Micronutrient malnutrition or hidden hunger is a serious challenge toward societal well-being. Vigna stipulacea (Lam.) Kuntz (known locally as Minni payaru), is an underutilized legume that has the potential to be a global food legume due to its rich nutrient profile. In the present study, 99 accessions of V. stipulacea were tested for iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), calcium (Ca), protein, and phytate concentrations over two locations for appraisal of stable nutrient-rich sources. Analysis of variance revealed significant effects of genotype for all the traits over both locations. Fe concentration ranged from 29.35–130.96 mg kg–1 whereas Zn concentration ranged from 19.44 to 74.20 mg kg–1 across both locations. The highest grain Ca concentration was 251.50 mg kg–1 whereas the highest grain protein concentration was recorded as 25.73%. In the case of grain phytate concentration, a genotype with the lowest value is desirable. IC622867 (G-99) was the lowest phytate containing accession at both locations. All the studied traits revealed highly significant genotypic variances and highly significant genotype × location interaction though less in magnitude than the genotypic variance. GGE Biplot analysis detected that, for grain Fe, Zn, and Ca concentration the ‘ideal’ genotypes were IC331457 (G-75), IC331610 (G-76), and IC553564 (G-60), respectively, whereas for grain protein concentration IC553521 (G-27) was the most “ideal type.” For phytate concentration, IC351407 (G-95) and IC550523 (G-99) were considered as ‘ideal’ and ‘desirable,’ respectively. Based on the desirability index, Location 1 (Kanpur) was identified as ideal for Fe, Zn, Ca, and phytate, and for grain protein concentration, Location 2 (New Delhi) was the ideal type. A significant positive correlation was detected between grain Fe as well as grain Zn and protein concentration considering the pooled analysis over both the locations where as a significant negative association was observed between phytate and protein concentration over the locations. This study has identified useful donors and enhanced our knowledge toward the development of biofortified Vigna cultivars. Promoting domestication of this nutrient-rich semi-domesticated, underutilized species will boost sustainable agriculture and will contribute toward alleviating hidden hunger.

Abstract Atomized spray cutting fluid (ASCF) is a sophisticated machining technique that achieves higher productivity, enhanced surface quality, extended tool life, and cost benefits. This research aims to analyze the influence of cutting process parameters on Inconel 718 alloy turning in dry and ASCF cutting environments. The critical machining indices such as surface roughness, machining cost, power consumption, and tool life were analyzed concerning these two cooling environments. The cutting parameters were optimized using desirability functional analysis and two types of multicriteria decision making (MCDM) method, such as additive ratio assessment method (ARAS) and combinative distance-based assessment (CODAS) method, were investigated. The composite desirability index (CD) of optimum parameter setting(A2B1C2D2) is improved by 6.34 % compared to the initial parameter setting (A2B1C2D1). The optimum parameters from the MCDM technique are obtained as a cutting speed of 200 m/min, feed rate of 0.08 mm/rev, and depth of cut of 0.2 mm under ASCF environment. ASCF machining significantly minimize the surface roughness, machining cost and power consumption, maximize the tool life by about 16%, 51%, 17% and 48% respectively as compared with dry machining

In this research, the effects of matrix variability and thickness on the properties of a flexible nanocomposite film were investigated. The nanocomposite film was prepared from the blends of 1 kg cassava starch, 45–55% (w/v) glycerol and 0–2% (w/v) zincnanoparticles in thickness ranging from 15 −17 µm. The barrier, mechanical, and thermal properties were determined experimentally. The optimal effects of the thickness and the matrix variability on the properties were determined using Response Surface Methodology. Results showed that the barrier properties increased with glycerol concentration but decreased with thickness. Reduced modulus and tensile strength increased with an increase in the matrix variability. The film was thermally stable up to 60.43oC with only 2% degradation. The optimal film contains 55% glycerol, 2% zinc nanoparticles with a thickness of 17 µm at a desirability index of 0.95. This can therefore be essential for industrial application

Social networking sites have determined radical changes in human life, demanding investigations on online socialization mechanisms. The knowledge acquired on in-person sociability could guide researchers to consider both environmental and genetic features as candidates of online socialization. Here, we explored the impact of the quality of adult attachment and the genetic properties of the Serotonin Transporter Gene (5-HTTLPR) on Instagram social behavior. Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised questionnaire was adopted to assess 57 Instagram users’ attachment pattern in close relationships with partners. Genotypes from the 5-HTTLPR/rs25531 region were extracted from the users’ buccal mucosa and analyzed. Users’ Instagram social behavior was examined from four indexes: number of posts, number of followed users (“followings”) and number of followers, and the Social Desirability Index calculated from the followers to followings ratio. Although no interaction between rs25531 and ECR-R dimensions was found, an association between avoidance in close relationships and Instagram number of followings emerged. Post hoc analyses revealed adult avoidance from the partner predicts the Instagram number of followings with good evidence. Moreover, users reporting high avoidance levels displayed fewer followings than users who reported low levels of avoidance. This research provides a window into the psychobiological understanding of online socialization on Instagram.

Amebiasis is a neglected tropical disease caused by Entamoeba histolytica. Although the disease burden varies geographically, amebiasis is estimated to account for some 55,000 deaths and millions of infections globally per year. Children and travelers are among the groups with the greatest risk of infection. There are currently no licensed vaccines for prevention of amebiasis, although key immune correlates for protection have been proposed from observational studies in humans. We previously described the development of a liposomal adjuvant formulation containing two synthetic TLR ligands (GLA and 3M-052) that enhanced antigen-specific fecal IgA, serum IgG2a, a mixed IFNγ and IL-17A cytokine profile from splenocytes, and protective efficacy following intranasal administration with the LecA antigen. By applying a statistical design of experiments (DOE) and desirability function approach, we now describe the optimization of the dose of each vaccine formulation component (LecA, GLA, 3M-052, and liposome) as well as the excipient composition (acyl chain length and saturation; PEGylated lipid:phospholipid ratio; and presence of antioxidant, tonicity, or viscosity agents) to maximize desired immunogenicity characteristics while maintaining physicochemical stability. This DOE/desirability index approach led to the identification of a lead candidate composition that demonstrated immune response durability and protective efficacy in the mouse model, as well as an assessment of the impact of each active vaccine formulation component on protection. Thus, we demonstrate that both GLA and 3M-052 are required for statistically significant protective efficacy. We also show that immunogenicity and efficacy results differ in female vs male mice, and the differences appear to be at least partly associated with adjuvant formulation composition.

Once thought to be a minor disease, foliar blast disease of pearl millet, caused by Magnaporthe grisea, has recently emerged as an important biotic constraint for pearl millet production in India. The presence of a wider host range as well as high pathogenic heterogeneity complicates host–pathogen dynamics. Furthermore, environmental factors play a significant role in exacerbating the disease severity. An attempt was made to unravel the genotype-by-environment interactions for identification and validation of stable resistant genotypes against foliar blast disease through multi-environment testing. A diversity panel consisting of 250 accessions collected from over 20 different countries was screened under natural epiphytotic conditions in five environments. A total of 43 resistant genotypes were found to have high and stable resistance. Interestingly, most of the resistant lines were late maturing. Combined ANOVA of these 250 genotypes exhibited significant genotype-by-environment interaction and indicated the involvement of crossover interaction with a consistent genotypic response. This justifies the necessity of multi-year and multi-location testing. The first two principal components (PCs) accounted for 44.85 and 29.22% of the total variance in the environment-centered blast scoring results. Heritability-adjusted genotype plus genotype × environment interaction (HA-GGE) biplot aptly identified “IP 11353” and “IP 22423, IP 7910 and IP 7941” as “ideal” and “desirable” genotypes, respectively, having stable resistance and genetic buffering capacity against this disease. Bootstrapping at a 95% confidence interval validated the recommendations of genotypes. Therefore, these genotypes can be used in future resistance breeding programs in pearl millet. Mega-environment delineation and desirability index suggested Jaipur as the ideal environment for precise testing of material against the disease and will increase proper resource optimization in future breeding programs. Information obtained in current study will be further used for genome-wide association mapping of foliar blast disease in pearl millet.

The machining of ceramic materials is challenging and often impossible to realize with conventional machining tools. In various manufacturing applications, rotary ultrasonic milling (RUM) shows strengths, in particular for the development of high-quality micro-features in ceramic materials. The main variables that influence the performance and price of the product are surface roughness, edge chipping (EC), and material removal rate (MRR) during the processing of ceramics. RUM has been considered in this research for the milling of micro-pockets in bioceramic alumina (Al2O3). Response surface methodology in the context of a central composite design (CCD) is being used to plan the experiments. The impacts of important RUM input parameters concerning cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut, frequency, and amplitude have been explored on the surface roughness in terms of arithmetic mean value (Ra), the EC, and the MRR of the machined pockets. The main effect and the interaction effect of the implemented RUM parameters show that by providing a lower feed rate and cutting depth levels and elevated frequency and cutting speed, the Ra and the EC can be minimized. At greater levels of feed rate and cutting depth, higher MRR can be obtained. The influence of RUM input parameters on the surface morphology was also recorded and analyzed using scanning electron microscopic (SEM) images. The study of the energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) shows that there is no modification in the alumina bioceramic material. Additionally, a multi-response optimization method has been applied by employing a desirability approach with the core objectives of minimizing the EC and Ra and maximizing the MRR of the milled pockets. The obtained experimental values for Ra, EC, and MRR at an optimized parametric setting were 0.301 µm, 12.45 µm, and 0.873 mm3/min respectively with a combined desirability index value of 0.73.
