To objectively evaluate the color image of an architectural object when changing its spectral quality and luminance in lighting, it is necessary to ensure its accurate fixation. The measurement of the color coordinates of an object provides the fully capture of its appearance, but this does not allow to get an adequate evaluation of the visual impression without visualizing the lighting scene. This requires a thorough procedure of reproducing the same color coordinates for each point of the image and the object with the same angular coordinates. In this work, an attempt is made to develop a numerical criterion for evaluating the quality of color rendering of the camera as a fixer of color visual impression of the selected scene. The development of a numerical detailed method for evaluation of the quality of color rendering of cameras will allow capturing more reliably such a subjective concept as the correspondence of the visual impression of the real scene and the image file of this scene. The digital format, which contains information about the object, avoids the problems associated with aging of the image. The proposed method of developing ways to numerically evaluate color distortion in photography is considered on the example of digital cameras Nikon D300s, Sony DSC-H5. The described approach for the case of known spectral characteristics allows to unambiguously link the calculated reaction of the camera with the chromaticity coordinates of spectrally pure colors. Modern methods of evaluating the quality of light sources (IES TM-30-15) allow evaluation of the direction of the shift. The proposed indicator – graph E (λi) numerically characterizes the difference between the reaction of the camera and the reaction of the human eye and does not give an idea in which direction there is a difference, conditionally red or blue image compared to the natural scene, but is the simplest and most understandable to the untrained user. It is shown that with an accuracy of measuring spectral characteristics of 1% for the considered example with Nikon D300s, this indicator at different wavelengths is calculated with an uncertainty of not more than 0.002.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to discuss the relationship between bra's visual impression and bra parts, and then to explore the application of visual impression in bra design.Design/methodology/approachFirstly, 82 female undergraduates are asked to answered this questionnaire online, which is about the importance of parts in bra design. In the part of data analysis, the method of principal part analysis (PCA) are used to get the relationship between bra's parts, and reduce dimension of factors that influence bra design. After that, those group of features are further discussed from the perspective of visual design. Finally, design an application based on conclusion.FindingsTo get the influence features of bra appearance and improve the visual design effect, this paper matches the bra parts with visual features (color, texture, shape and space) and presents four main features of bra design: “color,” “visual texture,” “design shape” and “spatial expression” together with corresponding bra parts and technique of expression. Moreover, user interface in bra cloud customization is designed.Practical implicationsThe conclusion, which shows the corresponding relationship between bra visual effect and its basic parts, has an important role in bra visual design. First, it can be useful for design idea with different technique of expression, which may supply a theoretical basis for design. Secondly, the combination of bra parts and visual features can be used to evaluate the appearance.Originality/valueDiscussing the bra visual impression based on bra's basic parts and visual features provides a theoretical method for bra design and its appearance evaluation.

A headphone-based virtual sound image can not be perceived as perfectly externalized if the acoustic of the synthesized room does not match that of the real listening environment. This effect has been well explored and is known as the room divergence effect (RDE). The RDE is important for perceived externalization of virtual sounds if listeners are aware of the room-related auditory information provided by the listening environment. In the case of virtual reality (VR) applications, users get a visual impression of the virtual room, but may not be aware of the auditory information of this room. It is unknown whether the acoustic congruence between the synthesized (binaurally rendered) room and the visual-only virtual listening environment is important for externalization. VR-based psychoacoustic experiments were performed and the results reveal that perceived externalization of virtual sounds depends on listeners’ expectations of the acoustic of the visual-only virtual room. The virtual sound images can be perceived as externalized, although there is an acoustic divergence between the binaurally synthesized room and the visual-only virtual listening environment. However, the “correct” room information in binaural sounds may lead to degraded externalization if the acoustic properties of the room do not match listeners’ expectations.

Especially in urban areas, green spaces are important recreational destinations, yet they are often exposed to high levels of traffic noise. Therefore, it should be investigated to what extent the design of green spaces affects the perception of noise within the green spaces. For this purpose, four soundwalks with a total of 34 participants were conducted in the Großer Garten in Dresden, Germany. A range of acoustic and perceptual properties were measured and examined. Furthermore, the green space was characterised with regard to its vegetative design and the visibility of the noise sources, as well as evaluated by the participants with respect to visual impression and appropriateness. The statistical evaluation has shown that the visual impression, the appropriateness and the masking of the noise sources correlate significantly with the perceived loudness and pleasantness - but not with the eventfulness. With regard to vegetation, it was found that the diversity of vegetation correlates significantly with all three parameters of individual noise perception, whereas the quantity of vegetation does not. Thus, it can be said that appealing design, masking of the noise sources and diversity of vegetation reduce individual noise perception and therefore increase the recreational value.

Through a comprehensive evaluation of the spaces of 25 railway stations, where power-saving operations are being conducted due to an earthquake, the effects of various components of the space on users’ psychology were reviewed. For the platforms of railway stations, which are divided into ‘island platforms’ and ‘side platforms’ the ‘physical quantity measurement’ and ‘impression evaluation’ were assessed. When a simple power-saving method, such as partial lighting up is adopted, it has been shown that there is a negative effect on the users, both physically and psychologically. In particular, in the case of outdoor platforms, there is a concern that glare and anxiety due to contrast may increase; therefore, it is necessary to utilize the reflective surfaces effectively. Floor illuminance is fundamental to lighting design. However, some areas cannot be evaluated by floor illuminance alone. The difference in the results of the impression evaluation in five areas with floor illuminance around 50 lx was widely distributed, and it was found that the shape and material of the space affected the results. If platform screen doors are installed, a lighting method that can evenly illuminate the interior of the space is necessary. By reviewing each factor that determines the visual impression, it was revealed that the lighting location and lighting method were significantly affected.

Although Spy DS (SpyGlass DS Direct Visualization System) is considered to be useful for the diagnosis of bile duct strictures and the treatment of bile duct stones, there is limited data to date validating its efficacy. We hence retrospectively evaluated the clinical outcomes of the use of Spy DS in a large number of patients. A total of 183 patients who underwent Spy DS-guided procedures for indeterminate bile duct strictures (n = 93) and bile duct stones (n = 90) were analyzed retrospectively. All patients (93/93) with bile duct strictures successfully underwent visual observation, and 95.7% (89/93) of these patients successfully underwent direct biopsy. The sensitivity, specificity, and overall accuracy were 94.7%, 83.3%, and 90.3%, respectively, for visual impression; 80.9%, 100%, and 89.2%, respectively, for histopathological analysis of a direct biopsy; and 96.5%, 91.7%, and 94.6%, respectively, for visual impression combined with biopsy. Successful visualization of the stones was achieved in 98.9% (89/90) of the patients, and complete stone removal was achieved in 92.2% (83/90) of the patients, with an average of 3.3 procedures. The adverse events rate was 17.5% (32/183; cholangitis in 15 patients, fever the following day in 25, pancreatitis in 1, hemorrhage in 1, and gastrointestinal perforation in 1). No administration of antibiotics before the procedure was found to be a statistically significant risk factor for the development of fever after the procedure (p < 0.01). Spy DS-guided procedures are effective for the diagnosis and treatment of bile duct lesions and can be performed with a low risk of serious adverse events.

The article is devoted to the ballet “Les Noces de Pelée et de Thetis” which was produced in 1693 in the Petit Bourbon Palace in Paris (according to the rules of the French theater of that time period) in order to complement the opera with the same name composed by Carlo Caproli. The basis for the plot of the production was the myth widely disseminated in art works about the mortal Peleus and the Nereid Thetis, transformed in correspondence with the aesthetics of that time. The Dance entrées followed each scene of the Italian opera and were connected with its each content, in its turn, forming a consistent, logically delineated narration. The published libretto conveys the plot, and at times the outer form of the action quite vividly and fi guratively. A description of the decorations and machines used in the ballet has also been preserved, as the result of which in our time it becomes possible to create a visual impression from the production. In addition, important defi ning details capable of providing a perception not only of the protagonists’ outward appearances, but also of a concrete distribution of roles between the performers are the sketches for numerous costumes preserved up to our time. Thereby, it turns out that in 17th century musical performance a considerable role is played by its visual solution, which, having been preserved in iconographic materials, is capable of helping create an impression from the overall conception of the production a few centuries after it happened.
