This study examined the characteristics of “exemplary” teachers according to Israeli–Arab prospective teachers, and the influence of those perceptions on their professional identity. The study is based on the qualitative paradigm using in-depth semi-structured interviews with 33 students studying education in an academic college located in the center of Israel. Findings show that their professional educational identity begins to form while still at school, with exposure to an exceptional teacher in their past. The teacher’s digression from the traditional model of pedagogy in Arab education led them to the formulation of modern mindsets as educators and agents of change.

Although district-level school counseling supervisors often assist with school counselors’ transition from preparation to practice, including hiring practices, research on this phenomenon is limited. Thus, we conducted an exploratory thematic analysis examining 12 district supervisors’ experiences with and perceptions of hiring preservice school counselors. Results included the following two themes: (a) prioritizing the American School Counselor Association National Model and (b) the relevance of school counselors’ previous teaching experiences. The results also provided insight into supervisors’ appreciation of school counselors’ educational identity.

The presence of Muhammadiyah education in educating the nation's life has been going on for more than a century, since its establishment in 1912. Its educational characteristics, which symbolize the personality of Muhammadiyah, have brought progress in education throughout Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke. Data were collected through interviews, observation and documentation. From the research results, it is illustrated that the Muhammadiyah education movement advances education in Muslim minority areas, with its educational identity Al Islam and Muhammadiyah, collegiate management patterns and community cooperation. Muhammadiyah with its solar light brings enlightenment to the progress of education in West Papua, not only for the Muslim community but also for non-Muslims. In accordance with Muhammadiyah's khittah as a reformer, the Muhammadiyah Education movement in West Papua is synonymous with inclusive, pluralist, and moderate concepts. This proves that Muhammadiyah has long been enlightening its rays by carrying out tajdid propagation of its culture in the Muslim minority areas of the Earth of Paradise.

This 4-year longitudinal study examined over-time associations between adolescents’ educational identity, perceived best friends’ balanced relatedness, and best friends’ educational identity. Adolescents (N = 464, Mage = 14.0 years at baseline, 56.0% males, living in the Netherlands) and their self-nominated best friends reported on their educational commitment, in-depth exploration, and reconsideration. Target adolescents also reported on the level of balanced relatedness provided by their best friend. Cross-lagged panel models showed that balanced relatedness significantly predicted adolescents’ reconsideration, and was predicted by in-depth exploration and, in an inconsistent pattern, by commitment. Best friends’ educational identity did not positively predict adolescents’ educational identity. Perceiving a best friend as high on balanced relatedness seems to reduce adolescents’ problematic educational reconsideration, while, in turn, adaptive educational identity processes might foster balanced relatedness.

Abstract The analysis of the educational experience of Armanda Álvaro Alberto at the Escola Regional de Meriti, where for the first time in Brazil efforts were made for the integration between school and Community through the creation of a Mothers Association, indicated the relevance of a question that might seem minor at first sight: thefrequent changé of the name of the school. The different names, while expressions of the search for an educational identity, served as guide Unes for the understanding of the history of the school and of the life-history ofitsfounder and her companions at the Associação Brasileira da Educação. The different names also testify to the importance of the school for the Community of Caxias in the twenties and thirties.
