Abstract The genus Pouteria has been studied because it presents various activities, among which is its anti-inflammatory potential. The effects of Pouteria ramiflora Carbopol gel on the healing of skin wounds in diabetic rats were evaluated by microscopic imaging. Streptozotocin was administered intraperitoneally in animals that had fasted for 12 hours, a situation confirmed by the glycemic index (˃ 240 mg dL-1). An excision on the back of the animals was performed and three groups were formed: Control (Gel), Ethanolic extract (Ext) and Gel + extract 2% (Ext+gel); the histopathological evaluation occurred on the 7th, 14th, 21st and 30th days after the post-operative period. The results of the phytochemical prospecting of P. ramiflora extract demonstrated the major presence of phenolic compounds and flavonoids; the assessment of the inflammatory infiltrate on the 7th day was higher on group Ext and Ext+gel when compared to group Control; on the 14th day control and Ext (p<0.05). The quantification of fibroblasts was higher on the 7th day among the three treatments, control and Ext (p<0.05), on the 21st day. Angiogenesis showed a higher number of vessels in Ext+gel group (p<0.05) on the 7th day; in Control, Ext and Ext+gel (p<0.05) on the 14th day; and Control and Ext (p<0.05)on the 21st day. The histopathological results showed that the formulation Ext+gel was efficient in tissue reparation and decrease in inflammatory cells on the diabetic’s animals.

Diabetes is a metabolic disease and plant derived products are used to combat this deadly disease. Plant is a diverse source of numerous therapeutic compounds which can be used to ameliorate diabetes. Leaves of Coccinia grandis (L.) (Family: Cucurbitaceae) is one of the leafy vegetable that is used for this purpose traditionally. It has been used against diabetes for a very long time. Our aims were to identify the hypoglycemic effect of extract of leaves of Coccinia grandis as well as to determine its safety profile so that we could use the plant material to improve the diabetic condition. Diabetes was induced in rats by intraperitoneal injection of alloxan at a dose of 150 mg/Kg bodyweight and ethanolic extract of leaves of Coccinia grandis was fed to the rats at a dose of 750 mg/kg. We measured blood glucose level, and safety profile by measuring SGOT, SGPT and creatinine level on diabetic and non-diabetic rats before and after administration of the extract. After measuring blood glucose level, it was found that the hypoglycemic efficacy was comparable to that of metformin (p> 0.05) which was given at a dose of 500 mg/kg. Safety profile were investigated by checking SGOT, SGPT and creatinine level. It was seen that both metformin and leaf extract of Coccinia grandis improved the pathological condition induced by diabetes. Furthermore, in healthy individual rats both metformin and leaf extract of Coccinia grandis did not significantly alter the normal physiological state. It might, therefore, be inferred that the extract of leaves of Coccinia grandis could be used as a good alternative therapy to treat diabetes.

 Objectives: The aim of the present research was to evaluate the antidiabetic, hyperlipidemic, and histopathological analysis in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats (60 mg/kg body weight) using the ethanolic extract of leaves of Boerhavia diffusa (ELBD) (500 mg/kg body weight).Method: The rats were orally administered with the leaf extract for 45 days. Fasting blood was collected at the end of the experimental period by cardiac puncture to carry out the biochemical parameters, the organs such as liver, kidney, and pancreas were also excised to perform the histopathological analysis by fixing in 10% formalin solution.Results: Oral administration with the leaf extract resulted in decrease in the levels of blood glucose, with a concomitant increase in their body weight. The extracts also produced a significant decrease in the lipid levels when compared with the diabetic groups. Moreover, the extracts also exerted a favorable effect on the histopathological changes of liver, pancreas, and kidney.Conclusion: The results of the present study revealed that the ELBD possess antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic properties. These effects may be due to the presence of bioactive components justifying its ethnomedical use.

ABSTRACT Objective: Adiponectin receptors (AdipoR) regulates metabolism and has anti-inflammatory and insulin-sensitizing effects. We aimed to determine the relationships between AdipoR with parameters of glucose homeostasis (FPG, insulin, and HOMA-IR), and insulin sensitivity (PPAR-γ and p38MAPK) in T2DM rats treated with puguntano (Curanga felterrae Lour.) leaf extract. Methods: T2DM was induced in Wistar rats aged 8–10 weeks and weighing 180–200 g by high-fat diet (HFD) feeding and low-dose streptozotocin (30mg/kg.bw) administration. The rats were then allocated randomly to a treatment group and a control group (n=24 each). The treatment group was orally administered puguntano leaf extract (200 mg/kg.bb) once daily for 10 days. Subsequently, FPG and plasma insulin were measured, and HOMA-IR was calculated. Results: There was significantly difference between treatment group and control group on AdipoR and parameter of glucose homeostasis (FPG, Insulin, HOMA-IR) and insulin sensitivity (PPAR-γ,  p38MAPK (all, p<0.01). In both groups, there were no significantly correlations between of AdipoR with all parameter of glucose homeostasis and insulin sensitivity except PPAR-ϒ (p <0.003) across the entire cohort of rats. Conclusion: Our data suggest that puguntano could improve glucose homeostasis, insulin sensitivity and molecular mediators of insulin sensitivity. There were no significantly correlated between improvement of AdipoR with glucose homeostasis and molecular mediators of insulin sensitivity in T2DM.

Background: Glycolytic enzymes (Hexokinase and α-glucosidase) and gluconeogenic enzymes (Glucose-6-phosphatase and fructose-1,6-disphosphatase) control carbohydrate metabolism and hence glucose hemostasis, an important approach for the control of diabetes. The present study was carried out to evaluate the effect of hydro-ethanolic leaf extract of Costus afer on these enzymes. Materials and methods: Streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats were administered hydro-ethanolic leaf extract of Costus afer (250, 500 and 1000 mg/kg body weight) orally for 8 weeks. Effect of the extract was monitored on the decrease in glycemia and the modulatory activities on glycolytic and gluconeogenic enzymes activities. The pancreas was also immunohistochemically examined for regeneration of the Islet cells. Results: Hydro-ethanolic extract significantly decreased the blood glucose concentration, serum glucose-6-phosphatase and fructose-1,6-disphosphatase activities which were associated with an increase in the activity of hexokinase in the liver and kidney. immunohistochemical examination of the pancreas, revealed the preservation and regeneration of the islet of the Langerhans cells.  Conclusion: Thus, C. afer acts against hyperglycemia modulating the activities of glucose-6-phosphatase, fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase and hexokinase, and regeneration of β-cells.

Background: The leaves of Thaumatococcus danielli (Benth.) have been traditionally used in folk medicine to treat malaria in Nigeria. However, there is no report on whether these leaves contain Nephroprotective activity. Thus, the ethanol leaf extract was investigated for Nephron-protective activity in Streptozotocin induced diabetic rats.Methods: First, the LD50 of the leaf was determined using standard procedure. Rats were assigned to 5 groups (A-E) of five rats. Except for the control group, each group was made diabetic using Streptozotocin (65 mg/kg/b.wt. i p). The treated groups received 0.5 ml of glibenclamide (25mg/kg/b.wt, o.p), 250 and 500 mg/kg/b.wt, o.p of Thaumatococcus danielli respectively. After 14 days of treatment, animals were sacrificed under light anaesthesia. Data were expressed as Means ± S.D (n=5) and were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Dunnet’s test, values were considered significant at p<0.05. Results: The plant showed a LD50 greater than 5000 mg/kg/b.wt in albino rats observed for 72 hours. A significant (p<0.05) decreased in serum Na+, Cl-, HCO-3, total protein, and an insignificant increase in K+, urea and creatinine level were observed in the diabetic group when compared with the normal group. Oral administration of plant extract and glibenclamide significantly (p<0.05) restored the electrolytes to near normal. Histological alterations such as glomerulonephritis, and tubules infiltration by inflammatory cells observed in diabetic control were also reversed.Conclusion: This study suggests renal protective ability of the plant against impairment due to hyperglycemia.Keywords: Streptozotocin, Thaumatococcus danielli, Nephroprotective, Glibenclamide, serum electrolytes.

Aegle marmelos is widely found in india. The leaves, roots, fruits, bark, and seeds are extensively used in Ayurveda. . A. marmelos is mainly used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Alloxan (150 mg/kg b.w) was used in the Wistar rats for making the diabetic model. The oral administration of leaf extract of Aegle marmelos ( 200 and 400 mg/ kg b.w) was given for four weeks. The effect of ethanolic leaf extract of Aegle marmelos leaf extract on serum blood glucose as well as kidney function test [urea, uric acid, albumin, protein, and creatinine] were measured in the alloxan-induced diabetic rats. In the acute toxicity study, the ethanolic leaf extract of Aegle marmelos leaf was non-toxic at 2000 mg/kg in rats. The level of albumin and protein had significantly increased along with the serum glucose and urea, uric acid levels when they were observed and reduced in diabetic rats treated with both doses of ethanol leaf extract of Aegle marmelos as compared to diabetic group. Histopathological studies were revealed toward normal. Ethanolic extract of Aegle marmelos leaf possesses the significant anti-diabetic and rejuvenating capability of kidney function tests.

Herbal therapy and herbal medicine in traditional medicine as well as in alternative medicine practiced in the developed world. There is recent most of the harbal formulation are used to cure & improve the humal life. The present study Wound healing activity of Calotropis procera root bark on diabetic rats in that root bark is extracted from ethanolic extract using soxhlet method. The pharmacognostic study was done after that phytochemical characters should be studied. The root bark has alkaloids, Flavonoids, steroids and tannins active constituents.  Acute toxicity study carried out with three pharmacological models Incision model, Excision model, and Dead space model. All the extract show predominant activity against selected species. Extract shows beneficial effect on diabetic wound it heals in time with standard component. Background: Ficus glomerata (F. glomerata) Linn. Family Moraceace is a large tree found all over India including outer Himalayan ranges, Punjab, Chota Nagpur, Bihar, Orissa, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Deccan and also as a common plant in South India. It is planted around the home and temples. It is cultivated throughout the year, distributed in evergreen forests and moist localities. Objective: The Ethanolic Extract of roots of F. Glomerata (EEFG) belonging to the family Moraceace, was investigated for its antidiabetic activity using alloxan induced diabetic rats. Methods: Thirty rats were divided into 5 groups having 6 rats in each group. The alloxan was administered to the rats of all groups except normal control group through intraperitoneal route at a concentration of 140mg/kg body weight. A dose of 100mg/kg and 200 mg/kg body weight of EEFG was administered to alloxan induced diabetic rats. The administration of the extract was lasted for 11 days. Effectiveness of the extract on glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, and high density lipoprotein and protein concentrations was analyzed. Results: Significant (p<0.05) reduction in the levels of glucose, cholesterol, triglyceride of the diabetic rats was observed after treatment with ethanolic extract. After subjecting to oral glucose tolerance test EEFG also showed significant improvement in glucose tolerance. Conclusion: F. glomerata root ethanolic extract showed that it possesses antidiabetic effect and can be found useful for the management of diabetes mellitus.
