Unlike other aneurysms, blood blister-like aneurysms(BBA) occur at non-branching sites, are commonly located at the dorsal wall of the supraclinoid internal carotid artery (ICA), and are suspected to arise from dissecting aneurysms. They are typically diagnosed after a bleed because of their small size and unusual site. Therefore, lesions exist after brain computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, but they are often not found. In the case of BBA, which have a high risk of recurrence, the treatment is difficult, and selecting the treatment method is also challenging. This paper describes the treatment of a BBA with internal trapping of the ICA that eventually recurred despite performing coil embolization twice.

The objective of this study was to examine the effect of three different rearing regimens on rumen development in lambs reared artificially. Romney ram lambs were randomly allocated to one of three treatments: commercial milk replacer fed to 57 d of age and high fibre concentrate pellets (HFP57); commercial milk replacer, high fibre concentrate pellets, and early weaning from milk replacer at 42 d of age (HFP42); high protein milk replacer from 2–16 d of age followed by commercial milk replacer, low fibre concentrate pellets, and early weaning from milk replacer at 42 d of age (LFP42). Lambs were slaughtered at 57 d of age. Volatile fatty acid content in rumen fluid at slaughter was analysed and rumen tissue samples were collected for histological examination. The rumen n-butyric content was greater (p < 0.05) in both LFP42 and HFP42 treatment lambs compared to HFP57 lambs. The n-valeric content was greater (p < 0.05) in LFP42 lambs compared to both HFP57 and HFP42 treatment lambs. Thickness of the rumen dorsal wall determined by ultrasound scanning at 49 d was greater (p < 0.05) in both HFP42 and LFP42 lambs compared to HFP57 lambs. There was an interaction (p < 0.05) between treatment and site of rumen tissue sampling on papillae width, density, and rumen muscular layer thickness. Collectively, early weaning and the provision of a low fibre pellet leads to improved rumen function and physical development.

Abstract Background Surgical treatment of ophthalmic segment aneurysms (OSAs) remain challenging because of complex anatomy surrounding the aneurysm and entails extensive drilling of anterior clinoid process to define proximal neck of the aneurysm and carotid exposure in the neck for proximal control. Materials and Methods Authors present a retrospective analysis of 36 aneurysms in 35 patients with OSAs operated surgically by first author. Surgical clipping was done for the aneurysms as primary modality of treatment along with wrapping and trapping as required. Results Commonest age group was 40 to 60 years with female preponderance of 3:1. Maximum (23) patients presented with subarachnoid hemorrhage (WFNS Gr 1), followed by asymptomatic patients (six). There were 18 small, 14 large, and four giant aneurysms, 15 dorsal wall, 17 ventral wall, three proximal posterior wall, and one blister aneurysm. Good outcome, as measured by Glasgow Outcome Score (GOS) was achieved in 29 patients. Conclusion OSAs are technically demanding aneurysms, but with due diligence to surgical principles, good outcomes may be obtained.

Bushcrickets (katydids) rely on only 20 to 120 sensory units located in their forelegs to sense sound. Situated in tiny hearing organs less than 1 mm long (40× shorter than the human cochlea), they cover a wide frequency range from 1 kHz up to ultrasounds, in tonotopic order. The underlying mechanisms of this miniaturized frequency-place map are unknown. Sensory dendrites in the hearing organ (crista acustica [CA]) are hypothesized to stretch, thereby driving mechanostransduction and frequency tuning. However, this has not been experimentally confirmed. Using optical coherence tomography (OCT) vibrometry, we measured the relative motion of structures within and adjacent to the CA of the bushcricket Mecopoda elongata. We found different modes of nanovibration in the CA that have not been previously described. The two tympana and the adjacent septum of the foreleg that enclose the CA were recorded simultaneously, revealing an antiphasic lever motion strikingly reminiscent of vertebrate middle ears. Over the entire length of the CA, we were able to separate and compare vibrations of the top (cap cells) and base (dorsal wall) of the sensory tissue. The tuning of these two structures, only 15 to 60 μm (micrometer) apart, differed systematically in sharpness and best frequency, revealing a tuned periodic deformation of the CA. The relative motion of the two structures, a potential drive of transduction, demonstrated sharper tuning than either of them. The micromechanical complexity indicates that the bushcricket ear invokes multiple degrees of freedom to achieve frequency separation with a limited number of sensory cells.

Epispadias as an isolated embryologic defect is a rare anomaly, with an incidence of 1 in 117.000 males. Isolated epispadias with continence is a very rare condition comprising less than 10% of all epispadias cases. Epispadias is a closure defect of the dorsal wall of the urethra. The biggest challenges for epispadias treatment are creating adequate penile length, straightening the severely curved penis, and creating a penopubic angle for allowing comfortable penetration of the penis. An 11-year-old boy underwent surgery for his continent penile epispadias in Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital. The surgical technique chosen for this patient was Modified Cantwell-Ransley repair. The dressing was opened on the 3rd day after the operation. The urethral catheter was removed on the 10th day. The patients underwent regular follow-up examinations for 6 months and were evaluated for subjective and objective outcomes. There was no post-operative fistula or urethral narrowing requiring urethral dilatation. The Uroflowmetry and post voiding residual ultrasound result was good. The cosmetic appearance of the penis was satisfying. Outcomes related to sexual activity were not evaluated because the patient had no sexual activity yet.

Between October 2013 and July 2014, 40 polyclad specimens were collected during the systematic sampling of mussel beds along the coast of the Sinop Peninsula (Western Black Sea). Six species were identified, including a new Cryptocelis species. Cryptocelis sinopae sp. nov. is characterized by possessing a prostatic vesicle lined with a ridged fold in its anterior end and the presence of two secretory glandular folds in the distal dorsal wall of male atrium. Additionally, new records of Echinoplana celerrima Haswell, 1907 and Leptoplana mediterranea (Bock, 1913) are reported for the Black Sea and Turkey; and Leptoplana tremellaris (Müller OF, 1774) and Prosthiostomum siphunculus Delle Chiaje, 1822 for the coast of the Black Sea of Turkey. A short description of the reproductive behaviour of Pleioplana okusi Bulnes, Kalkan and Karahan, 2009 and Cryptocelis sinopae sp. nov. will be also provided.

Abstract A number of variable descriptive accounts of Aspersentis megarhynchus (von Linstow, 1892) Golvan, 1960 have been reported from specimens collected from many species of fish in various locations off Antarctic islands. We have described a new population from Notothenia coriiceps Richardson (Nototheniidae) off Galindez Island, West Antarctica, and features not previously reported, resolved the taxonomic controversies and nomenclature, and emended and updated the generic diagnosis taking into account the newly observed structures. These are depicted in microscopic images and include the outer spiral wall of the proboscis receptacle, the thicker dorsal wall of the receptacle compared to the ventral wall, parts of the female reproductive system, the separate cement gland ducts, the dorsal position of the male gonopore and more detail of proboscis hooks and trunk spines. It is surprising that the newly observed features were missed from the many descriptions of A. megarhynchus created since the original description. The variability in A. megarhynchus is noted with a comparison of the morphometrics of our specimens vs. those in six other descriptions. We also analysed the metal composition of hooks and spines using energy-dispersive X-ray analysis and concluded a molecular characterization of the species based on 18S DNA gene, with related phylogenetic analyses.

A twenty-year-old, male, intact alpaca with a history of anorexia, progressive weakness and recumbency was euthanized because of a poor prognosis and clinical deterioration. The animal was submitted for necropsy at the pathology department of Dierengezondheidszorg Vlaanderen (DGZ) diagnostic lab. A full necropsy was performed and showed a large firm white mass measuring 18x8x10 cm attached to the dorsal wall of gastric compartment 1 (C1) and expanding to the abdominal aorta. Miliary small white metastatic nodules were present on the pleura and peritoneum (carcinomatosis). Multiple small white metastatic nodules were also present in the parenchyma of the liver. On histological investigation, this neoplasia was characterized as squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).

Background: The human sacrum is a large, triangular shield-shaped bone formed by the fusion of five separate vertebrae along with the inter-vertebral discs. Gross morphology of sacrum shows a concave ventral surface, a convex dorsal surface and a triangular sacral canal. The sacral canal consists of an anterior wall formed by the fusion of the posterior aspect of the bodies of sacral vertebrae and the dorsal wall is formed by the fused laminae, spines and ossified ligamentum flava. Spina bifida is a developmental defect of sacral vertebrae, where the dorsal wall of sacral canal is partially or completely absent. The present study is an attempt to verify the incidence of complete agenesis of dorsal wall of sacral canal.Methods: Eighty six dry human sacra were collected from the undergraduate students and department of anatomy of three different medical colleges of Uttar Pradesh for the study of dorsal wall of sacral canal. Results: out of eighty six bones studied, two (2.33%) of the bones showed complete absence of the dorsal wall of the sacral canal.Conclusions: Complete agenesis of dorsal wall of sacral canal may lead to partial or complete failure of caudal epidural anaesthesia. Association between dorsal sacral agenesis and some other congenital malformations have also been reported by few authors. Anatomical knowledge of these variations of dorsal wall of sacral canal is important for anaesthetists, radiologists and spine surgeons.

Many works of domestic and foreign scientists are devoted to the study of etiological factors, pathogenesis, as well as the development of effective methods of diagnosis and therapy for symptomatic infertility of cows, however, insufficient attention is paid to cytological examination of the genital organs.So the goal of our work was to study the cytology of vaginal mucus at the symptomatic form of infertility of cows. The article presents the cytological composition of vaginal mucus from the mucous membrane of the caudal section of the cervix, the lateral surface of the vagina and the dorsal wall of the vaginal vestibule. Research was carried out with 5 groups of cows 4–5 years old cows 6 animals in each, weighing 500–600 kg, with an average productivity of 7500 kg of milk per lactation. The tests were cows were on the 18–24 day after insemination and during the sexual cycle braking, research of the joint course of uterus and hypotension of the ovarian, the presence of persistent corpus luteum and subclinical chronic endometritis, cysts and persistent corpus luteum of the ovarian body. For sub-clinical chronic endometritis, basal cells (32–41 %) are found in wet prep with vaginal mucosa, which are arranged in layers, parabasal (22–6 %) and superficial (5–21 %), but more interstitial (37–66 %), and bare neutrophil nuclei. According to hypofunction of ovaries in vaginal smears, neutrophils, vacuoles in interstitial cell nuclei (44–56 %), basophilic cells (30–43 %), superficial cells (20–21 %), parabasal cells (3–6 %). Basal cell hypofusions were (3–43%), parabasal (3–6 %), interstitial (44–56 %), superficial (20–21 %), and bilateral (12–26 %) (4–5 %) (36–55 %) and (30–33 %). It should be noted that for the functional state of the body, the cells from the cervix are flat. In addition, the drug contains single white blood cells with light cytoplasm without signs of phagocytosis. They are structurally similar to cells of vaginal smear. During the esrtus, the smear is dominated by interstitial and surface cells and white cells, and in the follicular proliferative phase, the number of surface cells increases, while the ovulator phase is characterized by the pronounced maturation of the cells, they are flat and spaced apart.
