ABSTRAK. Bandar Lampung merupakan wilayah perkotaan padat penduduk yang terdiri atas daratan dan perairan dengan beberapa dataran tinggi dan pegunungan yang terbentang di wilayah ini. Untuk mendukung pembangunan yang berkelanjutan di sebuah kawasan kota diperlukan konsep penataan wilayah yang mempertimbangkan segala aspek, salah satunya adalah aspek potensi bencana. Salah satu bencana yang berpotensi terjadi di Bandar Lampung, khususnya di Kecamatan Panjang, adalah gerakan massa/longsoran. Berdasarkan penelitian sebelumnya, daerah ini terekam memiliki beberapa titik sejarah longsor tetapi belum ada mitigasi/penanggulangan yang diaplikasikan khusus untuk jenis bencana tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui susunan batuan yang berada pada zona rawan longsor Kecamatan Panjang menggunakan metode geolistrik resistivitas serta untuk mengetahui hasil penilaian keteknikan tanah yang diperoleh dari hasil analisis litologi menggunakan X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). Hasil analisis dua lintasan geolistrik mengindikasikan adanya tiga lapisan litologi pada daerah penelitian, yaitu sedimen tuf dengan nilai resistivitas dan kedalaman antara (1–40 Ωm; 0,4–4 m), zona kontak atau bidang gelincir (40–120 Ωm; 2–4 m), dan breksi padu dengan komponen batuan beku (> 120 Ωm; 2–22 m). Selanjutnya berdasarkan hasil analisis penilaian keteknikan tanah, sedimen tuf sebagai lapisan permukaan yang mengalami longsoran diidentifikasi memiliki sifat keteknikan litologi yang rentan karena telah mengalami oksidasi dan pelapukan yang cukup intensif. Data yang diperoleh ini diharapkan dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai data dukung penataan wilayah berbasis potensi bencana.ABSTRACT. Bandar Lampung is a densely populated urban area consisting of land and water with several plateaus and mountains that stretch across this region. To support sustainable development in a city area, it is necessary to have a regional arrangement concept that considers all aspects, one of which is the potential disaster aspect. One of the potential disasters in Bandar Lampung, especially in Panjang District is a mass movement/landslide. Based on previous research, this area has been recorded as having several historical points of landslides, but there is no mitigation/response specifically for this type of disaster. The purpose of this study was to determine the arrangement of rocks that are in the landslide-prone zone in Panjang District using the geoelectric resistivity method and to analyze the soil engineering assessment obtained from the results of lithological analysis using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The results of the geoelectric analysis indicate that there are three lithological layers in the study area; namely tuff sediments with resistivity values and depths between (1–40 Ωm; 0.4–4 m), clay sand (40–120 Ωm; 2–4 m), and solid breccias with igneous rock components (>120 Ωm; 2–22 m). Furthermore, based on the results of the analysis of soil engineering assessments, tuff sediment as a surface layer that has experienced landslides has been identified as having susceptible lithological engineering properties because it has undergone quite intensive oxidation and weathering. The data obtained is expected to be used as supporting data for disaster potential-based regional planning.

AbstractThis study investigates the interrelationships between National Weather Service (NWS) county warning area (CWA) tornado risk, exposure, and societal vulnerability. CWA climatological tornado risk is determined using historical tornado event data, and exposure and vulnerability are assessed by employing present-day population, housing, socioeconomic, and demographic metrics. In addition, tornado watches, warnings, warning lead times, false alarm warnings, and unwarned tornado reports are examined in relation to CWA risk, exposure, and vulnerability. Results indicate that southeastern U.S. CWAs are more susceptible to tornado impacts because of their greater tornado frequencies and larger damage footprints intersecting more vulnerable populations (e.g., poverty and manufactured homes). Midwest CWAs experience fewer tornadoes relative to Southeast and southern plains CWAs but encompass faster tornado translational speeds and greater population densities where higher concentrations of vulnerable individuals often reside. Northern plains CWAs contain longer-tracked tornadoes on average and larger percentages of vulnerable elderly and rural persons. Southern plains CWAs experience the highest tornado frequencies in general and contain larger percentages of minority Latinx populations. Many of the most socially vulnerable CWAs have shorter warning lead times and greater percentages of false alarm warnings and unwarned tornadoes. Study findings provide NWS forecasters with an improved understanding of the relationships between tornado risk, exposure, vulnerability, and warning outcomes within their respective CWAs. Findings may also assist NWS Weather Forecast Offices and the Warning Decision Training Division with developing training materials aimed at increasing NWS forecaster knowledge of how tornado risk, exposure, and vulnerability factors influence local tornado disaster potential.

Lightning-caused fires (LCFs) and fire environments influenced by thunderstorms are increasingly implicated in extreme wildfire events around the world, with devastating consequences to society and the environment. However, the disaster potential inherent to LCFs is often neglected, especially where the fire regime is determined mostly by anthropogenic ignitions. Such disconnect between perceived risk and actual risk is illustrated with the Iberian Peninsula, where thunderstorm-driven wildfires are comparatively rare but have resulted in large-scale burning and considerable loss of human life. Even low LCF regions should embrace fire management strategies able to cope with LCFs.

ABSTRACT Objectives: The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) calls for the inclusion of office-based pediatricians in disaster preparedness and response efforts. However, there is little research about disaster preparedness and response on the part of pediatric practices. This study describes the readiness of pediatric practices to respond to disaster and delineates factors associated with increased preparedness. Methods: An AAP survey was distributed to members to assess the state of pediatric offices in readiness for disaster. Potential predictor variables used in chi-square analysis included community setting, primary employment setting, area of practice, and previous disaster experience. Results: Three-quarters (74%) of respondents reported some degree of disaster preparedness (measured by 6 indicators including written plans and maintaining stocks of supplies), and approximately half (54%) reported response experience (measured by 3 indicators, including volunteering to serve in disaster areas). Respondents who reported disaster preparation efforts were more likely to have signed up for disaster response efforts, and vice versa. Conclusions: These results contribute information about the state of pediatric physician offices and can aid in developing strategies for augmenting the inclusion of office-based pediatricians in community preparedness and response efforts.

The ecological situation in Batu has a significant potential disaster, one of the areasthat have this is Tulungrejo village in the Bumiaji sub-district of Batu city. In general,there have been thirty-two disaster outbreaks in the Bumiaji sub-district; the areawith the most disaster risk is Tulungrejo village. Therefore, as an awareness ofemergency response situations, participatory mapping for disaster potential risk isessential to conduct by using the information of local people. This research appliedthe Participatory Geographic Information System (Pgis) as the mapping approach.The purpose of using this approach is to produce a disaster risk potential map asthe reference in determining the priority of disaster risk reduction based on theinformation that exists in the local area. This participatory mapping is an essentialpart of creating the social-technical resilience by the community.

Indonesia is an archipelago surrounded by cluster of volcanoes known as the ring of fire. Indonesian volcanoes located within the range of the fire ring has the natural disaster potential of volcano eruption. The main concern in this study is the number of tribes people / communities in Indonesia who live in the slopes of the volcano, and the other factor is the fact that people living on the slopes are mostly came from low-education background, making it difficult for the government to socializing the danger. This study will discuss the design and stages of appropriate communication to convey the volcano eruption socialization to the tribes that live in the volcano area using the visual language of infographic. The case studies of this research will take a sampling of the Tengger tribe who inhabit the area of Mount Bromo as one of the active volcano on the Java island, Indonesia. The data retrieving methods used in this study are in-depth interviews, direct observation, and the collection of related books and journal literature. Contributions and model of this research is expected to be applicable to inform people who inhabit the volcano areas in Indonesia of the proper action to take when the volcano eruption strikes.
