The article deals with the book by I. D. Batieva about the life and work of the prominent scientist-geologist and mineralogist I. V. Belkov (1917–1989), who headed the Geological Institute of the Kola Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1961–1985. The goal is to determine the information capabilities of a chronicle memoir and biographical work. It is a source on the history of geological research and scientific everyday life of the Soviet era and a resource for the anthropology of science and the anthropology of professions. Of particular value are descriptions of field life, official and informal communications in the academic environment, scientific and festive events, and the organization of family life of geologists. The authors conclude that the significance of this book goes beyond the interests of the regional academic corporation. Among other memoir sources, it serves the purposes of self-knowledge, self-identification, and presentation of the professional community. A feature of the source is its complex nature. The book includes many letters of I. V. Belkov. Thanks to this, the facts are presented and evaluated from different points of view, which creates an anthropological perspectiv

The COVID-19 epidemic forced most employers to transfer employees to a remote format, and after the restrictions were lifted, many companies retained this regime. Therefore, an urgent topic today is the discussion of the question of whether the hybrid or online format will remain as established forms of interaction between people. The purpose of the study is to identify the main problems in corporate governance that arose during the forced transfer of some of the personnel to a remote work format and to show the possibilities of their solution based on digital tools. Coordination of work in a team affects not so much the productivity of each employee as the formation of a general vision of the situation, the quality of setting and solving problems, the presence of informal communications and the stability of horizontal ties, and the support and adaptation of new team members. To substantiate the choice of a hybrid office, expert assessments and the method of analysing hierarchies have been applied. The article provides a list of tools that ensure the operation of a hybrid office, formulates their advantages and development prospects. The possibility of assessing the effectiveness of such decisions using the total cost of ownership methodology on the example of introducing a biometrics system in a bank has been shown.

Drawing empirical evidence from a telecommunications firm in Sri Lanka this paper reports on a case study of how strategic management accounting (SMA) tools form a package. We deployed the qualitative method and case study approach, and in-depth face-to-face interviews with key personnel engaged in the practice of SMA in the firm and reviewed documents to collect data. Our findings indicated that the firm used a bundle of SMA tools relating to competitors, customers, cost, and performance, essentially as a package. Findings further suggested that the use of SMA tools as a package gives rise to crucial implications in the form of interactions and contradictions, which were managed through reconciliation statements, analysis of variances, discussions, meetings, and informal communications. This research contributes to the management accounting literature by developing novel insights on the notion of 'SMA tools as a package'. From a theoretical stance, it offers a framework to explore SMA tools as a package, capitalising on prior literature and field data from the case study firm. It also provides learning points to practitioners regarding the simultaneous use of a collection of SMA tools as a 'package' to support organisational decision making. Keywords: strategic management accounting, package, case study

AbstractIn this paper, we discuss the importance for faculty to become familiar with the general guidelines for collecting, assembling and preparing a tenure and promotion (T&P) application or dossier at a Primarily Undergraduate Institution (PUI) and the critical role that mentoring plays throughout the T&P process. While key elements of the application process such as submission timelines and documentation guidelines are usually outlined in the faculty handbook of the specific institution, many aspects of assembling the dossier are not necessarily detailed in writing anywhere. Instead, there are important elements of the T&P process that typically rely on institutional knowledge and guidance that is often communicated informally. Junior faculty who have limited access to “informal communications” are at a significant disadvantage when they go through the T&P process even when they show accomplishments in teaching effectiveness, research, and service. The problem is especially important for women and underrepresented minority faculty in STEM disciplines that are less well represented among senior faculty in STEM. Senior faculty often serve as informal or formal mentors to their less seasoned colleagues. The goal of this article is to help demystify the T&P process by offering practical suggestions and describing some of the specific materials and steps that are an important part of documenting the development of a faculty member at a PUI.

Abstract Uncertainty is a main source of opportunistic behaviors in research and development cooperations, which challenges strategic decisions ranging from investments to operations. To avoid opportunism arising in cooperations, commitments (either formal contracts or informal communications) are generally made in advance by members of an alliance. However, how does a commitment encourage R&D investments and ultimately enhance the total performance, without loss of flexibility in ex post operations? This study attempts to answer this by investigating a bounded commitment in the context of vertical collaborations in a supply chain. In this exploratory study, a 3-stage game model is used (by backward induction) to examine a two-echelon supply chain under a bounded commitment in NPD. Our analysis shows that upstream R&D investment is stimulated more and that both members are better off under the bounded commitment. At the same time, when the relative bargaining power between the supplier and the manufacturer falls into an appropriate area, it is possible to reach a bounded commitment, and the manufacturer is more sensitive to this relationship. Finally, the bounded commitment restrains opportunistic behaviors, but there is no strong sign that an increase in the ratio of the order outside the chain to the inside one can make firms better.

The article analyzes the state of the mentoring system during personnel adaptation within the penitentiary system. Mentoring is a fundamental method of working with a mentee to introduce them into the activities of a closed occupational group. However, nowadays, mentoring in institutions of the penitentiary system is often of a formal nature. This does not allow institutions to use the full potential of mentoring to replenish a closed occupational group with high-quality human capital. A mentee should be introduced into professional relations not only at the formal, but also at the informal level, since informal communications play an important role when a closed occupational group accepts a new member. The purpose of the article is to identify the main features of mentoring, its functions that allow achieving personnel related, strategic and social results in functioning of the penal enforcement system. To achieve this goal, an expert survey was conducted with the senior officers of correctional institutions, which allowed identifying practical aspects of implementing personnel adaptation using the mentoring institute. The modern institution of mentoring is reflected in the functions of labor adaptation, which are implemented by a mentor through interaction with a mentee. The performance effectiveness of the functions of adaptation is determined not only by the achievement of high labor activity indicators by a new employee, but also by the construction of effective communications that should be arranged with colleagues, as well as with people in detention. The result of the study will be an understanding of the features of an effective mentoring system for a closed occupational group of the penitentiary system and possible ways to improve it.

High level of informality in the relationship between brand managers and advertising account representatives has been described as factor affecting positive work dynamic and long – term success. Although means of informal communications such as emails are still used, social networks have been gaining increasing popularity in the business landscape. This paper examines the effects of social media on client – agency relationships with focus on Facebook as an example of personal network. The methodology combines primary and secondary research. The paper reviews literature on client – agency relationships and social media, which provide the foundation for primary research. The paper concludes that connecting on Facebook with a client or agency representative is a way of showing the relationship has moved beyond strictly a working one. However, connecting with a work contact on Facebook should not be done in order to make the work relationship stronger. The study offers recommendations for practitioners and direction for future research.

This article is the first to consider the possibility of using corporate portals as one of the tools for creating an innovation ecosystem in technoparks. Application of modern “ecosystem approach” is substantiated by the author. The given approach allows considering technopark as an innovation ecosystem, in which close integration ties and cooperation between science, education institutions and business are being developed and which forms a favorable environment for creation, transfer and commercialization of knowledge. The author of the article proposes to establish a corporate portal for technoparks which will become a core of such an ecosystem. For this purpose, tasks to be accomplished by means of the technopark corporate portal were outlined. Further, methodological recommendations for the formation of the basic structure of technopark corporate portal were developed in accordance with the outlined tasks and based on technical capacities of modern portals. The basic structural components, according to the author, should become the social network, “news feed”, web-forum and calendar of events of the technopark. In the author’s opinion, the social network should become а key component of the technopark corporate portal, which will contribute to closer cooperation of people who work in various organizations within a technopark and the knowledge transfer between them. It was concluded that creation of technopark corporate portal will not only enable establishing and strengthening collaboration ties between science, education institutions and business, but will also enhance informal communications between those working in technopark including staff members of various organizations and entrepreneurs who are working on their own startup projects.
