tajikistan. Both earthquakes were accompanied by numerous aftershocks and were felt in Tajikistan with intensities Imax=7 and Imax=7–8 respectively, on the MSK-64 scale. Notable event on the territory of Northern Eurasia in 2015 is the emergence of the Muyakan sequence of earthquakes, the largest for the period of instrumental observations in the region "Baikal and Transbaikalia", as a result of which the number of recorded earthquakes in the region quadrupled concerning 2014. The other interesting fact is occurrence of tangible earthquakes in the regions, traditionally considered weakly seismic – near the Semipalatinsk test area in Eastern Kazakhstan (Chingiz earthquake on January 20, Ms=4.1, I0=5–6), in the Middle Urals (Middle Ural earthquake on October 18 with ML=4.7, I0=6) and in the southwest of East -European platform (Poltava earthquake on February 3 with KR=10.7, I0=6).

The article presents the yield of early potato varieties, considering the different planting rates of tubers. A two-factor field experiment was conducted in 2013 - 2015 at the experimental field of the Perm State Agro-Technological University named after Academician. The purpose of the research is to find ways to cultivate early-ripening potato varieties to obtain a yield of 35 t/ha. The soils of the experimental site are sod-finely podzolic medium loamy. The humus content is 1.9 - 3.2%, pH (KCl) 4.4-5.1, P2O5 185-300 mg/kg, K2O 143-431 mg/kg. The meteorological conditions of the growing seasons were opposite in terms of weather conditions and did not equally affect the yield. It was found that, on average, over three years, the goal of the experiment was achieved only in one variant of the experiment - in the Rosalind variety with a maximum thickening of 71.4 thousand tubers per hectare. The limit of thickening in the Red Scarlett variety was at the maximum thickening of tubers when planting 71.4 thousand. The limit of thickening of the Luck variety was 47.6 thousand tubers, the limit of compaction of plantings in the Rosalind variety was 57.1 thousand tubers. Keywords: POTATO, VARIETY, YIELD, PLANTING RATE
