Sarawak Borneo has long been known for its diverse culture and multi-ethnicity, which is reflected in its arts and crafts. Pua Kumbu and Orang Ulu are famous visual motifs that can be seen on many products from Sarawak, including textiles and paintings, which could potentially be integrated into furniture design as cultural elements. The purpose of this study was to identify the perception, issues and challenges of cultural concepts embedded in furniture design from the perspective of manufacturers, designers and the public. In-depth interviews, surveys and observation were the three qualitative research methods applied in this study at MIFF 2018 and MIFF 2019. In general, the findings from the surveys done in 2018 and 2019 show that manufacturers, designers and consumers agree that cultural elements can be a unique feature and a competitive advantage for furniture design. A range of furniture designs that feature different cultural elements, such as local materials, colors, stories and history, are discussed in this article, which is expected to inspire designers and manufacturers to experiment and explore this approach in furniture. However, to achieve this, manufacturers and designers have to have their own views and strategies on how they interpret cultural-related elements in furniture, based on their consumers’ interests and global market needs.

Some countries have puppet culture in various forms, terms, and ways, including Indonesia. As a country with a diverse culture, it has detailed and comprehensive characteristics and stories related to puppets, especially the Javanese shadow puppet. Some experts have explored its characteristics and found out that it contains many mathematical elements which could be used as a starting point to learn mathematics. The elements, however, still focus on the exploration of geometry material. We hardly find any other material that has been explored as deep as the geometry material in the context of the Javanese shadow puppet. Therefore, this study aims to explore the other elements of mathematics potentially found in this context which—for this example—is the sets material. Besides, this study also discusses the righteous life values that the students could internalize during mathematics learning through shadow puppet culture. We used ethnography to explore it through literature study, documentation, and field notes. We found some interesting elements, characteristics, and patterns in the Javanese shadow puppet, which can be used as a starting point to learn the sets concept. Furthermore, the values and philosophy of the shadow puppet culture harbor the potential to foster the students’ good character and behavior.

India has been a land of diverse culture and traditions. When we say culture it includes many things like language, social customs, food habits, religion and so on. Of this religion seems to be the most influential factor in the life of an individual. It is something which lends meaning and purpose to our life. It is that which binds human beings to the Divine. And this bond can be established through the practise of Bhakti. The concept of Bhakti is an old one. It emphasises devotion to the personal God. Bhakti movement is an important development in the cultural history of India which originated in the south. The saints of Bhakti movement preached personal devotion to God as a means of attaining Salvation. They made use of local language to spread the ideology of Bhakti. Guru Nanak is one of the most influential saints of the Bhakti movement. In his teaching he incorporated ideas both from Hinduism as well as Islam. He revealed the truth of monotheism, importance of the recitation of God’s name with utmost devotion, need of a Guru for salvation. He tried to bridge the gap between the two communities of Islam and Hinduism and eradicate social problems by focusing on the truth of monotheism and the concept of equality.

Bacteria from the distinctive Planctomycetes phylum are well spread around the globe; they are capable of colonizing many habitats, including marine, freshwater, terrestrial, and even extreme habitats such as hydrothermal vents and hot springs. They can also be found living in association with other organisms, such as macroalgae, plants, and invertebrates. While ubiquitous, only a small fraction of the known diversity includes axenic cultures. In this study, we aimed to apply conventional techniques to isolate, in diverse culture media, planctomycetes from two beaches of the Portuguese north-coast by using sediments, red, green, and brown macroalgae, the shell of the mussel Mytilus edulis, an anemone belonging to the species Actinia equina, and seawater as sources. With this approach, thirty-seven isolates closely related to seven species from the families Planctomycetaceae and Pirellulaceae (class Planctomycetia) were brought into pure culture. Moreover, we applied an iChip inspired in-situ culturing technique to successfully retrieve planctomycetes from marine sediments, which resulted in the isolation of three additional strains, two affiliated to the species Novipirellula caenicola and one to a putative novel Rubinisphaera. This work enlarges the number of isolated planctomycetal strains and shows the adequacy of a novel methodology for planctomycetes isolation.

The cornerstone for globalization was laid down by brave adventures who were on a quest to discover countries which were isolated from the rest of the world. The diverse culture, cuisine, attire of the people from the newly discovered countries was something which attracted more travelers. It is evident that the lockdown has had severe impact on all global economies whether it would have a lasting impact depends upon on the growing rate of each country and their ability to indulge in production activities even with the restrictions in place due to the rising cases and this solely lies in the hands of the government. If a sizeable number of citizens are vaccinated this would help in achieving herd immunity which would result in decreased infection rate. As the cases decrease the government is more prone to relaxing the lockdown restrictions and lift the curfew which would aid the industries to start production and gradually the economic activities would flourish.

Abstract:‘Motivation’ is that factor which acts as a driving force for students to work consistently towards achieving excellence. Owing to the diverse culture and socio-economic factors, different students are motivated differently. Hence, it becomes an extremely challenging task for the educators to be able to impact and influence the entire class and motivate them equally. As such, it becomes a task for the educators to identify the different motivating factors for the learners and to blend their teaching styles in such a manner, that suits the varied needs and requirements of the classroom. The aim of the research was to identify the teaching style preferred most by the students and the different factors motivating them to persevere to achieve their desired goals. The responses so collected with the help of the questionnaire, revealed that the respondents(students) showed a special inclination towards the ‘Coach-Style Teaching Method’, which points at the deviation from the traditional teaching styles and definitely hints at the changes in the modern education system fueled by technology, social media and changes in attitudes and preferences. The results of the paper will be specially suitable for teachers, lecturers, research scholars, psychologists, counselors and other members of the education-ecology interested in enhancing the outcome of the teaching-learning process.
