Abstract This article tells the story of an organization based in Copenhagen, Denmark, which supported the Liberation struggle in the Third World from 1969 until April 1989. It focus on the support to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (pflp). The story is told in a historical and global context. The text explains the strategy and tactic behind the support-work. It explains how the different forms of solidarity work developed over two decades (for a more detailed account of the history of the group, see Kuhn, 2014). Finally, the article offers an evaluation of the past and a perspective on the future struggle for a socialist Palestine.

PurposeBased on self-determination theory (SDT), the present study aims to assess the effect of managerial (manager trust and support), work (job autonomy) and individual (intrinsic motivation) characteristics on job performance of telecommuters in a pre- and post-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak period and is further studied longitudinally after six months of continued mandatory telecommuting.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from information technology (IT) sector employees in three phases and model fitness, reliability and validity of the data for all three phases were assessed through CFA models, while the hypotheses were tested through path analysis.FindingsPerceived manager trust and support increases job performance and the effect strengthens with an increase in telecommuting extent. Job autonomy had similar effects with the exception that employees did not enjoy autonomy when mandatory telecommuting arrangement was initially introduced. Lastly, intrinsic motivation fades away as employees continue to work permanently from their homes.Practical implicationsPermanent full-time telecommuting is expected to continue for the unforeseeable future; the present study suggests that while ensuring increased trust, support and job autonomy to employees, managers must also ensure that employees do not feel professionally isolated and attempt to keep individuals intrinsically motivated.Originality/valueThe authors assess the effect of managerial (manager trust and support), work (job autonomy) and individual (intrinsic motivation) characteristics on job performance under three different types of telecommuting arrangements (voluntary part-time, mandatory full-time and continued mandatory full-time) by collecting data in three different time frames from the same individuals.

Traditional aircraft maintenance support work is mainly based on structured data. Unstructured data, such as text data, have not been fully used, which means there is a waste of resources. These unstructured data contain a great storehouse of fault knowledge, which could provide decision support for aircraft maintenance support work. Therefore, a text-based fault diagnosis model is proposed in this paper. The proposed method uses Word2vec to map text words into vector space, and the extracted text feature vectors are then input into the classifier based on a stacking ensemble learning scheme. Its performance has been validated using a real aircraft fault text dataset. The results show that the fault diagnosis accuracy of the proposed method is 97.35%, which is about 2% higher than that of the suboptimal method.

Mielenterveyshäiriöt aiheuttavat yhteiskunnalle kustannuksia terveydenhuollon, sairauspoissaolojen ja työn tuottavuuden alenemisen kautta. Työssä jatkamisen tukeminen on tarpeen inhimillisistä, poliittisista ja taloudellisista syistä. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan henkilöstöjohdon asenteita mielenterveysongelmia kohtaan sekä mielenterveyshäiriöiden vuoksi alentuneen työkyvyn tukemista työpaikoilla. Aineisto on kerätty työpaikkojen henkilöstöjohdolle osoitetulla kyselyllä (n = 300). Abstract Personnel management attitudes and measures to support work ability in Finnish workplaces in connection with mental health disorders Mental health disorders impose costs on society through health expenditure, increased sick leave and declining labor productivity. Support for work continuation is necessary for human, political and economic reasons. The article examines the attitudes of personnel management towards mental health problems and the measures to support reduced work ability in the workplace due to mental disorders. The article is based on a survey addressed to the personnel management of workplaces (n=300). The data was analyzed using statistical methods such as direct distributions, cross-tabulation, logistic regression analysis and statistical tests. Personnel managements’ attitudes towards mental health problems were mostly positive and they wanted transparency from employees, although half of the respondents believed that knowledge of a person’s mental health problem could lead to negative consequences in the workplace. The most common measures to support work ability were flexible working hours and reorganization of work. Work adaptation was more common in the public sector and in large workplaces. In the industrial sector, the measures were fewer and attitudes more negative. The measures were more often used to support all employees’ work ability rather than targeted at mental health rehabilitators. Although personnel management considered the adaptation of work for mental health reasons almost invariably necessary, the measures were still limited. Keywords: mental health problems, work ability, work adaptation, attitudes

Abstract The easy spread of the Covid-19 virus and its fatal effects have caused several Central and Local Governments to reduce activities outside the home including work and school which are replaced with online activities. Lecturers as academics carry out tasks that still have to teach and do Tri Dharma online from home so as to maintain health so as not to infect families but still be productive as a teacher. Based on the formulation of the problem, a descriptive research will be carried out in order to obtain an accurate picture of the field conditions regarding the facts and phenomena being studied. Observations, interviews and data from home owners will form the basis of research and several approaches include non-physical identification and physical identification. The results of this study are to determine the part of the residential room that was developed to anticipate the spread of the Covid 19 virus in the form of implementing health protocols in a residential environment by dividing the rooms of the house and parts of the house that can support work from home.

Youth aged 16–24 years have the highest prevalence of mental illness in Australia, accounting for 26% of all mental illness. Youth mental health peer support work is a promising avenue of support for this population. However, limited research has examined impacts on those who provide youth mental health peer support work. We aimed to identify the benefits and challenges of working in a youth mental health peer support role. Semi-structured qualitative interviews with seven purposefully sampled peer workers from a national youth mental health organisation in Australia were conducted. The interviews were thematically analysed. Six key themes were identified: (1) personal growth, (2) interpersonal factors, (3) organisational factors, (4) boundaries, (5) role acknowledgement, and (6) challenging situations. Key supportive factors included financial reimbursement, training, support, and role-related flexibility. Identified challenges included lack of role acknowledgement, role-related stress, and boundaries. Operating within a youth mental health peer support role is perceived to have positive impacts on personal growth and interpersonal factors, enhanced through financial reimbursement, supervision, and role-related flexibility. Perspectives on the most effective form of role boundaries were diverse however their importance in addressing challenges was emphasised.

Eco-biological expedition research involves the collection of biotic and abiotic material (samples), which is attached to spatio-temporal location. Researchers often use the geographical name of the place instead of the geographical coordinates to indicate the spatial location of a sample. For this reason, an expedition information system must support work with geographical names. The article describes the structure of the expedition database, where the main emphasis is made on geographical names. A method of presenting the official and unofficial names of land and water bodies in a single table is proposed. This way of presenting geographic information makes working with the information system more people-friendly.

This study investigates how clients’ emotions are invoked and reflected in client–worker interactions and themeanings they have regarding leaving home. We concentrate on floating support work, which aims to support people suffering from mental health and substance abuse‐related issues to improve their living in the community. Our theoretical framework is based on the geography of emotions, and we draw on both the interactional and relational approaches thereto. The research material is gathered from Finland and England. We draw on mobile ethnographic and discursive approaches, and our data consists of transcriptions and field notes gathered during floating support visits (N = 19) that took place either at or outside of a client’s home. Our findings demonstrate how the connections between places and emotions, the emotions connected to leaving one’s home, the emotions reflected while being out in the community, and the reflections of emotions after being out in the community are constructed and reflected in client–worker interactions. The study highlights that these emotions are a necessary and demanding part of promoting clients’ social inclusion in the context of floating support work.
