Enhancing the Skills of Memorizing the Five Basics of Tajweed in Holy Quran Recitation This article aims to study students’ memorization skills on the five basics of tajweed when reciting the Quran. This study uses a quantitative approach in the form of pre and post-tests on 10 form 2 students (DLP) from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Panglima Bukit Gantang, Parit Buntar, Perak. Before the researcher introduces a new method of teaching tajweed, the researcher must first detect the weaknesses of the students. A preliminary survey was done by checking students’ reciting during teaching sessions and it was found that most students are not able to memorize the five basics of tajweed apart from there are many errors in reciting. So, the researcher introduced the method of the right-hand finger to ensure that students can memorize the five basics of tajweed and recite the holy Quran well. The findings of the study show that students are not only able to memorize tajweed but can also recognize the types of recitation. The findings of this study also contribute to the basic information on the function of tanween (ًٌٍ ) and nun sakinah (نْ). The right-handed finger method has its advantages and this method needs to be expanded as a teaching aid in the mainstream.

This paper aims to develop a Text-To-Speech (TTS) synthesis system for the holly quran recitation, to properly helps reciters and facilitates its use. In this work, the unit selection method is adopted and improved to reach a good speech quality. The proposed approach consists mainly of two steps. In the first one, an Expert System (ES) module is integrated by employing Arabic, Quran language, phonetic and phonological features. This part was considered as a preselection to optimize the synthesis algorithm's speed. The second step is the final selection of units by minimizing a concatenation cost function and a forward-backward dynamic programming search. The system is evaluated by native and non-native Arabic speakers. The results show that the goal of a correct Quran recitation by respecting its reading rules was reached, with 97 % of speech intelligibility and 72.13% of naturalness

Stress and anxiety are common among intensive care unit (ICU) patients especially those who are on mechanical ventilation. Non-pharmacological interventions such as music and prayer are recommended because they are opioid sparing, easy to provide, cheap and safe. There is a growing body of evidence on the effects of Holy Quran Recitation (HQR) in reducing stress and anxiety in critically ill Muslim patients. The aim of this review is to evaluate the physiological and psychological effects of HQR specifically in ICU setting. This review was performed on articles published between 2007 and 2018. Extensive search was done using PubMed, ISI Web of Knowledge, Scopus and Google Scholar. Systematic review articles are also assessed and relevant literatures are hand searched based on reference lists and citations made in key publications. Studies related to HQR which were done outside adult ICU setting were excluded. A total of nine articles are included in the final list for detail analysis. Findings of this review revealed six studies with significant results in improving stress responses, hemodynamic stability and conscious levels. HQR is a potential nonpharmacological tool to reduce stress and can also be used as auditory stimulus to improve conscious level in comatose patients. More studies in this area are recommended aiming for low risk of bias, appropriate calculation of sample size and adequately powered to detect significant outcomes.

Background: Anxiety is one of the most common psychological problems after myocardial infarction and can lead to many problems in acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Two possible ways to reduce anxiety are to listen to music and to recite the Holy Quran, the effects of which have never been compared to date. Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of listening to instrumental music and listening to Quran recitation on the anxiety level of patients with acute coronary syndrome. Methods: This semi-experimental study was conducted among 96 patients with ACS referred to Hajar Hospital, Shahrekord, Iran, from 3/10/2019 to 4/30/2019. The patients were entered into the study using the convenience sampling method and then randomly assigned to the three groups of Quran recitation, instrumental music, and control. In this study, the patients’ anxiety level was measured using Spielberger’s state-trait anxiety inventory (STAI) before and after listening to Quran recitation and instrumental music. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 16 using descriptive and analytical tests, including paired samples t-test, Chi-square, and one-way ANOVA. Results: Anxiety level decreased from 43.1 ± 6.15 to 38.5 ± 3.82 in Quran recitation group (P < 0.001) and from 44.2 ± 1.21 to 39.1 ± 4.17 in the instrumental music group (P = 0.035), and from 46.3 ± 3.84 to 44.7 ± 6.21 in the control group (P < 0.001). There was no significant difference between the three groups before the program. However, the mean score of anxiety level showed a significant difference, indicating that listening to Quran recitation had a greater effect than listening to instrumental music in reducing the patients’ anxiety (P = 0.02). Conclusions: Both interventions can be useful in decreasing the anxiety level of patients with ACS; however, the Holy Quran recitation had a greater effect in this regard.

Background: Mechanically ventilated patients experience many stressors related to their physiological conditions, treatments, and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) environment itself. As patients are recovered from the respiratory problems, they can be weaned from mechanical ventilation (MV). Weaning represents a major challenge in critically ill patients' management. Weaning from MV imposes more stress on the patients as it leads to feeling of helplessness. Excessive and inappropriate use of sedatives can result in cardiovascular instability, prolongation of MV and ventilator associated pneumonia. Critical care nurses have an important role in alleviating stress manifestations and helping patients’ holistic healing. Non-pharmacological approach is recommended to be used prior to or in conjunction with sedatives use. Listening to Holy Quran Recitation (HQR) is a kind of spiritual support for Muslim patients. Spiritual care has been recommended as it can affect patient’s comfort. Accordingly, spiritual support strategies including HQR have been recently proposed to achieve better outcomes of critically ill patients which is the aim of the current study. Methods: A quasi experimental research design was used in this study. Physiological and psychological parameters were measured before and after HQR in the study group. Results: All differences between physiological and psychological parameters of the study group before and after HQR were statistically significant (P= 0.00). All differences between initial and the final measurement values of physiological and psychological parameters of the control group were statistically not significant. The mean values of heart rate, respiratory rate, mean arterial blood pressure, and shortness of breath of the study group after HQR were lower than that in the control group. Conclusion: HQR is an effective non-pharmacological strategy to improve vital signs, SpO2, shortness of breath and anxiety level for mechanically ventilated Muslim patients undergoing weaning. In addition, it can increase spontaneous breathing trial (SBT) duration for patients undergoing weaning from MV.
